From what I heard these lil guys are actually pretty smart. Seen one play fetch in Thailand. I tricked the lil guy to jump into a kitchen pot head first. Wish we had cell phones back then. My Polaroid pic pretty trashed up. My friend told me the meat was pretty tasteless.

@ Steergirl123 Its a pygmy hippo, evolutionary terms its different for obvious reasons. They are found in Madagascar and their size is attributed to "island dwarfing" but still enough time to be a species separate from a hippo. It did however originally come from African Hippos hence the name hippo-but different enough like humans and chimps to be classed separate. So you couldn't mate this boy/girl with a hippo so technically its not a hippo but a pygmy hippo :)

i was very disappointed in taronga zoo...

i travelled from adelaide to sydney to see monifa the pgymy hippo at taronga zoo in late january '09 and was told on the day she would be making an appearance, however after waiting at her enclosure for more than an hour, amongst a crowd of a hundred or so people (all to whom were also anxiously waiting to see her, and many who were also travelling from oversas...) she did not make an appearance.

nor did any keeper come out to annouce such a thing..
