I watch the video, than I browse the comments. Absolutely amazing what people can make of a video that not much over 2 minutes long. Franken was accurate in his assessment. What Cenk spoke about is the transformation from USA to USA inc. many of us see happening.
Personally I don’t want people running around armed BUT the constitution say they can. Courts have said amendments can be regulated but not to the point of out right ban.
Frank and beans is right but the problem is liberal judges should be remove for violating their oath. The last easy test was 2 amendment 5 to 4. 4 of these justices violated their oath to the constitution with no doubt. The other conservative justices have violated their oath in other amendments so they should be impeached and removed also.
Judges that are appointed must up hold the constitution and their oath to do so and must be watched.
I just hope that once the prop 8 issue hits the supreme court, its not too late before Obama appoints another justice to make sure that 5 to 4 agaist prop 8, and gives gay marriage the chance to go national finally, something that I don't think the current court as it is will do.
@KangaKucha The people have voted time and time again that we don't want gay marriage. When will you wake up and stop forcing your satanic beliefs on people that don't want them? You all keep pushing and one day you will get pushed back.
@Broughttolight Nobody is forcing you to have a gay marriage, but you have no right to keep that from those that do. How does it effect you if two men get married? NOT AT ALL. The Founding Fathers said that never should the rights of a minority be put up for the public vote of a majority. When gay marriage is legal nationwide you will see the sky wont fall, and your two gay neighbours getting married effects you no more then when it's raining 500 miles away from where you live.
Thomas Jefferson writing on the rise of "Judicial Tyrany" :-
This case of Marbury and Madison is continually cited by bench and bar, as if it were settled law, without any animadversions on its being merely an obiter dissertation of the Chief Justice … . But the Chief Justice says, “there must be an ultimate arbiter somewhere.” True, there must; but … . The ultimate arbiter is the people …. — Letter to Judge William Johnson, June 1823
I dont know why people make such a big deal out of the fact that he was a comedian, dont they know behind every funny joke is the truth?
Comedians are some of(not all of them) the smartest people, with a broad perspective of the world. Thats why their able to see irony in life that millions of others see but couldnt quite put their finger on.
@tray04will I agree we have worked are way down from B actors to clowns. What the hell why not have some street people, jailbirds and mental patients in congress and senate,AHH yes true democratic equality at work. Wonderful!!!
@xxdonaldqxx Your failed attempt at sarcasm doesn't impress me at all. Here's some more truth for you to choke on. The clowns and mental patients are the current Republican party cause damned if you motherfuckers didn't lose your minds when that black man got elected president. LMAO!!!!!!!!
@tray04will I am not a Republican or a Democrat. As far as people losing their mind I happen to believe the the whole country is insane with the shit that is going on and the garbage the citizens tolerate from their so called leaders and elected representatives. The United States is sinking fast so have fun with your LMAO'S and LOL'S.
Here is the real reason why the supreme court matters to a hunk of trash like Franken. The supreme court (if stacked his way) could pervert and distort the meaning of the constitution. In reality the constitution is the supreme law of the land. People like Franken would like us to believe the constitution is mysterious or outdated and needs to either be interpreted or have parts of it changed or abolished.Even if the first ten amendments are inalienable rights the first two are now under attack.
@xxdonaldqxx aahhhh what are you talking about? Franken has done more to stand up for our civil liberties than almost any other senator since he's been in session! I really dont understand your comment, how is Franken against the constitution? Look at his voting record & speeches, he's clearly on the side of the people(and our civil liberties) & NOT multinational corporations.
@xxdonaldqxx you just reversed my question! You were stating he doesnt care about the constitution so i was asking YOU to give examples!
Even though your playing games&being intellectual dishonest i'll still give you a straight answer; 1)AUDIT THE FED! 2)Protecting rape victims rights! 3) opposing the reinstatement of the "patriot" act. 3)Opposing monopolies, telecommunications & banking. 4)his banking reform efforts of ending fraud in banking thru "rating" "agencies."fraud IS unconstitutional
@xxdonaldqxx No no you hunk of garbage, once again you've been told what to think by scum. Why can't you do your own thinking for a change? You don't know what the fuck you're writing and you have no idea what Al Franken's platform is. That's because you're an ignorant and frightened fool, easily led.
@nilbud Why does someone from Ireland insinuate himself on United States politics and the political views of the U.S. citizens on an almost daily basis?
It really amazes me how Cenk comes out with all this anti-capitalist rants, but then just a few short years ago he was a raving conservative...makes you wonder what political stance will he be jumping up for next?..
