I love this video so much, that's my father and my godfather there. So glad that people still love their music. Although I would like to point out that my father did not quit the band, he was asked to leave.
Thanks for posting this very informative video. Marmalade remain one of the most underated bands of all time, possibly due to their early "poppy" image and considerable bad tabloid press. I remember sharing a booking with them around 1980, certainly Newman and Knight were with them then but I can't recall who else. "Reflections" must surely rate as one of the all time great songs.
I never heard of this band (and so many others) as I was born on the heels of the 60s, but to have discovered them in this most unlikely a manner, meaning, the invention of the Internet, they have instantly become my favorite. USA
Amazing, he still sounds just like he did then, same melodic voice, a very rare thing. Most singers, after a few years, sound rather disappointing. This guy has not lost his great delivery and melody one bit. Great!
Something has puzzled me for decades and that was the night Marmalade played The Sundown in Charing Cross Road around 1976...They didn't play a single one of their hit records. They made a god-awful noise for an hour and just buggered off. What was that all about ?
@safeway56 I suspect your experience was prior to 1976!!
'Sounds like this was the Dean Ford "heavy" Marmalade period, which was around '73/4 - he fronted a line-up refusing to play the old favs which was the kiss of death.
The original band had busted by the end of '71 -so, various replacements/couple of further hits, then total rethink by '73/4.
Then the "Butlins" Marmalade started, new line-up, 1 hit, then palookaville!!
Made a career out of it for 35 yrs+ since - but time is up
The original band was incredible the sound was different.... THe new band did not improve, it was different... two different planes of musical aesthetic

Judging by what he's saying on here this group were just a bunch of puppet yes-men who did what they were told.

The original singer and band only lasted 6 or 7 years, this Marmalade lasted 35 years and have actually improved during that time.
