  • Although I am Japanese, this song will feel the romance of Russia and Gypsy. My distant ancestor was a traveler might seem like much of the continent. I think that this feeling in my blood. Nostalgia is very resurrection.

  • Cool. The first time I heard this was in the game Syberia and I had to hear the original though the version in the game was great too. The beginning piano and bass kind of sounds like Autumn Leaves.

  • I don't know why I don't like her face.

  • Jazz is freedom to sing a song as you feel and enjoy. Singing this song as jazz may not go well with the traditionalists but Sophie does a great work and the band as well, beautiful voice; and, being Russian makes it an "authentic" style.

  • A versão Jazz ficou legal! Adorei! Salvei nas favoritas!!!

  • Please, Linus Entertainment, please upload a better quality version of this video :(

Love her voice, and her Russian is perfect, with a hint of an accent! Sexy and Charming... Brava! Molodez!

  • i want to fack this angel! <3

  • I agree that most people don't like this jazzy version but since most people are morons it is not a concern.

  • Lovely!!!!

  • I like this jazzy version of the song and her pronunciation is not bad ( I am russian and it sounds ok to me ), Sophy is Canadian with Russian heritage .

And she is a stunning woman.

    Inessa

  • the low ratings are not for the song or the performer, but for the band and performance, most people don't like this jazzy version including myself

  • Christ!!! THE WORST VERSION OF THE SONG. The song is damaged. her pronunciation is brrrr... So sad so sad

  • @Search1110 This is jazz version bro,and its very good.

  • @tgy07 Very good because you said so? You must be imbecile, no less...

  • @Search1110 Well , why are you so agressive ? It's only my decision... By the way , I am not an imbecile , but a jazz guitarist..

  • @tgy07 Aggressive? I did not find any aggression here but my opinion. Have You?

  • Lol totally agree.... xD

  • wonderful. :X i heard this song sung by so many artists but i guess this is as good as it gets.

  • Э-эх , Я бы с ней... дуэтом забацал...очи,так сказать))))))))))))))))))))))))))))).

  • E allora ti resta uno struggimento, che è quello che poi mi lascia questa canzone...

  • singing in Russian?

  • just perfect

  • I love her singing and her band.

  • xorosho poet ! She sings very well..I like her voice

  • Заткнись

  • My mother would sing this all the time when I was a child...it's a very popular Russian song.

  • omg why so low ratings? all i said was her music is seductive to make love to....jeez...this song is smooth ans sexy and loungy..

  • @hotgirlchick32 What low ratings...?

  • 'Очі' is the Ukrainian word for 'eyes', but the song is still sung in Russian.

  • In which language it is? In russian "eyes" are "glazy", "horrible" is "strashne", not "strasne"

  • @ratnik44 In Russian eyes are "glaza," not "glazy" (irregular plural). The word is strastnie, meaning passionate, not strashnie, meaning horrible/scary. Ochi is an old word for eyes that's no longer really in use in modern Russian. In any case her pronunciation is pretty bad.

  • @sbonfiglioli Thank You for reply. Do these ochi mean the song is very, very old, or it's not in official Russian, but e.g. in some kind of the Russian dialect?

  • @sbonfiglioli what is so bad about her pronunciation??? Absolutely fine ... I am Russian and can't say she has much of an accent ...

  • @sbonfiglioli, гонишь, нормальное произношение, хотя и не дикторское. У неё стиль такой, вялый.

  • pure chills...

  • Никакой страсти, взяла и песню испортила, овца бля.

  • @SpardaLos послушай эту песню из её официального альбома...там получше :)

  • She's a hot, Russian Babe! I never realized the Russian language can sound sexy.

  • That why they have the "Mr Bond" said by a russian Woman. Oh Yeah!

  • As long Sophie Milman's singing it.. If you listen to versions by ivan rebroff, sounds pretty scary

  • @Cluelessron rebroff sings like god. if God has voice he sounds like Ivan Rebroff. But Sophie is also great! Maybe it is something in the Russian soil. Who knows...

