  • Nice job! I have had three sets of twins raised in my covered atrium. I stand on a 7 foot ladder with my head in a box holding the camera and blankets pinned to the box that I hide under. See my videos on you tube, my latest is mom feeding and the babies trying their wings and massive preening. startechnow on you tube.

  • 2:52 not bad

great filming-it's like watching a nature show...

  • At my house, we have a new hummingbird nest. She built it over Spring Break.

  • Fantastic stuff

  • the birds are sickeningly beautiful!!! amazing!! how did u do this???

and the rats are cute in their own way, too.... it's just the "25th cadre" idea that doesn't quite appeal to everybody.... but they are nice.

  • @lisita55

About an hour every other day with 2 cameras (one zoomed in, one wide) What's "25th cadre" ?

  • Very nice. She looks like a good Mother.

  • Wonderful video!

If you can see, go to my channel and watch the footage called "Beija-flor na Antena" ("Hummingbird on Antenna" in English), divided into 18 parts, recorded for about a month. You'll know the hummingbirds also can make nest on a TV antenna!

  • I love their silly tongues.

  • their sooooooooooooooo cute when there babies... there so chunky and cute. I cant get over it :j

  • Damn, those birds be deep throating!

  • Thanks for the video. a bit baffled with the randome art lol

  • I have a lot of shit which has accumulated at the bottom my cuckoo clock, has anyone got any ideas on how to house train this young cuckoo, my wife just Say's stop feeding the dam thing, but I think this his very cruel.

  • love the hummingbird video..... without the artwork clips

  • thank you so much for posting, just amazing to watch. what state is this from?

  • 2:13 = Yucky

  • omg I also have humming birds in my back yard the mommy have too lilttle humming birds they look so adorable!!

  • SubhanAllah

  • No mistakes at all! Of course I meant to say "bronze mice," freudian slip of the fingers! LOL. Thanks for the videos, they are very well done!

  • whats with the oddly placed Steve Worthington Art? beautiful humming birds mixed with dead rats? lol... Love the documentary, still scratching my head about the ads. ;o)

  • Long live the dead rats!

Actually, they're bronze mice which I sculpted, not dead rats!

I kind of put 'em in for a bit of a giggle (a bit of crass method of self promotion), although I realize their presence doesn't appeal to everyone!

But hey, I made the video, and the mice so I get to make my own mistakes!

  • hey how old are them...

  • cool

  • did it shoot out poo at 0:45 grosss ew but its nature

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing. Did it take all summer to get the video?

  • Delighful! Very well pieced together, too. It must have been fun watching. 'Glad you caught the moment of departure!

Did you have a handy 2nd-floor window, or did you need a ladder or something to get this great view?

  • We had a few feet of wooden platform outside our patio doors about 2 feet off the ground, on which I put my tripod at maxed out hight.

It was fun watching them, and I was really lucky to get the pair leaving I must admit!

  • I amazed by the strength of that little nest! these birds sure know how to design nests!

  • Mind boggling really...

  • What kind of tree is this? Beautiful, thanks for posting.

  • Princess tree.

    Glad you liked it!

  • that is one heckuva neat video, thanks for posting this

  • wonderful bird video thanks for sharing

  • wow, gotta say, nature owns, i seen every part they went though, he left the nest and the other guy followed, fucking best movie ive seen in a long time thanks

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing.

  • HAHAHA at 2:12

  • Nice vid, lol at 0:50

  • Awesome video. wow, amazing. thank You for sharing.

  • Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Congrats on your footage, this should be on the National Geo channel. Killer vid. (my videos of hummingbirds look like crap next to that!)

Super cool! 5 hundred stars is my rate!

  • BIRD + FLY = Hummingbird... True.. no joke. :)

  • Wonderful video you've got there!

Really have to thank you for bringing such videos for everyone to see =)

    thank you !!

  • You made a GREAT vidio, however, I kept seeing a dead rat!!! I am 50 years old and thought I was seeing things, I had to back that tape alot to see the rat was really there!! I thought I was the only one taking pics of dead mice and rats....lol.

  • So beautiful.Seeing a hummingird always brings a smile to my face.

  • You have some beautiful footage here! I love it. I have had hummingbirds for the past several weeks...month maybe? I have been getting film of thme too. I really love yours though. Beautiful and I like that music too.

  • i love humming birds. they have such a little nest.

  • First, wonderful video, content and audio.

You've probably seen his bronze blips, now you should see his web site, they are really wonderful. Check it out.

  • Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Music is a perfect match, too! Just delightful! :>)

What kind of camera are you using?

  • Thanks for the comment!

2 sony's. TRV 900, and a TRV 9 (one zoomed in, one a bit wider, about for an hour a day while they were growing up).

  • Great shots! I wish i had some hummingbird nests in my yard( i actually might i just don't know where they are) I have some feeders up and i think humming birds are just the best! I love watching them. Poor mom the babies look bigger than her buy the end and she just keeps feeding and feeding. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks.

I only noticed because one kept hovering around the same bit of bush outside my window.

I'd never have found it otherwise, and even when I knew where it was it was still hard to find.

