I used to listen to Jackson Browne sing now and then at a tiny club in Orange, CA. We were way too young to go inside, so we hid outside the door to listen. I remember a song from that experience -- something about the ride "Laughing Lottie" at the Long Beach Pike amusement park. When Browne became popular, the lyrics appeared in a teen magazine, but I never saw it on an LP. Anyone know where I can find a copy of this song by Browne?
@drhistorical1 This track is from Jackson's first album, "Saturate before using"
The complete album track list is as follows. 1. Jamaica Say You Will 3:24 2. A Child In These Hills 3:59 3. Song For Adam 5:23 4. Doctor My Eyes 3:19 5. From Silver Lake 3:52 6. Something Fine 3:48 7. Under The Falling Sky 4:09 8. Looking Into You 4:19 9. Rock Me On The Water 4:12 10. My Opening Farewell 4:44
I listen to rap mainly. Not the radio stuff, the hardcore underground hip hop... Jackson Browne is so soulful I sit and listen for hours almost in a trance! This is music in such a pure form! ONE
Ya know he reminds me of my little brother. A very shy guy who plays amazing keyboards and stand up bass when he wants to. Gorgeous song but I suppose we've come to expect that from Jackson. Dude, your songs are written into my funeral service - not because they're sad but because they celebrate life!
Such beautiful guitar work. That sense of standing outside yourself, seeing the pain, but at the same time, having a smile at yourself for the melodrama. (Oh that's much too old a story to believe.) Probably my favourite beside "Late for the Sky".
The gentleness and reflectiveness of this song always has moved me deeply. i never found a kareoke version of this song so I had to have the dj play the song so I could sing this song for others at the bars I used to go to. Thanks Mr. Browne for something fine.
I have to say that I love Jackson Browne. He was my mom's favorite and he has become my favorite. I am not over-exaggerating when I say that his music has saved my life.
@Cali4yaDreaming he wrote his first song, "These Days"at 16- which was recorded by other well known groups, and got a record contract at age 17, and released his first album titled "Jackson Browne" in 1972 at age 24
@QueenBeatlesWings Funny..but HE himself said he wrote the music at 16. He was in his 20's when he finished the song with these words. I think I will believe Jackson on this one. After all..WHOTF are you?
@QueenBeatlesWings Jackson Browne said on stage that he wrote the MUSIC to this song at the age of 16..the words were written in his early 20's. Tell Jackson himself what you think..see what he says.
Not time travel, cause we all are where we want to be, just like them po folks in Egypt, God Bless Em ! Jackson has always been a troublemaker, a revlutionary. The world is constantly changing and Oh people look among you, it's there your hope must lie... is as good advice now as it was 35 years ago. Make the world the place you want your kids to own
ABSOLUTELY MEZMERIZING~~~~~~~this man is a true UNDERATED by all GENIOUS!!! I was fortunate to meet him in 1972 and I know my life is better for it. His ability to put words with music is amazing, there will never be another JACKSON, not even close~~~~~~~~~Jackson 4/ever~~
The mind, it's so hard to refine, even harder to define, like a scab it's better off , left alone, it'll be fine, on it's own, it comes and goes like the tide, let it ride, that's all it wants, we pedal so hard trying to catch it, and look in the rear-view mirror, it's behind us, laughing ; )
"And you know that I'm looking back carefully, because I know that there's something still there for me". How could a young man write this song - this is an older person's song. Lovely all the more.
@juliekstroup Jackson has always been wise beyond his years. he wrote his1st song ("These Days") at age 16. he got a record contract when still in his teens, and in this show he was only 28.
Thank you, RoyAl, and I agree about the song being poetry, as most of Jackson's songs are. Gotta love it! My ex used to hate it when I played JB. He'd sigh and say, "Sing us a sad one, Jackson." I just told him to go away and let me listen to my music. Of course this was 30 years ago! God rid of the man and still listen to JB
I think perhaps you're right. But, if you're not into drugs, it can easily be about something else . . . That's what makes it poetry, and a good song almost 40 years hence!
'The future hides.and the past just slides..and England lies between, floating in a silver mist..so cool and so clean..& California's shaking like an angry child well...who has asked for love and is unanswered still..and you know that I'm looking back carefully....cos I know that there's still something there for me..but you said Morocco & you made me smile..it hasn't been that easy for a long long while,& looking back into your eys .I saw them really shine, giving me a tase of something fine."
This really is time travel - it takes me back to the first audio drama I played in, 'Moon Over Morocco'.
"Something fine" was the song at the end of session and it make me think of ZBS and all the characters who played their parts. I can still see the pine tree outside the studio window.
Songs like this make time travel possible - to a certain time of your life; a certain day; a certain hour; indeed a certain minute/second...a certain feeling..a certain person..I guess it always will..
@lionsntigers Oh, Yeah.. I had tears in my eyes before I could finish reading your post. Your words are as meaningful as Jackson's. ( These words, anyways. )
@lionsntigers - I was just thinking almost the same thing ... the opening line, and I'm transported right back to my batik-draped futon in Carbon Canyon, working out the chords on my first guitar ... this song was THE reason I wanted to learn to play. Still makes me smile ... *s*
it's simply amazing how all of Jackson's songs seem to transcend time and age... they seem just as relevant when he sings them now as when he did back then. anyone can relate, no matter how old or young you are! that's rare
The word "dirge" doesn't really apply here. The artist presents an expression of nostalgia, with a sense of "unrequitedness". Quite different from "dirge"...almost lugubrious though.
In any event, a beautiful performance of a great piece of music.
I MEANT to say Durst, not Fred Durst, can't stand that little no-talent ego-maniac ; ) ...while your at it, how do you spell "derrigable" ?..is that something like a lead Zipperlin ?
Actually, has anyone heard Jackson's live album simply called "Volume 2"? He sings this song plus many others unplugged. THAT version must be heard to be believed! Plus the song "My lovely mystery companion" - words cannot describe...
This is my very Fav. Jackson Browne song! It got me to buy the album/LP so many yrs ago! The "Old Grey Whistle" show had such vision!! Thanks for posting this wonderful vid.

I'm looking back carefully and I always know there's still something fine when I listen to Jackson's music. He always knows how to capture an emotion just right in his lyrics.
I've been to Morocco, its absolutely BEAUTIFUL, this song so fits the mood you feel while your there, it really is an experience of a LIFETIME! This song is an absolute GEM, it is one of those songs that takes you somewhere in your mind that you know is SPECIAL, that is BITTERSWEET, you can almost TASTE it, SMELL it, TOUCH it, KISS it, it is RIGHT THERE in FRONT of YOU, HE painted a MASTERPIECE!
Dreams are rollin' down across the places in my mind...Oh, Jackson, it sure hasn't been that easy in a long, long while. You and Joni and JJ Cale and Dylan were the soundtrack of my '70s youth.Such sweet memories, such sweet delusions. Where did it all go? For a short while we were allowed to wander in the Garden of Eden, then we were exiled from it. World outside tugging like a begger at our sleeves...
Wow!..never thought I'd be nostalgic for the 70's..what I'd give today for a blonde Ketama bowling ball of 00...fairly certain its no longer 50 cents a gram!... it is so nice to find a page of pure joy and not one filled with the teenage fascism one finds on most youtube pages . Thanks for posting
