  • for what kind of job u use this strong truck?

why u need this, just for fun or really puling some things...? :D

  • Don't they do delivery? :D

  • Sounds that bitch has one hell of a turbo... DETROIT DIESEL FTW

  • Is the screaming engine noise from the big truck having a broken tranny, or just the little trucks normal sound?

  • Duh. My info was based upon a recent Oshkosh video, which details the latest model, which has the hybrid drive.

  • Some comments here are related to the HEMTTs predecessor which was more conventional

  • The HEMTT does not have a transmission. It is a hybrid electric drive. Must have been another component rather than a transmission.

  • LIKE A BOSS

  • Long live the mighty 8v92! It could be one of the longest production V8 diesels today.

  • WHAT-THE-HELL-IS-THAT?

  • @dma251 whats the price of this? realy like to buy a new 8x8 truck :) . my MAN KAT1 is a bit old :(

  • thats one big toy, what does 1 do with it?

  • I used to drive one of these in the Army. I hauled AMG's, RG's, and Patriot Missiles.

  • There was a version of the hemtt the Marines used called a LVS - it was essentially an Oshkosh HEMTT that could uncouple in the center and seperate into a seperate trailer/power unit. The Power unit can be driven by itself, but not fast or far.

Yes, the HEMTT would require a CDL to operate, IF you care much about things like that. I have a healthy distaste for authority and bureaucracy, and have driven this truck and several others MANY MANY miles without a CDL and have a good attorney.

  • @dma251 That is a cool truck. I drove the LVS in the Marine Corps. The one I drove was the Mk48/16, which was the tractor trailer version. I think one of the coolest features that set the two apart was, the LVS has a hydraulically articulating frame between the power unit and the rear unit. This came in handy when you didn't have a whole lot of room to maneuver. You just turn the steering wheel and the whole cab would move to the direction you wanted it too.

  • @dma251 hell yeah!! ye ha

  • Wasent there a version of the hemmt where the cab could be detached in case of attack

  • So to my understanding that makes it a class8 heavy truck and therefore requiring a full cdl to drive

  • Wouldnt a tranny in some thing like this cost an arm and a leg?

  • one bad ass truck. you needed to put on the sticker that says. "Yes this is my truck! no, I will not help you move..."

  • brought back many-many fond memories of driving one of these when I was in artillery support. 1/14 FA SVC BTRY. Thank-you for thw post

  • Is that a Class 6 (19,501 to 26,000 pounds) or Class 7 (26,001 to 33,000 pounds) vehicle? Just wondering..Want to get a MAN 8x8 or Tatra 815...was curious if I had to get a CDL and Motor Carrier insurance to drive it on the road..

  • @Vulcancom

The truck weighs 40,000 lbs. empty, with a GCVWR of 100,000 combined payload and trailer. Substancially heavier then either a Tatra or a MAN

  • Do you know what kind of HEMTT you had? A2? A3?

  • That's one screamin' demon!!

  • wow Washington is beautiful. i need to move out of shit hole pennsylvania and live there

  • Detroit Diesel? Sounds like it!

  • Der Motorsound hört sich furchtbar an !!!

  • Two thumbs up on your truck. Wish I have one. I wonder how they are compared to Tatra?

  • @mdxndy kinda poorly. You have more choices with a tatra in engine, trans., etc.

Hemmit has live axle, tatra has full swingaxle independent suspension, and hemtt is water-cooled, tatra is usually air-cooled. Tatra is also tubular backbone, hemtt is just a ladder frame. Tatra's are a lot stronger overall but lower in technology.

  • you shoulda ran over that prius

  • how much did that truck cost you

  • Run over the slow cars with it!!

  • ha!....so u got it on ebay huh....holly crap a bit of research online and u can buy nukes now days.

  • man that had to suck ass driving that thing with an high rpm in reverse through curving roads

  • holy shit dude i know RIGHT were you are!!!! that's awesome ur like 5 min from my house!!!! wish i would've been in the right place at the right time!

  • Awesome truck.. where were they built?

  • was traffic backed up?

  • not sure why you are asking this, but no traffic really. This is rural Washington, where traffic hasn't become a problem, yet....