Cenk isn't anti-capitalist. He's pro-sanity. I also used to consider myself a conservative, and I've made the switch because I can see how the conservatives have just gone batshit with the tea party movement, the conspiracy theories, and everything else. I'm all done with conservatives.
I would suggest to you to take the best of the conservative ideology, as you understand it, then emulate it. Ideology is basically the study of ideas and conservatism, like liberalism, is just a collection of ideas which are constantly in flux.
@Steve197201 - The idea that liberals are anti-capitalist is ludicrous. Many liberals will point out to you that they themselves have started corporations, Thom Hartmann being the example that comes to mind.
The difference being that liberals know that people were here first, and that the corporations/capitalism were originally created by people to be servants to people. Corporations are tools, and just like any tool can be used to do good or evil.
To say that corporations have human rights is like saying a toaster has human rights. And to say that they shouldn't be regulated is like saying that a toaster shouldn't have a timer, that the toast should just pop out whenever the toaster "decided" it was the right time, thus it might not toast at all or burn your toast or even burn your house down.
@polkarde It's called an education, something you won't even read about. Don't worry it doesn't concern you. Have a pray to your invisible friends and a nap.
@polkarde "Anti-capitalist" wtf? Talk about an invented charge. You are a pure motivated thinker. You have made up your mind. The only thinking you do now is after the fact justifications and self invented reinforcing logic.
You even somewhat admit to this by sighting the fact Cenk 'switched sides' as a negative. Its a GOOD thing to be always looking at evidence and constantly scrutinising your own position. Stubbornness is not a virtue. You confuse loyalty to people with loyalty to ideas.
@EMPIREofPUPPETS You should probably go to a different brothel the next time. I don't know much about your kind of assplay though so maybe you like them up there.
Man I know it isn't politically correct but I just find these conservative religious sex freaks disgusting.
Well first of all Al Franken is not a politician, he lost the election but the rightful winner had it stolen by fraud (acorn) and he is just a comedian. But if the liberal problem with a right wing court is that they help small buisnesses grow to create wealth and earn the American dream, then the right wing problem with the left wing court is that they trample christianity, murder millions of children, and fundamentally take this country against the wishes of the founding fathers.
@tehant1liberal Franken didn't steal the election. He used the system by the rules to ask for a recount that wasn't even needed because it was within 5 percent so there was a mandatory one. The day after the recount started Coleman said Frankin should stand down and admit he lost. What did Coleman do when he lost the recount? He took it to court because he is hypocrite. As for the rest of your post I'm not going to dignify a response to that nonsense.
@tehant1liberal Acorn didn't have any offices in Minnesota and a Congressional report just cleared Acorn of any wrongdoing. Nice try witth the Fox news propaganda but the truth is, the Bush Corporatist agenda is more responsible for the GOP losing the house and Senate than Acorn.
@tehant1liberal He actually did win the did the re count several times. How come the re count with Bush kept having him win with a higher percent each time and with that election the other election the percentage stayed the same? Also right wingers never actually do what they claim when it comes to creating wealth. Libertarians do but right wingers no. Seriously when Bush was in office there really weren't any new jobs being created there were a whole bunch being shipped across seas.
@tehant1liberal No you stupid liar that's false. You are an awful fucking dunce thinking you can lie and people will accept it. You have to have a sub 50 IQ to imagine your utterly stupid lies could possibly be believed. You are a joke.
@frictionrx5 What the fuck does legislating from the bench in favor of business power have to do with upholding the constitution??? I hate to shout you down and be uncivil, but... jesus horatio fucking christ... do you even have a clue what Roberts is doing at all??? Al Franken is such a breath of fresh air. He is one of the few legislators who bothers to think logically.
@frictionRx5 Does the Constitution talk about corporations, regulation, and corporate rights?
no? Times change. Funny that you write "looney leftwing progressive agenda"... hmmm... I wonder where you got that from. Is it maybe time to think for yourself? I hope you can break your chains!
@frictionRx5 The fact that you say "loony leftwing agenda" proves to me that you don't think for yourself therefor there's no point of you even talking if all your going to do is give us the same party line that we all know well.
@frictionRx5 why the fuck are you still in the USA,you lying cunt? you said"if Obama wins the election i will move out of the USA..well? we are still waiting for you to fucking fuck off!(and dont try to sneak into Canada,we are watching out for you,you cunt!)
