I am going to give this a shot and if its nothing super great as far as story goes, then I'll probably not spend tons of money as I have with WoW subscriptions.
I would like to see some better actual game play, yet it does seem like WoW mechanics, Story is what they are going for.

im guessing to cover you use a skill? I heard this game has no auto attack. It's all skill based and by the way the pacing looks in combat, i'd say that was a smart idea. Looks really strategic to me

ok so we all know that galaxies was killed when they decided jedi was playable right from the start and no longer had to be earned. at that expansion i saw my server die and anything good said about the game just seemed to stop. before i play this is jedi open from the beggining or is it something exciting to work for like it should be? god i hope they didnt ignore all the criticism that killed galaxies.
@abstractpurpose if you choose to be a jedi (knight or consular) you start off as a trainee and you have to do some quests before you reach jedi status

Bioware has created some of the most memorable rpg storylines ever. However, I'm tired of their zone and level design. I will not be fooled again. I want an open world,.. i don't wnat an open zone. Bioware = Linear. Thats just the way it is. If hte focused half as much energy on branching Terrain paths, instead of story paths, it might be worth it. But as it stands now, I will never get this, its Linear, and thats not how an Sci-Fi space game should EVER end up as.. Linear.. assholes.

You know, I was going to buy this game until I heard that its only going to be available through EA's online retailer, which means even if you buy the game on disk you need to install their game service to play it. So, I cannot use my Steam account to play this game, even if Steam is a better service by FAR and actually gives you deals and proper security, because Valve GETS IT?!? Sorry, not going to be paying 60 dollars then 5-15 per month to be under thumb by EA, its not worth it.
Thats not what im saying. What im trying to say is, I don't want to be under thumb by EA to HAVE to use they download service, because its absolute shit! Now, Steam is a good download service. Granted there are others, but having to log onto another one JUST to play this game is not worth it for me. Cutting out retailers is a very bad move on EA's part, because after hearing some of the horror stories about Origin, I honestly would have a hard time putting my money and info on there.
Not every game can be connected to Steam, have you ever played any online RPG? WoW? SWG? AoC? They all require a separate log in and all are required for use. I have orgin, it's practically a steam rip off. It's not the greatest, but hey I can download games from it. It doesn't have a huge community like steam, but it still runs games. That's all I really care about when I can easily add people THROUGH the games themselves.

I agree. DVDs are better, but the world of PC gaming has moved to cloud gaming. I have trust in Steam, because it has been around quite some time and they seem to know what they are doing. Granted, if Valve ever does go bankrupt it could be bad, but I don't think Valve has ever had financial trouble ever.
@m1up At one time Steam was a horror service aswell. Very slow and laggy and other stuff. And you download patches through the game itself so I´m not sure if you need to login aswell. Might be something like D2D or Impulse.

I doubt that, almost every PC game these days in box copy requires you to install some sort of download service. Besides, im disappointed with EA. They dont care about the dedicated fans who have bought the games from them for years before and only care about the casual/new crowd. So, since the old fans are not generating quite as many profits as casual fans, they throw them out the back door. Not to mention Lucasarts, not even going to START myself on them.
Looks interesting. But pay-to-play MMO's like World of Warcraft, and such, are pretty much outdated. If you think ''If I pay every month to play this game, it must be better than other games'' but that's what the companies want you to think, but it's actually pretty wrong.
However, i'm not the one to judge, if you want to pay every month, it's all up to you, but in my opinion, it's outdated to do so.
@Khazro It's more that said games could not exist without the subscription. The strain on servers that MMO's have is simply far too large to run free of charge. It has little to do with the quality of the game but everything to do with the type of game.
@percival132 ALL MMO's that are free to play are either very low in graphical input aswell as a small amount of alogrothim calculations, or they are not technically MMO's. Guild wars for example had instanced world play, not technically an MMO.

The battle system is kinda..eh disappointing. I was expecting more than click a skill, wait for cool-down, then click another skill, rinse and repeat.