  • only reason i asked was didnt know if anyone was wondering why the truck was going backwards

  • @josephhoffman89 lol BACKed up

  • That's awesome. Where in the world did you manage to find a HEMTT? I thought we (the Army) doesn't sell these to civilians. I was thinking about getting a M35 or M1008 to toy around with for the summer, but havn't quite made my decision on either or.

  • Bought totalled on Ebay 4 years ago for $26K.... Another $40K or so to get it done.... No idea how it slipped out, but it is legal with title, insurance, etc. There are a couple out there. Seriously, only a couple. I recently sold it for $75K and that was a moderate price. I've seen them for much more. Not much less, though.

  • Yeah, after watching the video I did a search with Google. I was actually really surprised to find them out there. I was talking to my Commander a while ago and asked if any of them have ever been sold, and he told me we're not allowed to sell battle capable ones.

  • @dma251 now why the hell did you do that?!?!?!?! you obviously know how hard it would to be to replace as well as how unique it is.......i wouldve been buried in that sucker if it was mine

  • @dma251 a brand new HEMTT A4 cargo with a cat C15 diesel and Allison 4500 and air ride suspension will run you about $216,000 a new HEMTT wrecker...... well that's another story haha

  • @toyoracing89 You can buy them from their website... The military doesnt make off the the items they make or use... They may test them but not make them...

  • I dont understand why these vehicles arent being used instead of MRAPs which are replacing the HUMM-Vs

  • Well, several reasons really. HEMTTs cost at least twice what an MRAP costs, and they are too big and heavy for what the MRAP is needed for, which is urban patrol and multi-purpose use. HEMTT's are not well protected from mines, eaither. They lack the v-shaped hull the MRAP uses to deflect blasts.

  • Detroit Diesel power!!!

  • and i approve of this comment!

  • do you regret selling it at all?

  • Oh sure, a bit, but most of the joy is in the building of it. Once that is done, I get bored. It was really fun to cruise around in, but it costs a lot to feed it, and there is always that nagging fear that what happens if the engine fails, or an axle chews itself up.... THose things would be beyond my budget to repair. The transmission put me on the edge financially for this project.

It's got a great new home with a really good owner, who will let me see it whenever I want.

  • Thats always good, what kind of fuel milage did you get with it? i know from driving the ones in my unit the gas gauge goes down pretty fast. yeah unfortunately allison automatics aren't cheap as im sure you know!

  • about 3 mpg. 155 gallon tank, and it'll take you about 350 miles before it's time to fill it up.

  • hey i got 2 questions if you dont mind,

    1) do you need a special license to drive it (HGV etc)

    2) do you have trouble parallel parking?

    Thanks

  • no and no. Not in Washington anyway. It is not a commercial vehicle by Washington State RCW guidelines. It would fall into the catagory more similar to a motorhome.

Parallel parking? Its no trouble at all, I just rolled over the car in front and behind. They act as wheel chocks!

  • Hi, I am up the road from you in Anacortes. Could you fill me in on how you licensed it. I have an M35A2 and was told because of it's weight it had to be a commerical vehicle.

  • That's complete bullshit. Just license it as a collector vehicle - it meets all the requirements, plus then your insurance is going to be only like $100 - $150 a year. If you need collector vehicle insurance, try Haggertys or State Farm. That's who did all mine. Then you're 100% legal WITHOUT a CDL. Lots of folks have done this.

  • Standard m35's come in under the max GVR and have brakes that are compliant with state law saying you do NOT have to have a CDL to drive them.

  • this is freakin insane, not only how badass this truck is but BACKING it up like that lmao. I see below that the engine is an 8v92TA. until I read that I thought I heard a 12v71. I would not feel guilty owning one just for fun, but do you use it for other than having a blast? heh.

  • I test drove one when the USMC had just received them. Hard to get one stuck. Anybody got a vid of detaching the cab and body?

  • That is a slightly different model that detaches. It is called an LVS, or Dragon Wagon. Almost the same, but thy articulate in the middle and have the radiator on top of the engine instead of in front of it.

  • what happened at 3:39 where the guy says"Aww you're shittin me!"?

