  • i have the same trumpet in purple

  • Hello ! Amazing instrument ! What is the funky tune that can be heard behind ?

  • dude i love it but this defies the laws of gravity!! Hahaha

  • porn

  • BADASS-nice chops- reminds me of a soprano sax hooked up to floor pedals..

  • Oh 240p.

  • Beautiful love the new trumpet

  • The lick you play from 2:45 to 2:50ish is soooo hip man! The whole thing sounds great, love you feel.

  • Love your* feel @TrmptJakeG

  • Gee I remeber when I quit being a muscian and played an electronic device.Lets see you master that on a real trumpet.

  • can someone please tell me whta the name of the background song is.

    i love it.

  • whats the name of the beat.

  • que horrible trompeta jamas se escuchara a los instrumentos de metal

  • カッケー!!

  • PNUT This is a nice video of your cool and savvy instrument. You can play and swing harder than most trumpeters out. You Know!

  • @carwash1975 I see what you did there, and it is blue. :)

  • @misterringer Thanks dude.

  • that's groovy man! I've been thinking about getting one of those, is it worth it?

  • 4 ppl play the piccolo

  • What's the name off the backround music?

  • This is awesome I been watching your videos and its making me want to get one of these. I use to play trumpet in high school and miss being able to play in band. I try to play midi keyboard but i never learned piano. Great playing I don't care what others says music is music and your good. :D

  • HI,

this sounds great. I love the groove and soulful feeling you bring to your music. I'm very interested in wind synthesis. Have you tried many different synths and do create your own patches.

    Many thanks

    pedro

  • Also here is a link to my higher profile performances . Under the youtube search engine type "Cecil P'nut Daniels"

  • Thanks for the support nyhyl. However that kind of talk doesn't upset me; it's very amusing. This person "jazzmangiant" probably just feels intimidated. Why else would he call himself a giant. Maybe he'll send me something I can view to show me what he considers a real musician. However I have performed and or been featured with Carlos Santana, Widespread Panic, John Popper, Jerry Goodman, Fred Wesley, Warren Haynes, Bernie Worrell, Blackbyrd McKnight just to name a few who praise me work.

  • HI,

  • oh my god people really can be small minded. music is pleasing sound and what is pleasing is aboslutely subjective and relative. so stop dealing with taste of music as if it's about facts like there is good music or bad music in a scientific way. dont you realize how stupid that is? you guys are pathetic..

@sfpnut1: good job! :) keep on and ignore those ignorants...

  • @nyhyl It takes real work buddy to master a real trumpet.

  • Idk. I guess I just feel that this device kinda destroys the time honored tradition that is studying to become a musician. And I feel that that is a necessary part of music. the "building the chops" part. And you need..idk...a real musical instrument to do that.

  • Great video man :D

Just keep doing what you love and ignore the haters.

  • nice :)

  • I enjoyed that a lot, sir. Getting my father's trumpet in a couple months and hope to relearn what I lost years ago. This jam put a smile on my face. Thank you.

  • Thanks for this!

I play a Yamaha EZ-TP, and although it has its share of limitations, i,too, think that it can be expressive in the right context.

I like when you play that "glitchy" bit around 3.30.

Digital instruments can be worthwile when used not in a merely imitative manner.

Sometime I will post some examples of the EZ-TP, still need to practise more to make good use of its idiosycrasies.

    Greets from Berlin!

  • There is definitely a place in the world for digital instruments. For a guy like me, who plays the guitar but cannot play the keyboard or afford to hire someone to play the keyboard, I plug in my midi guitar controller and play piano vst's. Same thing with this digital trumpet thing. Would I wanna see this done live? not really, but for the solo recording guy, these inventions are awesome. Thanks for the demonstration!

  • As a former trumpet player I can relate to your sentiments. However, this is about expression and I express myself better on the digital instruments. I can only go by how I feel, not by how another think of feel. As a matter I was just contacted by Bernie Worrell (Talking Heads) & Blackbyrd McKnight (Miles Davis) to play horns on their new album. In addiion I've performed with Carlos Santana, Gerry Goodmanm (Mahavishnu Orch.), Fred Wesley (James Brown) to name a few. All of which love it!