Obama has had the opportunity to appoint two LIBERAL judges to counter balance the extreme right wingers of the current court but he appointed a center right judge in Sonia Sotomayor who voted with republican judges on 90% of her cases she is not a liberal...the new nominee has no record to judge her on and is more than likely even more to the right than Sotomayor..Obama has been a traitor to everyone who voted for him not one liberal/progressive has been considered for the Supreme Court
More down to earth comedians should run for office.
WONDER TWIN POWERS ACTIVATE, FORM OF, A "JON STEWART."
And the Supreme Court ruling giving corporations the same power as an individual American voter is the most absurd piece of judicial legislation ever. Allowing businesses to lobby with an unlimited budget has killed our country and the capitalist way in which we do business. I don't think Abraham Lincoln said "a Government for, by and of corporations" at Gettysburg. Maybe I'm wrong.
Roberts is EVIL bought and paid for by the CORPORATIONS OF THE WORLD! How in the flying F**K did this HAPPEN? Between him and Uncle TOM the genevisea looking Mobster Boss Scalia is such a farce it makes me sick what's happened to this country. You American folks better wake the F**K up and look at what's happening in your country because before long you all will be in jail.
@danger0usknowledge How about sharing the video link with the rest of us schmos? Apparently the only place claiming to have it is Huffington and they're having problems with it. Sure I already read it, but nothin' beats seeing it to catch all the subtle inflections, facial expressions, etc. PLEASE SHARE
Mega corporations like Wal-Mart and BP could never exist without subsidies and protection from the government. On the other hand big government could never exist without mega corporations to generate revenue to support it. Once you understand that they you'll understand why the government doesn't care about regular people. The government exists only to protect itself and the elite that benefit from its protection. The Democrats are no better. Obama is a neocon the same as Bush was.
nah, just keep fighting over who can marry who, why a guy can't smoke a joint at home and prayer is schools. This keeps all the idiots fighting over their stupid sense of ego and correctnes of everythings- that way corporations and religion can take over goverment and be who is really running the world-- opps look it already happened !
@nilbud no not just the US. YOu live in Ireland. Do you not feel the catholic church via the goverment has had control there? I know your situation is improving though correct
@mompm In the past the Catholic Church could swing a maximum of 10% of votes which occasionally gave them the kingmaker role. The Penal Laws had made being Irish Catholic illegal, there was a huge swing towards the banned church. Under english tyranny the church provided education punishable by death, and not just in mumbo jumbo but the three Rs. After we threw the english out the Irish went a bit OTT on the jiggery beads. All the religitards are dying or dead now .
You should read up on Rhenquist's views on Majoritarianism. It's almost as if he was damning the careful checks & balances protections placed in the U.S. Consitution for minority rights. Very frightening stuff.
Let's give conservatives their way, and remove ALL federal government posts for 4 years. No regulators, no political police, no medicare, no social security, hell, no federal government at all.
If we're still around after those 4 years, let's see if they still hate the federal government.
Wow that would be a MAJOR case of "cutting off the nose to spite the face"!!!
I wonder how folks can realistic think in this way, & yet NOT realize that the reason that they are not food poisoned everyday or not being shocked by faulty appliances on a consistent basis is due to government involvement.
Conservatism to me is like an ostrich always burying its head in the sand & pretending that all the bad stuff will go away simply "because." What a bankrupt POV that is.
@willia3r I agree completely, but I'm also starting to think, that it's the only way they would see how messed up some of their ideals and complaints really are.
@bobbytiger I do believe he was also saying that Palin was not qualified to be governor of Alaska. Given her inability to complete a single term, I'd say he's been proven right.
@bobbytiger Right, because when Palin says that the vice presidents job is to be, "in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes..." she is mispeaking like Obama did when he started to say 50 states, meant to say 47, and splurred them together by accident.
Sorry Bobby, but you know as well as I do that Obama had a brain fart while Palin is just plain old stupid.
I really don't understand how idiotic conservatives can bash Franken for being a former comedian when their most admired hero was a B list actor who was also one of the biggest corporate sponsors of his time. Hell he was basically a spokes-model for corporate interests during his acting career and his presidency.
But hey, maybe i'm wrong in my assumption that you're just a brain dead conservative.
@Shadowclock315 One should also acknowledge at this point that Bush pretends to be Texan and in his in his leisure wears a cowboy costume and walks like he just got off a horse. A pretty good actor if you ask me!
And, Doggone it, People Like Him (Myself included)!
Who would have ever thought that Stewart Smalley would be kicking so much ass? I hope he continues his great work! As long as he does, he has my support!
