  • I just found these old videos!! Before tonight I never knew that Freddy Mercury was part of a band before Queen. Thank you for uploading them!!

  • Sounds like blues. Not bad.

  • The bass player is horrendously out of tune. That's probably affecting the pitch in Freddie's vocal.

  • Well, Queen are in fact Smile, just under a different name! lol When Tim Staffel left Smile, Freddie joined as the new singer. Later on, he came up with the idea of changing the name of the band to Queen. So Queen are in fact Smile, just with a different name, Freddie on vocals and John Deacon on bass! :P

  • @AngelicStorm1 No Tim Staffel, Freddie as vocalist...different music, so NO!!! Smile=Smile and Queen=Queen! The only likeness is that Brian May and Roger Taylor where in Smile. The band broke up after 2years...after that Freddie joined the 2 and they formed Queen...but he did NOT join Smile.

  • Am I dreaming or it's Ringo Starr at 2.23 ?

Look, a picture with Freddie Mercury AND Ringo Starr !

    OMG

  • @lola14931 and there's a poster of george harrison on freddie's wall in the first picture XD

  • Come on, you people are being too harsh on the band. Sure they were no Queen, but we all know that Freddie, Brian, Roger and John didn't grow up together, so they had to get their start in other bands and polish their talents before joining together.

Ibex was a decent band, even though the crappy quality of the recordings do a poor job of proving it. In fact, we'd be lucky if most bands today sounded like this.

  • Freddie is my favorite singer EVER but... i don't like his voice when he's singing with Ibex!!! He can do much better than this! You can see it when hear any of Queen's songs

  • @Marianaavalle

He always had the talent in him, but talent takes a lot of time and tweaking to develop... he just hadn't found his "sweet spot" yet but you can tell he was getting there. =)

  • Did anyone else notice those really high notes freddie hit at the end there? So powerful, they almost remind me of Freddies voice in the 80's, like he always had this strong urge to spread his wings and woe the world all in one swing, but he buttered everyone up and built the anticipation right until the end of his life, where he hit some of the highest notes of his career. Freddie always had it, whatever it was, he had right from the beginning, he just wasn't get let us get the whole cake.

  • olé!!

  • i like the band "smile" better... since it actually had brian may + roger taylor.

  • 40 años de esa canción! increible los años que hay de música magica de Freddie Mercury!

  • I can hear some Jimi Henrix influence...well that's a blues...I like Freddie's early voice...but I wish we could hear less the bass which is again out of tune ! lol

  • Very amateurish. Smile was much more like future Queen than any Freddie`s `before` band.

  • @MargusKiistheCritic Well duh, half of Queen's members were in Smile, so of course they would be the most Queen-sounding band next to the real thing itself.

  • So Sweet !!....Love seeing FREDDIE so young, so sweet, so beautiful !!!!

    Love the photos !!

    FREDDIE FOREVER !!!!!!!!!

  • Probably just me but some parts of this song sounds a bit like 'Sleeping on the Sidewalk' to me...no?

Thanks for sharing, David. Love the photos; many I have never seen before.
