hey this thing looks awesome! have you ever thought about making another one? you should make them for fun and sell them on ebay... if you ever do decided to make another, could you put a step by step video up? i cant find anything on it anywhere..
no biggie...lastly where did you get that fancy ribbon? and how did you get that high gloss finish? I assume you have to sandpaper and primer the surface before painting it?
With a cheap sponge paint brush careful not to smear the glue. The black acrylic was just slabbed all over to prevent it from having brush streaks. I protected the parts I didn't want black with tape and newspaper. As the paint and Elmers glue dried, it gave the crackle effect on the sides.
The lace stuff I got a Michaels or JoAnn's craft store. Can't remember which one. I just browsed the lace and thought that would work.
Lastly, to give it the deep, wet, super shine, I coated the whole thing with an oil based acrylic sealer in gloss. I used about 2/3 of that can. I even sprayed it over the lace and everything.
the mask came out great there is no doubt about that, I just wish you actually went more in depth of how you made it, painted it, and where you got your supplies. This is a fairly poor tutorial in that regard.
True... I made the mask about two years before making the video. Then lost lots of pictures due to a dead hard drive along the way. I need to make another and post a better video.
so tell me after you get on the initial layer for the shape do you just use more paper mache to get the details? also I noticed some venetian masks have this swirly gold design on them....it rises from the mask so i thought they jsut used a glue gun and painted over it...is that right or is it something else?
After my face, I used plaster and plaster bandages to form the rest of the shape. I used scissors to remove the excess. The nose, eyebrows were sculpted using stuff called Celluclay. It's basically paper mache powder that is like clay when wet. The swirly gold, from what I've researched before, is exactly as you say. A hot glue gun on lower temp setting to make the designs, then painted gold when dry. I used some gold lace like stuff I got from the hobby store and glued it with the hot glue.
that is the world best mask ever or not the world best but it is hand made and then it is the best mask in the whole wolrd but how did you get the chin so long and it sounds a nit of scary you didi say that your face can be pull of but it is godd that you are saying it for the security so thanks for showing this and bye bye
After I removed the mask from my face, I cut the tops and bottoms off. I then drilled holes in the top and bottom to fill with plaster and give more support to build the taller head and lower chin part. Those were made by putting the mask against a big can and layering the plaster bandages. After that dried, I used the celluclay and sculpted the nose by hand. I also added cheeks, eyebrows and a ridge that goes from the bottom of the nose to the bottom of the chin piece. Hope that answers! : )
I used scissors to trim the edges smooth and remove the extra bits after it dried. I basically made the whole thing out of scratch using plaster, celluclay (paper mache clay) and paint.
It would be fine on your lips, but make sure you smear vaseline on them so the plaster doesn't pull your face off. You also want to make sure you can still breathe.
how did u create the lace pattern on the mask?

@leolion1990 It's actually gold lace I got from the craft store. It's carefully hot glued on.

@biohazardx03
bah lastly lastly :P....what kind of paint did you use? the gold looks good so is it gold leaf or spray paint?
biohazardx03 2 years ago
First was gray primer. A whole spray can worth.
Sanded it down smooth.
Then used a metallic red spray paint over the whole thing. Many light coats. Used the whole can.
Then use a red spray glitter all over. The whole can.
When dried, I used tape to mask off the red. Then sprayed metallic gold paint. Many light coats. Then finished it up with gold glitter spray.
After dry, I used white elmers glue on the sides and painted it on. When it started getting thick, I slabbed on black acrylic paint.