Hope you find one, lately I've been watching some long eared owls grow up near our house.

    No video though.

  • The video was great, a bit odd the "pop ins" but I say "to each his own" :) I have a few hummingbird videos too but have yet to find a nest anywhere, you truly are lucky!

  • Aha! Finally someone who isn't hauling me over hot coals for showing off one area of my creativity, within another area of my creativity.

    Thanks!

  • SS-I spent a some time looking at your vids yesterday, trying to understand the reason you would adulterate an otherwise PBS-Nature quality video. I can see you enjoy the bizzare. Come on, remake it without, and see how many views you would gain on the new one. I watched Sprightly the Magical Mouse, which was really cute because there were no blipverts of hummingbirds! I only found your vids because MyWildlifeVideos had favorited your hummingbird video.

  • Thanks for your comment, but I'll put my blipverts down to experience and leave them alone.

I certainly learned something by trying them (like don't try them again!). I get lots of grief for them.

And I'm glad you enjoyed my other efforts.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  • Love the video, except for the interuptions. I cannot tell what the stills are. I gather you're trying to sell something, but I cannot really see what it is (thankfully, I wouldn't visit the site as it's annoying). If you'd remake the video without the interuptions that would be a 5 star. Otherwise it's a 3.

  • Lovely video except for the attempts at subliminal messages. I watched with my three yr old son and it was a scary for him. Maybe think about it that way. Otherwise, a great video.

As a consumer, I would not buy your art since it was delivered this way- it really interrupts the flow of the lovely birds.

  • Mmm. I never envisioned spooking 3 yr olds.

I stuck 'em in more as a bit of joke to be honest (they aren't quick enough to be truly subliminal), since I intended for them to be more obvious so folks would notice them and maybe have a chuckle.

Thanks for the feedback, maybe check out my blog. There's some interesting stuff there you might enjoy looking at (you can feel good to know that there are no spooky hypnotic messages to buy anything too).

    Thanks again,

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  • Thanks for listening. Do you have a version of this video without the lovely little creatures? Thanks again. loraine

  • Sadly not, and if I changed it and re-posted it I'd lose all my views (silly reason, but I'm kind of pleased so many people have looked at it).

I did make a kids story featuring Sprightly mouse which seems quite popular with very young children, and there's no unexpected surprises in that video (or any others come to think of it).

I'm off for my dawn walk down the dried up river bed now; see if I can spot an owl who's been hanging out there for a while.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  • I am truly fascinated with this video. I love hummers and sent this to all my children in time for Mother day. I have 2 hummingbird feeders here in Mississippi and we have had hummers since 3-16-08. Thanks you so much for this awesome video.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.

I haven't seen any here in Santa Fe yet (but others have), but I have noticed hummingbird hawk moths laying eggs on plants in the garden.

  • Beautiful hummingbird video. One of the best I've ever seen. The inserted ads were crass and distasteful. Too bad you have so little common sense. One ad at the end would have done so much more. This is a case of less is more. You took something so beautiful and added a little bit of ugly.

  • Hey, at least I made something beautiful first, so I could uglify it up a bit.

You know a lot of youtubers simply record snippets from the tv and post them. Not very creative in my view.

It's good to mess things up a bit, if my creations were too good I might start to think I'm some kind of smarty pants or something.

Anyway, thanks for the beautiful comment, although I'm sad you added the ugly bit at the end.

  • REALLY liked the video. Amazing that you could get so close up. I'm tring to start my own nesting. What type of shrub or tree is this?

    Thanks

  • My wife tells me it's a purple princess tree.

In answer to the next comment, the thing at 00:50 is a baby hummer projectile pooping over the edge of the nest. Sorry, I hit 'remove' instead of 'reply'. My mistake.

  • Totally enjoyed this video! I am anxiously awaiting the return of mine. Although we have lots and lots of hummers, I've yet to see a nest! Thanks!

  • Uhmm... That was brutal in the biggening with the female/male bird shoving its beak down the baby's throaht, But hey its nature :)

  • This by far is the most awesome hummer video I have ever seen. Thank you sooooo much for all your hard work on this video. I am going to embed this site to my web site. Though my site is about bluebirds, my favorite bird is the hummingbird. Thanks again for a wonderful experience.

  • Thanks! I see some very blue birds when I'm out walking (here in Santa Fe, NM), but I don't know if they are actual 'bluebirds' or some other kind of bird that has a blue sheen.

  • Thank you, that was great....shine on...!

  • Thank you for this exquisite video about hummingbirds. Five stars!

  • Most wonderful, enchanting hummingbird footage...sadly you greatly devalued it by flashing your ads into it. I really can not understand why you would so harm your own work of art! What a great pity! I think as ad a seperate vido promoting your toys would be more effective.

  • Thanks for the feedback.

It's interesting that what I call art you call toys, and what I documented as a bit of fun you call art.

Well so long as you like something I put my energies into is good enough for me.

Maybe someone somewhere will like my video and my art!

Creating art is not nearly as tricky as getting it out there and seen by people.

Actually I made a kids story called Sprightly the Magical Mouse starring one of my solid bronze art toys.

Thanks again, I appreciate your feedback.