  • although this is cool, it takes away everything that playing the trumpet is about. the sound patches are making the expressions, tone, and quality. anyone can learn fingerings and blow into a plastic mass. you could have bought a nice strad instead. your 1/3 there.

  • not quite true... Have you played one? The expression is still largely controlled by the player. Done by levers and switches on the horn, as well as breath pressure... Sure the method of doing the expression is different... As it is on an electric bass compared to an acoustic upright, for example.

I actually find it harder to learn the fingerings on the MDT, but that's because i used to play an acoustic trumpet... Hard to wrap my head around the fact i need to use my left hand ;)

  • @barbieridesign someone's limitation and borders are another's starting point. You need to get out of the box barbieri

  • @barbieridesign

You do realize that the point of the electric trumpet is to allow freedom of expression, to allow non professionals to play amazing and inspirational music, to show the advancements of technology. If this guy wanted to play trumpet, I'm damn sure he could if he wanted to. Quit being an elitist asshole. As a trumptet player myself, you are making us all look bad. . .

  • That was great I am a trumpet player and Would love to try the Digital Trumpet wow your great. Thanks for posting this video

  • great....now go to your real trumpet and try a high C....this is for pussys

  • This is good, I actually play a real trumpet and as a good squealer can hit high C's (well super-C's if you wanna be clever) reasonably consistently (always can get top As and Bs sometimes have problems with my C's) but as I can't afford a sound proofed room with an amazing mic for my studio a midi wind instrument is the way forward.

  • Sorry you feel that way. However, playing a high C on a trumpet doesn't make you a man no more than playing digital makes one a pussy. As a result of my endeavors on the digital horns I've had the privilege of performing with some of the industry's finest musicians and prestigous venues. As a matter of fact, I just received a call last night from guitarist Blackbyrd McKnight (Mies Davis, Herbie Hancock) & keyboardist Bernie Worrell (Talking Heads, P-Funk) to play horns on their new album.

  • ok......

  • Thanks for the reply. You know it really doesn't matter if you're playing a rock; as long as you feel good doing it.

You don't have to give up or defend your love for your trumpet, just be true to yourself.

Best wishes with all of your musical and life endeavors

  • the patches are amazing i wish i had an ewi 4000s being a sax player i wanna go

  • Don't be jealous...be inspired!

Now go and get you one!!!

    Much love

  • I really enjoyed this!!

So jealous tho, want one of these bad boys!

  • Yo 'P'...

You are the first I've heard play the MDT aside from 'The Man' himself. I am thoroughly impressed. I have had issues with my lip that make playing a conventional trumpet difficult and it may require surgery to correct. However, this 'trumpet' while not the same as my Getzen, may allow me to express myself musically. That I miss dearly! You're awsome, man...keep it up!

  • jcara17, I think this thing could really be the deal for you. I sometimes play mine without the mouthpiece. It really isn't needed, so damaged chops are OK. You won't be able to sit in with the community orchestra, but it's a natural for jazz and any other kind of experimental or improv music. I'm not much of a trumpet player, but this thing has opened up options that I enjoy, and as an amateur, that's what its about.

  • Nice playin' man keep it up!

    Mr. Morrison would be impressed.

I might get me one of these contraptions one day.

  • but playing the real thing is even cooler.

  • True true! I bet that your chops don't get as worn out on those High notes (?)

  • That's cool, but how does it work?

  • Cool playing! Where did you get the smooth jazz accom? Is it a midi file? I'd like to get it to practice too as well.

  • Thanks for the compliment. The groove for this one is a loop from a song by Euge Groove(?). I edited this loop (and the others from the "rehearsing the Morrison" clips) from the original songs and played them back through the Boss RC-50 loop station. Check out my most recent "demo" clip from the MoBoogie series where I share a lot of insights about my relationship to and my experiences with the midi horns.

  • oh yeah deadly! Brother please you know.

