The main guy in the clip playing the logs was actually a Fijian 'king'. In Fiji they have many kings. An old friend of mine was married to a Fijian singer & he told me all about it.
Yes indeed its Bula Maleya coz the movie made in La'ie Hawaii thats y they put the name thea instead of Maleya.....u can hia the lingo is fijian ol the way especially at the end
I've just came back from Hawaii the song represents the pacific islands not just Hawaii the Polynesian culture centre is well worth a visit they show u how all the islands have integrated with each other and how the influences of each others dance and musical instruments have came together to what we have today the culture centre is on Oahu on the north shore
@CrazyFellaFiji Io. They say Bula Lai'e here because they're all performers at the Polynesian Cultural Centre on Lai'e (an island in Hawai'i). The original song was Bula Malea
Starting at the 1:00-minute mark, the lady next to Elvis Presley is my aunt Patiola Tauteoli (Taufa). She danced in the Fijian and Tongan sections in the PCC night show. It's really neat to see her dancing and she even got a close-up of her dancing with the derua.
Thank you for posting this.. all my family is in the Samoan section.. they look so young and beautiful... some have passed on..like uncle amagi.. I see aunty Erena in the Tahitian section...
sorry it has taken so long to reply but my comps been out. I have seen this type of drumming over in the islands around fiji years ago when I went over as a kid
@amethyst48 They are Fijian's from the South Pacific. And the ones with the girls swinging the Poi at 0:49 are New Zealand Maori's and the dancers at the start are Tongan. Dont forget the Polyunesian Islands are scattered throughout the pacific from Hawaii to NewZealand and have a diverse style of Dance song and art.
For the record the song is a Tonga song, but there are variants throughout the Polynesian culture.

The log players are Fijian, sweetie. In fact, the entire song is ... as you can hear when the Fijians take over the singing.

That's because it's not Hawaian! It's inspired from a Fijian song, called Bula Malaya.

@CrazyFellaFiji : I think it is not "Bula Malaya" ... but “Bula Lā’ie” ( “Hello Lā’ie” )