@MinGophers Too bad people will ignore him. An the corporations will get their way. It is far to easy for people to stew in their ignorance. Sorry to be such a downer but I have long given up.
didn't this same clique bash AL Franklin for the comments he made on the last Israeli/Palestine incident? one minute Franklin is spat upon the next he's praised. wait till all the facts are in before you make up your mind.
@nigen No, it was Barney Frank they were critizing. Different dude. Besides, I have yet to meet anybody who I agree 100 percent on absolutely everything.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Liberals, what Cenk fails to realize is that if corporations dont thrive, then citizens don't thrive...Corporations aren't the bad guy, they hire us, they pay on wages....If they suffer, we suffer...I know Corporations have it pretty easy but if they have it harder, then we have it harder and get paid less...It's that simple liberals
@pennjersey83 you have it backwards, if the citizens don't thrive the corporations don't (well shouldn't thrive). Unfortunately the citizens pay for the stupidity of the corporations through like the recent bail outs...we're paying them twice, once in general to keep them in business and again when they fuck up. If the corporations don't make money, they go under (how capitalism should work) but since they've bought our government, if they corporations get in trouble we go under...not them.
@pennjersey83 How? The corporations make money based on the citizens...where the hell else do they get their money from? If the citizens can't buy/invest in their shit they go under right?
So what you're saying is that corporations can disregard laws, they should not be forced to pay for the consequences of their actions, that safety regulations should be discarded and so on?
In case you didn't notice, there's a minor oil spill in the Mexico Gulf. It's there because some corporation didn't follow the rules, they cheated for the sake of profit. But it's ok with you because you don't live near the gulf?
@pennjersey83 Funny, they thrive by not supporting Americans. Used to be Wal-Mart was the place to go to buy stuff Made In America, now you'll be hard pressed to find much there that is.
Corporations would rather pay us less. Wages of CEOs have gone up a lot faster than wages of the average worker. So they're thriving, we are not.
Corporations should not have more rights or even the same rights as you or I. THAT would be an Oligarchy. Apparently that's what you want.
Al Franken is TRULY Sarah Palin's DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCH and PUSSY! Palin is a SUPERIOR politician and statesman than this ass-clown of ass-clowns could ever be. She has THE FRANK and is MORE MAN than he is for Franken wears the skirt in his family while his wife has the FRANK and wears the pants! President Palin will EXPOSE Franken's PUSSY for the whole world to see and have him replaced with a conservative white woman senator!
@minisiets Franken is not that progressive when it comes to the patriot act. In a committee vote he voted against a admendment that would have weakened the wiretapping of americans.

I saw the whole video, great stuff from
Senator Al Frankin. He is boring but not boring.
He is serious and taken seriously and
in doing so can be very funny. This guy
surprised me. His predecessor could never
have made a speech like this even in front
of the conservative counterpart. The fact that
Norm Coleman was too busy being bombed out
of his mind even on CSPAN has nothing to do with it.
The fact that Coleman nearly won is staggering.

Now who is the "dumb-fuck"?
Clue: Step to the mirror.

@bobbytiger I do believe he was also saying that Palin was not qualified to be governor of Alaska. Given her inability to complete a single term, I'd say he's been proven right.

@Jermbot15
Indeed, people say a lot of things.
For instance, when Obama said that there are
57 States in the Union.
bobbytiger 1 year ago

Corporations are not more important than people.
xgunnBlaze 1 year ago 2
@pennjersey83 you have it backwards, if the citizens don't thrive the corporations don't (well shouldn't thrive). Unfortunately the citizens pay for the stupidity of the corporations through like the recent bail outs...we're paying them twice, once in general to keep them in business and again when they fuck up. If the corporations don't make money, they go under (how capitalism should work) but since they've bought our government, if they corporations get in trouble we go under...not them.
Brewhahh 1 year ago 3
@Brewhahh
You are completely incorrect man
pennjersey83 1 year ago
@pennjersey83 How? The corporations make money based on the citizens...where the hell else do they get their money from? If the citizens can't buy/invest in their shit they go under right?
Brewhahh 1 year ago
@pennjersey83 It's the corporations that are dependent on the consumers...not the other way around.
Brewhahh 1 year ago
@pennjersey83
Orkaney 1 year ago
@pennjersey83 Funny, they thrive by not supporting Americans. Used to be Wal-Mart was the place to go to buy stuff Made In America, now you'll be hard pressed to find much there that is.
Corporations would rather pay us less. Wages of CEOs have gone up a lot faster than wages of the average worker. So they're thriving, we are not.
Corporations should not have more rights or even the same rights as you or I. THAT would be an Oligarchy. Apparently that's what you want.