  • Thy probably should just be presented separately...

  • I read somewhere that Google plans soon to sell animated banner ads across the bottoms of people's video's 10 or 15 seconds in, for about as long again. You know like how tv networks advertise the next show during the current one.

Well, if my movies are going to be invaded by ads, I'd rather they were my ads for my work.

And if it was a seperate video, no one watching my hummingbird movie would by chance get to see my sculptures.

Unless you mean just add it all at the end instead of during.

    Bye

  • sprichbee's reaction is not that uncommon, people tend to look at things as art or commerce, the trick is changing that perception so they don't feel used. Drop me an email sometimes if you want to talk about ways of getting your art out there more.

    Chase

ps. great video, i didnt like the subliminal ads either, lol

  • It's a very beautiful video, sad thing the advertising in it :( By the way I'm totally not entering that web, creepy the way the images keep entering between the hummingbirds.

  • I respectfully submit for your entertainment pleasure (especially if you have any young kids) Sprightly the magical mouse here on YouTube.

It's a story I wrote and features one of my bronze mice, so no need to strangely squeeze additional imagery in there to shamelessly put my creative handiwork out there!

    Hope you enjoy it.

And it isn't even slightly creepy!

  • oh no! I'm not saying your art is creepy, but the way the images appear in the video are. It scare me the first time I saw it!! (maybe too subliminal for me).

I think you should sign with your web at the "About this video" space, instead of putting the ads in the video.

I totally enjoy the hummingbirds, thanks for the beautiful images.

  • This is beautiful. Thanks for posting this of a hummingbird nest/babies that few people would be able to see and enjoy. What plant is the nest in and what other plants are around to attract hummingbirds?

  • Hello,

My wife tells me it was a princess tree (bush?).

Not sure what flowers they particularly liked, but here in NM they really like Penstamins.

  • We get hundreds of hummers but we never get to experience this. Fantastic!

  • Just lovely and thank you for the link to it.

I forwarded it to all my hummingbird fans

  • I like the video but the pictures with the webaddress inbetween are quite annoying (like at 7:18 as one example). Is it supposed to be a trick or something? (Sorry, don't know the right english word)

  • Awesome video - great job!

  • Very nice, and the music fits right in perfectly. Thank you!

  • I absolutely love it.

  • Very nice!!

  • Nice vid...^_^

  • hahaha, yes, I wonder if that's the case with the Cuckoo. Those birds lay their eggs in different nests of other birds to have them raised by foster parents. Then, since they are much bigger, those little offspring don't have a chance of surviving and the cuckoo is the sole adopted one able to survive.

Maybe the cuckoo's nest stinks hehe.

  • In which case it should be called a 'Poo Poo'.

  • Seeing into the world of a Ruby throated hummingbird. Ok, not to be gross but isn't it amazing that instinct tells even the babies of birds to shoot poop away from the nest? I mean, that's pretty amazing.

I didn't know that hummingbirds had such long tongues.

  • My wife thought it was a Ruby throated hummer, but Ross Hawkins, founder and executive director of the hummingbird society tells me it is an Anna's Hummingbird. But they all look kind of similar to me.

It's just as well they don't poop in their own house, it's not very big after all and they have a lot of growing up to do. I wonder if there was ever a less successful strain of them that did. Probably have a hard time attracting a mate with all that accumulated aroma since childhood.

  • Great video. We have a lot of hummingbird around our house but I have never seen a nest. So thanks for posting this!

  • Fantastic video, first time I have ever seen nest activity of hummers. Thank you for taping and posting.

  • Excellent film. Excellent Bilp-vert. Excellent sculptures.

  • aww!! the little babys sticking their tongues out lol!

we once had robins have a next outside our window and got to watch them grow up

  • Totally amazing video!! What a wonderful thing to be able to access a nest like that! I have to admit thinking that the first few mice were chocolate rats (?), and I never could catch one with the pause button -- my reflexes ain't what they used to be :-(. Lots of talent here, that's for sure! More, more!

  • just push play pause real fast.

  • ...beautiful glimpse into a secret world...

  • I'm not sure about the ethics of subliminal advertising though :o)

  • Yes, I slipped in few images of my sculptures for you to try and catch with your pause button.

More for a bit of a joke than anything.

Mind you, if you'd like to buy a nice bronze mouse...

  • WOW!

Truly beautiful and very professionally produced video. I only wish I had hummingbirds in my garden, but I can console myself in the knowledge that there is a lot more meat on pigeons (they taste great in a red wine sauce). :o)

I normally remove video responses that aren't in keeping with the one you're responding to, but this is far too good to remove.

    Awesome.

  • Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. What is the background music? Vivaldi?

  • Mozart. Flute quartet in C.

  • Wow! What beautiful little creatures hummingbirds are!

And I just spent far too long 'catching' mice and frogs with the pause button! A wonderful video, and a video game as well! Well done.

  • Wow-Awesome nature at its best! The epilogue involving the cat was just too painful right? I don't know why but watching them birds hum like that made me think of mice...

  • It's a toad at the end (not a cat), but the subliminal mouse thing? Why that's a mystery to me...!!!
