What an excellent composition by Shrinivas Khale ji.....and Lataji has put a soul in it....it is a perfect presentation of the feelings by Saint Tukaram for his thirst for meeting almighty.,,just brings tears in eyes every time i listen to this abhang....
What a profound and serenely sensitive understanding you display!! Thanks you!! But I am also completely baffled I must also confess: How or who might have flagged this wonderful comment of yours as `Spam'???!!!!
Just one correction though: `Dhavuni Sri-Mukha' Sir, not `Bhavuni' which makes better sense as follows: ``Come running and show your Auspicious Face O Lord!"
@TheVitalstatistix "What a profound & serenely sensitive understanding you display!! Thank you!!"
I'm the one who feels humbly blessed when an insightful Soul with maturity of thought like YOUR kind self "understands" the depth of any spontaneous expression of my thoughts I write in all humility, on such wonderful uploads!
Any or all credit otherwise goes to the ONE insightful sweet soul I was blessed to be in the wise, serene company of, in my formative years, my Dear-Departed Dad. :)
My soul thirsts to meet/as it waits day and day for Thee/the full moon is life to the chakora (fabled bird that lives on moonbeams alone) so does my mind await thee (O Lord!)/The daughter pines due to Diwali (the festival of lights) as she awaits the path (for her loved ones to visit) to Pandhari (Lord's home)/As the hungry babe clamours greatly (for food) yet awaits for her Mom to return/So my soul thirsts O Lord for Thee/Says Tuka I hunger for thy holy face; show it me O Lord!

Gosh! What a heart-rending bhajan! The Voice of a lost devoted heart in an endless search, & Hope to fill that void deep within!
.."भुकेलिया डोळा अति शोक करी
वाट पाहे परी माउलीची
भेटी लागी जीवं लागलीसे आस
तुका म्हणे मज लागलीसे भूक
भावूनि श्रीमुख दावी देवाभेटी लागी जीवं लागलीसे आस.."
Even IF this kind of Pure Devotion in the quest for fulfillment, did "exist" in real life,
could it "ever" be understood, with the same intensity, & purity of thought, without preconceived misconceptions?!
Touched !

I tend to agree with srtambe. It seems the raaga is Jogiya. Go to this raaga on Youtube for confirmation.

See the clip of Bhimsenji's famous '' Piya ke milanki aas.'' in Jogiya

I think it is Jogiya it is based on.

This is really an awesome Abhanga. The clarity in Lata Mangeshkar's voice is incomparable.
By the way - which Raaga is this song based on? I thought it was ahir bhairav but I also think my guess is pretty wrong.