You know, I was going to buy this game until I heard that its only going to be available through EA's online retailer, which means even if you buy the game on disk you need to install their game service to play it. So, I cannot use my Steam account to play this game, even if Steam is a better service by FAR and actually gives you deals and proper security, because Valve GETS IT?!? Sorry, not going to be paying 60 dollars then 5-15 per month to be under thumb by EA, its not worth it.

Thats not what im saying. What im trying to say is, I don't want to be under thumb by EA to HAVE to use they download service, because its absolute shit! Now, Steam is a good download service. Granted there are others, but having to log onto another one JUST to play this game is not worth it for me. Cutting out retailers is a very bad move on EA's part, because after hearing some of the horror stories about Origin, I honestly would have a hard time putting my money and info on there.

Okay, take this into thought.
Not every game can be connected to Steam, have you ever played any online RPG? WoW? SWG? AoC? They all require a separate log in and all are required for use. I have orgin, it's practically a steam rip off. It's not the greatest, but hey I can download games from it. It doesn't have a huge community like steam, but it still runs games. That's all I really care about when I can easily add people THROUGH the games themselves.

I agree. DVDs are better, but the world of PC gaming has moved to cloud gaming. I have trust in Steam, because it has been around quite some time and they seem to know what they are doing. Granted, if Valve ever does go bankrupt it could be bad, but I don't think Valve has ever had financial trouble ever.

@m1up At one time Steam was a horror service aswell. Very slow and laggy and other stuff. And you download patches through the game itself so I´m not sure if you need to login aswell. Might be something like D2D or Impulse.

I doubt that, almost every PC game these days in box copy requires you to install some sort of download service. Besides, im disappointed with EA. They dont care about the dedicated fans who have bought the games from them for years before and only care about the casual/new crowd. So, since the old fans are not generating quite as many profits as casual fans, they throw them out the back door. Not to mention Lucasarts, not even going to START myself on them.

Looks interesting. But pay-to-play MMO's like World of Warcraft, and such, are pretty much outdated. If you think ''If I pay every month to play this game, it must be better than other games'' but that's what the companies want you to think, but it's actually pretty wrong.
However, i'm not the one to judge, if you want to pay every month, it's all up to you, but in my opinion, it's outdated to do so.

@Khazro It's more that said games could not exist without the subscription. The strain on servers that MMO's have is simply far too large to run free of charge. It has little to do with the quality of the game but everything to do with the type of game.

@percival132 ALL MMO's that are free to play are either very low in graphical input aswell as a small amount of alogrothim calculations, or they are not technically MMO's. Guild wars for example had instanced world play, not technically an MMO.

@sichisch also i never played Aion or Conan beacuse thier gameplay was still far too similar to WoW which in turn pretty much got it's gamepley from Diablo, please by all means enjoy the game but i cannot believe that anybody thinks that the lightsaber combat could not have been any better in the slightest. not all mmorpg's need to have their roots in the action rpg genre. thank you for your time.

@sichisch i was just stating my opinion and lamenting the lack of gameplay variety in current mmorpg's. there was no call for name calling but we can certainly do that if you'd like.
yes WoW gameplay works perfectly but i also find it intensely boring. i played for a week and at the end found myself daydreaming when i suddenly had an epiphany, i was really, REALLY bored.
also just so i get this straight u'd prefer the gameplay shown in the game to what was shown in the cinematic trailer/intro?

why do all mmo's follow the same tired old WoW formula. why not inovate a little. maybe i dont know, try something else that doesn't involve pressing buttons 1 through 0 repeatedly. this could have had the potential to have the most epic lightsaber duels of any starwars game to date but they chose to rehash the gameplay from WoW. i was hoping that the game might resemble the beautiful cinematic trailers.. :(

With all the positive talk I've heard from this, I was expecting better. Just a same old MMO... though I'd love to mess with Blade & Soul. It's probably the most innovative in terms of game play for MMOs lol.
