All men and women who serve are special and thank God for them. While most sleep peacefully in their beds, the people who serve in the military are out there on the front lines to insure that peace and security. The Marines I served with will also be special to me and there is no greater feeling than knowing that every Marine you meet from that day to the last is your brother. The proudest moment in my son's live was when he was called a Marine for the fist time. And the second was when folded the flag drape over Grandfather;s casket.. And true Marine form it was folded perfect.. And I know my father inlaw was looking down and was smiling. and saying proudly his grandson is a Marine.
My Dad, Sgt, Marine, Pacific, Tarawa, Saipan; Me, Sgt, marine, Viet Nam 2 voluntary tours; my younger Brother, Sgt, Marine, Dessert Storm 1 & Captain Iraqi Freedom; my older brother, Army, Sgt. Viet Nam era & Dessert Storm 1; My Uncle, Cpl, North Africa, Italy and Battle of the Bulge. And there should be a draft so all of the volunteers have someone to put on point. Everyone should share the resppnsibility of freedom.
Im glad they are not fighting an army right now. They are fighting terrorists. They would probably be having a harder time if fighting against tanks, apaches, fully armored men. Just glad they are winning!

Fighting terrorists, urban combat and engaging a rag-tag militia such as these terrorists is 10x harder than fighting an organized military who can be properly identified. Trust me, it would be easier fighting an "army" as you put it, where you KNOW and can identify who the enemy is. but then, what do I know? I only retired after 22 years in the Corps! And btw, NO ONE "wins" in a war. NO ONE!

When it's all said and done, it comes down to you and the men you serve with who are your brothers. Comeraderie is what it all comes down to. Im just about to go into the USMC, heading out to Parris Island in november, I here its going be a living hell there, but really I can't wait to get the chance to earn the title of a Marine!
My brother thought the same thing going in January. But he said it wasn't as hard as he thought it would be. Then he went to combat training/ school of infantry. He says that 3 weeks makes 3 months of boot camp feel like a walk in the park. Y'all got it lucky. You have flat lands. Out west they have to deal with slopes from high hill sides and whatnot.
