I saw them perform in the early 70's, Heart was the opening band. The music of L & M has always stayed with me, and experiencing the spiritual feelings walking among the giant trees, living beings thousands of years old instantly recalled this song.

I saw them do this on their farewell tour at Blossom Music Center. This song live was unbelieveable when done live. The instrumentals had such energy. I wore out three cassette copies of Finale back in the day LOL. I wish that album would be reissued so I could get a good live version of this song.

i remember seeing them in the 70s at the mississippi river festival. i understand the band was going thru some changes, but they put on one great concert. perhaps the best i've seen maybe.

@izzzzzzzzzzie Yes, it was Messina's ranch and the whole album was recorded in the living room directly to a 48 track reel to reel. They had to keep doing retakes because the dog would bark or someone would flush a tiolet. LOL No fancy mixers or anything here. Straight into the recorder! This song speaks to the great talent and genius of these men.

Thank you for sharing this. I was lucky enough to see them in 1976 at the Celebrity In The Round Theater in Tempe AZ (or, was it Scottsdale,AZ...no difference really)

What happened to music? To pop music? I listen to the complexity and creativity behind this one cut and I find no modern equivalent. This music here was not synthetic. Those were actual instruments that created that sound. Sorry to rant, but I...sigh

Saw them in Cincinnatti a couple of years ago. Drove up from Nashville after work and was a little late. They, of course were awesome, The only dissappointment was that Jon Clarke was no longer with them. Sad to hear of his death.

I remember them performing this song live on stage in San Diego in their last tour as a duo while promoting their "Native Sons" album. It was as awesome as it is here, with mandolins, a soprano sax, their beautiful harmonic vocals, great key and tempo changes and perfect musicianship! Thank you for the great post in stereo and the fantastic accompanying photos! Aren't they great!

This was one of the theme songs of my youth. I eventually did run away to the rivers and trees of the Appalachian Trail for 6 months. I'll finally settle in the Eden of my youth in the near future, and Loggins & Messina will have a star in my hall of fame.