  • He was trying to stay behind me, but a car got between us for a bit.

  • How high was that thing winding? It really screams.I'm guessing only about 2.5k rpm though.

  • about 2400-2500 rpm... The Detroits love to rev. In fact the worst thing you can do to a 2-stroke detroit is lug it.

  • That thing must have immense amounts of torque.

  • haha i dont want one. i work for oshkosh fixing these. i have enough military vehicles.

  • damn man i know the trannies in those suck i had one blow on me in bagdad damn pos the thing broke in half

  • The transmissions are actually really strong, what sucks is that the Army refused to run the fluid that the transmission was built to run - ATF. The military wants to run 15w-40 engine oil in EVERYTHING. Even the transmission and crane/steering hydraulic system... That's why there has been so much trouble with with it.

  • That was the original problem they had with m-16's in Vietnam. They were designed for one specific powder, but the army used what they wanted to, so they had nothing but trouble.

  • It wasn't just that, it was the fact that the M16 didn't have a chrome lined barrel so it could rust if it wasn't properly maintained.

  • @scythelord No, actually the millitary used the older M14 cartridges in them (those are what the 5.56 round is based on) which had a powder that burned less cleanly. Over time, soot in the blowback would clog internal parts, usually in the trigger mechanism

  • Seen ur tag on steelsoldiers, does that thing have a hemi? lol. Serious question though-is there a configuration with the crane behind the cab as opposed to the tail end?

  • No hemi, but 450 hp and about 1400 ft/lbs of torque seem to get the job done! There have been many configurations, the tractor and wrecker versions had similar cranes mounted behind the cab.

  • how much does it cost you? can it be exported to foreing countries?

  • Hemtt's in this condition sell for $70-$90K. If you can find one, that is. There is a huge demand, and virtually no supply. I don't know if they can be exported, but I wouldn't sell one outside the USA personally. I am sure it is possible, but it would be a hassle for sure.

  • and did you get possesion of the HEMTT?

  • Ebay

  • detroit diesel?

  • Yes. Detroit 8V92TA with an Allison HT750CRD 5-speed, not the original 4-speed auto.

  • I heard that Oshkosh was trying to buy up as many of these as possible to keep them out of Civvy hands. Thats a nice one too. Flatbed, knuckle crane and gun turret mount. Sweet! Definitely cooler than a sack full of hand grenades! Got to play with these in Iraq back in the day.

  • Oshkosh has repeatedly been awarded contracts to take ALL hemtts from the military in any condition, and they rebuild them to new spec with the latest stuff. The earlier hemtts became bridge transporters, and now they are making palletized load handling trucks. That is why there are none surplused. It's a gov. contract that gives Oshkosh exclusive rights to all the damaged and worn out hemtts. The aren't specifically trying to keep them out of civvy hands.

  • ain't this in fort chaffee, Arkansas ?????

  • Nope, Arlington Washington (state)... In my little neighborhood...

  • Cool truck! How would you get your hands on such a unique vehicle?

  • answer the call of duty ... pick the 88M MOS and have fun

  • I realize it is a vehicle used by the military but this one looks like it is privately owned.

  • Ebay...

  • how much was it?

  • nah 63B haha

  • h8 and you get the cooler hemtt's

  • Wow, what a truck, never heard of these Oshkosh trucks before. Are they american? The company name sounds somewhat strange imo.

  • Ya. American military. The Oshkosh truck company is named after the town it is based in. Oshkosh Wisconsin. The town got it's name from the Native American Chief Oshkosh of the Menominee Indian tribe.

  • Do you have any idea what i I would do for one of those? all my muddin buddys would shit tons of bricks if I rolled up in one of these beasts

  • wheres your ground guide... hahaha. awesome video man. i fuckin love the hemmt

  • holy shit i cant believe you just said that! i was about to have a motor t flashback.

  • Good ole OshKosh!

  • sounds like some pretty bad slippage...ha, tight ass rig though...I heard they got c15 cats in them too? thatd be my engine of choice, detroits are still a beast though...

  • what kind of engine does your hemtt have in it? sounds like a detroit

  • Detroit Diesel 8V92TA - one of the sweetest sounding diesels ever....
