Correct, 'mratfauver'. Had this been the original version, the credits would have featured Lyn Murray's closing theme, and the words in "typewriter script" (as they appeared during the first two seasons).
Because "The Christmas Story" was repeated TWICE (December 1968, on "DRAGNET 1969", and and December 1969, on "DRAGNET 1970") after its original telecast. This is the repeat....
The whole world will be waiting for "Dragnet 1969:Season 3" on DVD. Who Knows? "Dragnet 1970:Season 4" could also be available on DVD by June 2011 ... if the predictions become right.See You Later!!
@jsrosa1282 - The credits also list Bobby Troup (the band leader) who is famous for writing the song Route 66: "Get your kicks on Route Sixty-Six!" Bobby Troup later played Dr. Joe Early on Emergency! (another Jack Webb production). Troup was married to Julie London, after she divorced Jack Webb. Ms. London played nurse Dixie McCall on Emergency! as well.
@libralibrarian It creeped me out too when I was little. Dont watch it in a dark room. i found out that those hands and the hammer belonged to JACK WEBB. MARK VII was a production company owned by Webb.
I wonder if anyone will post second logo variant the logo for the season and for Dragnet 1970 which is really 1969-1970. Even the fall of 1969 epoisodes will say Dragnet 1970.
i hope that Universal doesn't ever replace its old logos like paramount/desilu tv and columbia..shame on them..they should just show the original logos and if they wish, show the new logos.
Unfortunately Universal already has replaced them with the NBC/Universal Television Studio & Distribution logos...Yeah it's sort of a sad day for logos now but Sony & NBC/Universal are the only logos to me that bring back that old feeling of the 80's logos...I'm not too fond of the new Paramount or should I say the new CBS Paramount Television logo, it just does'nt have the old school feel to it.
This episode was repeated twice after its initial December 1967 airing (on "DRAGNET: 1968"), and the credits were always "updated" each season it was on. The opening was from the last showing ["DRAGNET: 1970"], and the closing credits from the second ["DRAGENET: 1969"]. Since this print was "struck" from a repeat, the original 1967 credits are in limbo...or in NBC/Universal's vaults.
I thought that was why the credits were like that. There is a Christmas episode of "Happy Days" from its first season that was repeated during its third season and had the credits updated.
Universal Studios is excellent on keeping old logos intact instead of plastering them over with more recent logos, whether they are movies or TV series.
Very, VERY, VERY rarely do you ever see Universal TV plaster their logos.
They sometimes use their jingles in odd spots at times on some shows.
EX: The Rockford Files 1974 pilot ep.?, not only has the 2nd opening theme in place of the 1st opening theme, but also has the 1978 jingle plastering over the 1974 jingleA w/ the 1974 Universal TV logo in place.
According to his autobiography, "Growing Up Brady", Barry admits that his appearance in this episode led to him getting a guest shot in another Webb series, Adam-12.
Gary also had the honours of being in the last original Twilight Zone episode filmed (but not aired) called 'Come Wander With Me'. And he looked like Papa Bing a lot.
Sounds like "Dragnet March", this theme, got nicked. But not how you think!
Remember the part where the Millenium Falcon gets pulled into the Death Star? John Williams must've been influenced by this.

In the episode that introduced the recurring
character of Officer Ed Wells, played by
Gary Crosby. It was called A Dead Cop
Can't Help Anybody and it aired on NBC
on March 8, 1969.

What Webb said exactly was 'why don't we get that geeky kid from the Christmas Story for this part?'. I cracked up when I read that!

Yea. it says 1967 on the copyright stamp I noticed that to. Strange that there is 3 different years for one episode
