I have both this knife and the ultimate survival knife. I own many knives, and these two are by far my favorite. The hardened steel blades hold an edge very well. I use a ceramic sharpening pole, and it works great to get the knives sharp enough shave edge. I used the ultimate survival knife to kill a pit bull that was trying attack my 3 yr old daughter while we went for a walk in our neighborhood. He didn't last long. He bit my left forearm, so I plugged him in the belly 3X's.It workedwell

I carry a SOG Flash II daily. I also have most of this line of knives. They're tighter and smoother than my SOG.  I wish there was a Bear Grylls spring assist option.

I'm not surprised at all that this Gerber knife has zero play.

In 1977 I bougt a Gerber folding knife, I still am in possession of it.,

My knife has zero play to this day.

I have carried it off and on for those 34 years.

I plan to purchase 1 of these newer knives, only because it is light weight.

Mine contains much brass and has wood for the grips, and doesn't have the blade device that easilly opens the knife.

If I own the knew knife the same amount of years, I'll be 85 years of age !

Crap steel,they never name it in ANY ads I've seen. Probably 6513 steel.

Barley stainless, horrible edge holding,blah,blah,blah.

Spend a few dollars more and by a Spyderco knife on E-Bay or Walmart. Quality steel and made in GOLDEN,COLORADO USA. It will outlive you most likely.

i had the exact same knife by gerber only the handle was different. i bought it for the same price. it held a pretty good edge but was very brittle. i actually snapped off 3\4 of an inch popping out my cell phone battery. i have searched for the type of steel the blade is but every site just says "high carbon stainless steel" . if the grade of stainless steel is not stated it means its not very good

It seems ok as easy duty edc or first knife present for kids, so they can brag about having an original bear grylls knife. I'm also pretty sure this is the market targeted by Gerber. Survival labeled items that will probably never be used in a survival situation.

I've owned about 5 Gerbers, and all of them i still have, and they are all wonderful knives. Gerber maked cheap quality knives. All of them folders, and one FAST assist.
