What can we do with a Floyd Rose?

I use a 'free floating' Floyd Rose Tremolo (on a Floyd Rose Discovery Guitar). I use it profusely in my playing style. For example, in this solo:

There is probabily about 40+ tremolo effects, most you can't hear unless you know what you listening for. I like to add subtle note variations, slight pulls and 'pushes'.

It takes getting used to holding the 'trem' all the time, since you hand is 'free floating' as well.

One neat trick during a solo is instead of playing a normal 'finger' note two frets lower, is to skip it and substitute a 2 step tremolo drop instead; keep it in time. It will add somenice variation.

Also, instead of a full finger bend, do 1/2 a bend with your finger(s) and add the other half of the bend with the tremolo arm. You get more sustain and makes a nice combo with some tremolo arm vibrato.

Try multiple finger bends over an increasing tremolo arm bend.

Experiment !

They call it a recessed tremolo. They either cut the wood out like you guys mention or there is the lion claw which is only found on the jem guitars. I like the look of that better than just a big hole. Anyway, to check out some awesome floyd usage look into steve vai and joe satriani. There are countless others but those are my 2 favorites. Have you guys seen the new roland g3 pickups or the graphtech floyds? It's hooked up to midi and you can get some really cool sounds out of it.

Yeah its a regular floyd rose just with no wood behind it, you can still pull up, but not as much as one with the chunk of wood removed. I cannot remember what they're called, but i guess it helps the sustain a little too. I dont really see much point in them if you cant pull up totally, might aswell just get a standard tremolo or a fixed bridge.

well on a normal one you can pull really high up, but on one like that you can pull up just a little, and all you do for tuning is unscrew the nuts at the headstock and tune the guitar manually like that. Then once it's in tune, lock the nuts back so theyre tightened back up again and then on the floyd rose should be litle black circles known as fine tuners, and you simply use them to accuratly tune the guitar.

you're not supposed to use a bigsby that much though lol. Bigsbys are simply for people who are too lazy to do normal string bends so they have a massive bar to do it, lol.

Its not a real floyd rose, Is a licenced under fender. Used on a jackson, which aparently fender owns. And Floyds were invented in Germany, I have on my stratocaster.

actually it doesn't. this isn't an ibanez. not from what i can tell that is. its the wrong shape to be joe's signature, wrong kind of bridge too. the Ibanez that Joe plays has an edge pro locking system. The pickups are clearly different too.

no you cant. with strat whammys or something similar like a strat whammy, you cant have such a range where your strings are completely slaggy and have no tension to them anymore. nor can pull up on the whammy and raise the pitch instead of just lowering the pitch. Floyd rose whammys rarely go out of pitch. when it does, then its barely noticeable, the only way you can, is by bending the string with your fingers by a rediculous amount

i have a guitar from the same company (Charvel) and they make it so their Floyd roses can only go down because thats how they were originally meant to be, and it adds so much more sustain.

And i agree with you he can do so much more even with his type of tremolo, but hey if you already know how to do it then post a video because i would like to see someone go insane with a tremolo that only goes down.