  • Thanks you so much for the flattering comment Rizz...you know it takes one to know one!

    Sincerely grateful.

  • I am sure Miles would have had lot of fun playing this. Remember his Wha-Wha excesses... Maybe it is better he never had the MDT, because probably he would not have touched the accoustic one anymore ;-)

And yes he was an innovator, even things where imperfect, this courage is his legacy.

  • nice job - the MDT rocks!

  • This s***s! Play an acoustic flute and squeeze your butt cheeks tightly - you'll get the same ratty sound. Jim Morrison should be strung up by his spit valve for developing this "trumpet." Sure hope it never catches on and is taken seriously.

  • Thanks so much for the inspiration. Your video of you playing the flute was truly magnificent! Keep it up!

  • C'mon man. A "trumpet" was never meant to sound like this contraption. Miles, Dizzy and Maynard are rolling over in their graves. Among we serious trumpet players, this "horn" is laughable.

  • Laugable it is! I get it, you must be an aspiring comedian not a musician (I guess that's why you call yourself "NotMiles") The only reason Miles or Dizzy didn't play this contraption is that it didn't exist when they did. We are innovators not imitators or agitators.

    Keep the laughs coming!

p.s. Got any more videos of you squeezing your butt cheeks playing the fulte? I truly loved the first one!

  • NotMiles is missing the point. Not sure his bias will ever let him get it. If you want a trumpet, play a trumpet, not this thing. But if you want to take the skills you've developed as a trumpet player and simply blow open the possibilities, get an MDT. It is not an imitation trumpet. Trumpets don't need an imitation as they are already great trumpets. But what wonderful things you can add to your trumpet chops! Pretty slick. I own one, and love it.

  • I agree entirely. It's a new field to explore with the skills you've developed. I hope to get one someday.

  • But Morrison has the guts to call it a "trumpet!" Out of respect for the instrument and all who play/have played it, please call it something else Morrison.

  • You're angry about a name of an instrument? Go do some long tones!

  • That's right! Let's call it a "shwizzy." Certainly seems to describe the sound of this contraption more fittingly than "trumpet."

  • Have you done your long tones yet?!

  • From this day forward I'm calling that thing I do on the trumpet "THE Shwizzy"!!!!!

    Thanx Shwiz

  • Hey NotMiles, Man I'm still waiting on that video of you squeezing your cheeks and playing your horn. Or are you still working on your comedy skit. No, all jokes aside, this is music, it's universal and you should not feel so intimidated, be inspired. Not that you may be interested but here is a clip of me with Bernie Worrell (Talking Heads), T.M. Stevens (James Brown) , Blackbyrd McKnight (Miles Davis), and BrainGuns & Roses).

  • I 100% agree. I've been playing saxophone for maybe 13 years(lost count), and just got an Akai EWI 4000s for Christmas, and to think that it was going to be hard, I was right. It's a completely different instrument, BUT it's a Major Plus to already have a woodwind background when playing it because it opens new doors for creativity, sounds(especially for recording), everything. I find that it's best to spend just as much time practicing on the EWI like you do with wind instruments, it's great!

  • Well, your name says it all... not miles. If this was available at his time he would experiment with it. I honestly think the sound is horrible but that's the modules fault

  • You can't put the blame on the module, man. To call this contraption a trumpet is downright insulting to my spit valves. Miles would have scoffed at this because it would have done nothing to move his music forward. In fact, it would have set it back. Kenny G might dig it though! Sheez...

  • It's ignorant to say it's even close to the level or comparison to the trumpet. It's a whole different instrument. The major plus is to utilize what skills a brasswind musician has to the MDT to make even more sounds and everything. I've played saxophone much longer than the EWI, but once I got an EWI, it made me realize it's meant to be treated differently than a saxophone. BUT it's meant to be used by people like us that already have a foundation from other instruments.

  • Thank you. The groove from this song is a loop from the song "Till The Cops Come Knocking" by Maxwell.

Let me know when you get one. I would love to collaborate with you on some material.

  • Nice groove, I'd love to get one of those some day...
