Ethanol reminds me of something I saw on an old TV show. This loony scientist came up with a formula for creating gold bars. Some bad guys kidnapped and made him show them his formula. When he said that it involved a bar of platinum they lost interest.
10%, 130 million acres of America's farmland can produce 40 billion gallons of ethanol. Produce as a by product, 15 million tons of DDGS, enough protein and fat concentrate to raise 10 million tons of fish, enough for 4 ounces a day, 6 days a week, feeding 3 billion people for a year their protein.
Double the land to 260 million acres in corn, fodder beets and Sorghum and we feed everyone on earth their protein and replace all imported oil outside America.
I wish people would base their opinions on facts, not what they have been told. Ethanol is a much cleaner fuel that can be made from many different crops. There are at least 25 crops that yield more ethanol per acre than corn. Ethanol was around before gasoline, is cleaner, is renewable and cheaper to produce. Which is better - Jobs for Americans or sending $500 billion out of the country every year? P.S. - The US government currently pays farmers to NOT grow crops on 40 million acres.
...not to mention that it takes massive amounts of gas-powered vehicles and equipment to plant, cultivate, harvest, and ultimately distribute it. By the end-user, the cost in terms of resource depletion, pollution, and money does not make it efficient enough to validate it's production. This is not even taking into account that many components of the equipment necessary to raise and convert the crops require some form of petroleum. Ethanol is a dead end.
Ok people lets do a little experiment. A car or truck engine can run on 100% ethanol . Now when we park the car in the garage and start up the motor running on gasoline, shut the garage door and see how long you can last in there. Now run the car on ethanol, you will last a hell of a lot longer with the alcohol! Now figure out what all the millions of cars in the world are doing to the air! Not Global warming, Global AIR POSION. GAS is POISON!
I think you might want to take a look at some facts, maybe brush up on actual knowledge. The reason corn prices have been so ungodly low from about 1980 to 2006, the government actually pays farmers not to grow corn on some of their acres because an even bigger surplus would tank prices and the market ripples would be felt by the entire country. Maybe I can simplify that for you: We have enough corn for both Food and Fuel.
all these different companies like it also farmers they like it to but animal meat is made with corn so meat prices will go up and so will corn prices i thinks its stupid as shit
I think its safe to say we have already sunk the raft with our overpopulation bs. Now we are gonna be mad at farmers for finally getting what they should for their crops. I think it is dumb to put food in the tank but at least high food prices could hopefully cap some pop. I think its toooo late though. instead of a few living good we have sexed it up and sunk the ship for everyone.
Great comments here, keep them coming. This exactly the kind of discourse we hope to spark with our video productions. This really makes us satisfied. Cheers, Ethan
Ethenol - Corn is still affordable. Gas has gone way up, which has raised prises across the board. There are many alternatives to corn feed, which only a few farmers may use. But, this is a boon for farmers, and a big plus to wean the US from foreign OIL.
Big oil and OPEC failed to keep up the price of corn futures. Corn is now down just below $5 at which price Ethanol is profitable at $2.99 a gallon retail.
LOL...That was funny...you make it seem like Big Oil and OPEC are SOOO evil. What about those cartels using subsidies to fund their swindle? AMD ring a bell. It cost the nation 8 dollars/gallon. Also the guy at the top neglected to mention that corn consumes 29 percent more fossil fuel than they give back on burning...Doesn't that make up for the supposed "cleaner than gas" statement?...what your talking about is impossible and stupid. If it cost too much to make it then its worthless.
well if we use corn, what happens when we get a bad season? Then What? Or what if terrorists decide to poison our crops? Then What?... i agree with most of what he said about how people are not looking at the negatives to corn, and are quick to jump for the new idea...well it's not new, but you get my point.
Get the facts and stop spreading misinformation. The U.S. produced the largest crop in history and had record exports, maintained feed and food demand and supplied the ethanol market and the U.S. still increased the surplus in the U.S. Take ethanol out of the fuel supply...gas prices increase another 15%. Box of cornflakes...has 6 cents of corn in it...it is not corn being diverted to fuel. U.S. wheat acres have been increased the last three years. High prices are because of OIL!
Who payed this pillow bighter off? Jim Inhofe?

Process 1: Grown corn, farm corn, feed corn to cattle.
Process 2: Grown corn, farm corn, make ethanol with corn, feed WDG's to cattle.
There is no loss of food!! And extremely little energy to process and distill. In fact 1 company uses the heat from cow manure to distill the ethanol.
