I chose French as my second language and I ask you - why should I cater to people who don't care themselves to learn English? I speak of what I know. I've worked in many restaurant kitchens in CA and the Mexicans I knew couldn't have cared LESS about learning English. Their philosophy seemed to be that there was enough of them there and they didn't need to. Yes, I find that attitude unAmerican as hell. I'm sorry if this doesn't bother you any.

It may be a generational thing. First generation immigrants tend to stay away from learning the language a lot of the time. My buddy and his girlfriend (eastern european and korean) both have grandparents that have been in the country for decades and have never learned the language. Their subsequent next of kin however have more than wanted to learn the language. They also carry the positive traits of their respective cultures with them.
