What questions me is, is this game truly 3D? On the Arcade and Genesis versions, yes, it does look like it, but here, everything looks like 2D rendered sprites. Does anyone know if this is true 3D like the others?
@JasonLee215 Makes you look stupid because you made no sense with whatever you just tried to say. Just because the c64 version if of course lamer than the Genesis one (damn it what do you expect considering the hardware differences) does not mean the Genesis is good....is this really so hard to understand...seriously, what is your IQ Jesus.
@JasonLee215 If you really need a reason then you are the one retarded and have never played it. I bought it back in the day so I can speak from experience
class review! i owned this game back in the day and i too found it impossible to drive in a straight line! i feel like putting midway arcade treasures to play this game
hey Paul, I've been wondering...get ahold of cruis'n velocity (just the ROM) and a GBA emulator and do us up a review of that game...well, it'd be good, I says.
That game sucks indeed, anyway it was very funny too watch your review.. :) Can you review Antiriad for the C64 as well? I post allready a longplay, but I like your way of reviewing.
this was one of those games that was so awesome in the arcade that it just looked so sh*te on every home format! bit like paperboy and operation wolf - it just didnt work outside of the amusement arcade
yeah ive played on the megadrive (genesis usa*) version and its about 100 times better than this - do yourself a favour, never play this version on the c64 lol
loved Hard Drivin in the arcades, hitting the cow, doing the loop, crazy crashes etc.
I saw Wheels of Fire in Makro ,I was dazzled by the screenshots, they looked exactly like the arcade, so we bought it.
I put the tape into my C64 and I was wowed by the intro screen, suddenly that wow vanished, monochrome graphics, horrible sound, NO COW!!, so gutted, crying for weeks, I was only 7 by the way.
felt like I got my revenge after watching this video.
unbelievably the first time i saw hard drivin' on the c64 was identical to yours - my parents bought be the wheels of fire compliation and unbelievably hard driving wasnt the first game to disappoint me in the day believe it or not
chase hq i played once when i was very very young in the arcades and i also had the spectrum version of chase hq
Hard driving i actually only aquired originally on my spectrum (before c64 was even known in my family) was when my grandfather bought it me as a gift one day - the spectrum version is that better than the c64 version of both games - whoever programmed both games should be ashamed of themselves
I saw the c64 version of Chase HQ before the arcade, still never liked it though.

The plan worked, and, bizarrely, the game was published by Domark. The game only cost the price of a few bunches of bananas to produce."
This can't possibly be a Speccy port - the Spectrum version was superior in every way. You could choose which track you wanted to go on by simply driving there, you could see more than 4 feet in front, the other cars didn't appear to drive straight at you and there were replays. Some games date badly, but this C64 version was dated before it was even made.
Hahaha! Thanks for reviewing this crap game! I think I played this only once or twice on my C64 as a kid, and I think I actually pulled all of the tape reel from the cassette!

was a great game ! but unfortunatly the 8 bit machines, could never ever have hoped to run it properly.
but they still ported it and took our money, after playing this in the arcade i couldnt wait to play it at home.
knew the graphics were going to be crap, but the frame rate make this impossible to steer and so slow and frustrating to play

The sega genesis version is even worse.

@reggiardito that is a retarded comment. As lame as the Genesis version is (and LAME it is) this is even worst.

I still remember playing it 15-16 years ago on C64. I must admit, it is a really crappy port. Even at the time of the release it felt crappy.

it's a very tiny bit faster than I thought, but the god-awful control surely makes up for it, makes it look like a "rail racer" or something!

hahaha... great review all the same, we do write crazy things after a few beers.
Im still recovering from Hard Drivin C64 to this day, it destroyed my childhood.

it's direct port from Speccy. I used to "drive" but there was no way to get into the track!!
kalateur 4 years ago

i mean i expected better c64's graphics than speccy 's graphics. Anyway all we know c64 was never too good for "real" 3d games.
