The way Muller makes it sound, you'd think it'd be extremely difficult to trace back the divergence problem. In reality, however, it's mentioned several times not only in the literature, but also in the basic textbook I have in front of me (Cronin's Paleoclimates). It's subject to an ongoing debate about the reliability of a certain subset of proxy records. It's disingenuous to imply that this was somehow done in the dark.

Mrs. or Mz. Tom's initial response is interesting. The first thing she does is attack how the emails were obtained. Clearly the scientist where not complying with freedom of information request SO how else would this story have broke?