  • Perfect performance !

  • Amazing. Good job. I love this music.

  • Strange way of interpreting this song. It appears to me she is taking its tragic meaning away. It is a simple love song, but profound in its simplicity, because it captures the essence of unconditional love, to love even without being loved back. But it is an immense pleasure to listen to her, I say.

  • greath...

  • The lyrics of this song was written by a Ukrainian poet in 1843, Russia was ruled by a monarchy until it was overthrown in1917, FYI.

  • You're a communist

  • I resent that, Comrade!

  • It has a atmosphere of WWII German broadcast.

  • fain fain... :X

  • For you a greeting like "preved" would probably sound the same :))))

Go get some medicine against schizophrenia.

  • Very Very wonderful

i like this song too much

  • *adore*

  • wow. Da nu!! Sowsem bez akzenta!! Respect =-D *****

  • Так ведь она русская. Родилась в Уфе.

  • This version is vastly superior to the one on her eponymous CD.

  • Amazing.. such passion... the degrading comments on this thread are from people who neither have talent nor can appreciate it.. I wish the comments functionality of youtube could be moderated to keep out that sort of trash.

To add, I'm not a big fan of Russian music as I left my homeland as a child of 5, and the language sounds more rough to me then English, however she does a great job of smoothing the language and jazzifying the track.

    Great job!

  • russian culture and music is great!!!

  • she is fabulous. the way she is mixing different music styles is amazing. soul food.

  • Instead of recognizing innovative creations, you criticize. If Milman's jazzy rendition of a Russian classic is disgustingly immiscible why the shit does your Russian ass even speak English? Respect cultural diffusion you ignorant and irate imbecile. As if she deliberately tried to disgrace mother Russia.

  • fab!!!!

  • yeah,i prefer the original version.=/

  • psychologicalshock.

You called Ivan Rebroff's Great Traditional version "Soviet propaganda". Perhaps you could do us all a favour buy qualifying your comments. I happen to think that

Sophie Milman is one of the best (If not the best) new talents to appear on the world stage In the past few years, and this is the best jazz version of this song I have heard.

If you know of a better one PLEASE tell us what it is, then we can judge for our selves.

  • "This Zhidovka has 0 talent, she is absolutely nothing"

    ahahahahha "This ZHIDOVKA" lol

  • She's like a Russian Rebecca Romeijn. Fantastic.

  • Marvellous. If you have the opportunity to see/hear her live, do it. A great performer.

  • I've been listening to a dozen versions of this song tonight and this is, simply, THE ONE.

  • I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS SEXY VOICE!

  • סופי, מחכים לך בישראל.

  • Wonderful singer. I can't stop playing her songs after hearing an interview with Sophie on NPR one morning.

  • It's certainly not the best version of this song, but she's such a gorgeous singer! And it's so nice to hear her sing in Russian. I'd love to hear her sing old Russian jazz.

  • A lovely sincere woman to have met, as well as a fabulous singer!

  • lol

    she is my friends sister

  • perfect!!! love it... enjoying it...

  • Sophie Milman is Russian born, but now lives in Canada. At the age of 25 she has established herself as an international jazz singer.

While this is not one of my favorite songs by her, it shows once again her talent, range and sophistication. I have never heard a song by her that I disliked.

  • any russian can translate it to english plz?

  • on the right side of this page look for the video Black ( Dark ) Eyes Russian song English Subtitles

  • Actually first open the video Ochi Chernie - Black Eyes (Russia) with the picture of some eyes, then you will find that song with English subtitles. Or search for the video Dark Eyes (Ochi chyornye) performed by Tommy Cox. He sings it in English.

  • you can find the translation on wikipedia just search for "dark eyes":D

  • uffff

  • "The" most sensual girl I've heard singing in my almost 63 years of living... but it may be my Ukrainian ancestry resurfacing, I don't know. We're going to see her live tomorrow night, I'll be able to better comment after that.
