My boss moaned at me at first when I tuned into Radio 1 to get these two. But by the end of the week he was hooked. He used to crack his miserable face every time he heard "Is it woorf owt!??!" We both stopped and just stood laughing at the air when Classic Cuts came on.

They were getting fed up of the Radio 1 playlist. Although they did say they weren't getting "divorced" and would work on other projects together, we are still waiting with baited breath. I think that Lord Lard of Levenshulme should stand in when Maconie is on holiday.
bacon is partially right in that they were getting pissed off with the playlist - there were often times when they would simply cut a record short after a few seconds and move on - something that didn't go down too well with the heirarchy at radio 1. however they were summoned to a meeting (they even said they had one on air) and basically told that radio 1 wanted to connect more to it's target audience and were given notice to quit the show.
Carry on!!! I reckon the BBC should shoot Steve Wright and get these two guys back on. My afternoons are meaningless now. I've nothing to do but work and miss laughing like a bloody drain at these two.
