@nationalguard is it possible to enter Active Duty Army as an MP AFTER the years a National Guardsmen serves are complete? I am really considering joing the Guard when Im 17 and after I finish getting my degree, I want to be an MP in the Army.and eventually become CID
Can someone explain to me what some of the differences between this, and the USAF security forces are? I want to join the military and do a law enforcement job, I just can't decide which branch I should join.
@overtime2222 The major difference would be that one is Army and the other is Air Force. As for Army National Guard Military Police, they know Common Soldier tasks and field tactics but, specialize in their garrison training to pull security, be law enforcement, and so on. For more information on Military police in the National Guard, check out the National Guard's website!
@overtime2222 Go with the Air Force Security Forces, the Air Force Security Forces are trained much better than the Army. For more info contact your local recruiter. Aim High... Fly, Fight, Win.
I heard that an MP also fights in the battlefield. Can one enlist as an MP and just do police duties? I want to be a cop and i heard that joining the military increases my chances of being selected.
I see the Army has changed the MOS numbers. It used to be that "31" was the branch code for MP Officers and "95" for enlisted personnel. 95B was run of the mill MP, while 95D were the correctional MPs. 95C was CID ( I think) . On the officer side, 31A was regular MP commissioned officers, while 31C was for those assigned to the CID district or field office. There was no correctional speciality for the officers.
Not to mention many major cities Police Departments will not consider your MP skills as prior experience. Take it from an MP. Mp's will basically be combat support. there isn't much civil law enforcement type duties anymore. You will get that combat patch fast tho. Choose am MOLS that sounds fun. All military get basically the same veteran status for experience in law enforcement.
Since when do ARNG MP's do all that on the two days of the month they Drill? I have been an MP for about a year and a half now, and not once have we driven a Patrol Car, Restrained anyone, or anything of the sort. I'm thinking this video is taking people in the wrong direction. And they didn't even begin to talk about the deployments. This guy is obviously active duty. Enough Said.
And here all we did was patrol the 'ville', get shot at by little VC wannabes, and pull drunken GI's out of off-limits bars. Never knew 'bout all this other stuff!
One can not enlist straight into an AGR position, but can enlist in as a 31B Military Police if all requirements are met. Feel free to click on our "Talk to a Soldier" Tab and chat with a live Hero on Call Soldier for more information.
@GateGuard100 If you want to be a full time MP go active duty. AGR positions are hard to get and they are specific jobs with specific rank requirements.
@GateGuard100 yes u can be in any (active, reserve, guard) and sign up to be an MP. Im an active MP but my battle buddy is in the National Guard so which ever u want to do. GO ACTIVE!! lol its a lot more fun..
i really want to join but i keep getting low scores in the asvab i already took it twice one with the marines i other with the army i guess military isnt for me
@Niccers First all police officers are trained to do this, not just the national guard. Now think about this, would you rather be behind the door which could potentially stop the bullet or make it less fatal, or out in the open? Also, the guy who is shooting at you may not try to shoot because the door is in front of you; they might think it is guaranteed protection. I'll choose to stay behind the door, you can stand out in the open.
@PackerFan7485 but mps also do infantry type of missions. I've read that MP is becoming to be more "Multi purpose" since they can do so much besides law enforcement
@Niccers the us military wrote the books on absolutely everything you know as a civilian. i must seriously doubt movies had much to do with their doctrines.
To anyone that is thinking about joining the Armed Forces as a Military Police Officer, it is an amazing career choice. Yes, there is a reason I wear a Ranger Roll. Local Law Enforcement does like to see MP's join their departments.
does the national guard leave the United States? I would be really interested in joining to add yet another expierence i have leading to my Law Enforcement Career with the NYPD.
just know, National Guard is basically like the Army Reserves, only differences, the Reserves are run by the Gov't, Guard is run by the State, and with the Reserves you can get pulled out and be deployed anywhere anytime, in the Guard only in the U.S. and if you get deployed outside the U.S. you can't be redeployed outside for another 5 years.
other than that, they pretty much reserves.
PLUS, 68% of troops in afghanistan are Guard+Reserves.
@specialforces69 every unit has different missions. You should check with your unit to see what missions they have completed in the past and what they are capable of so you know what to expect on deployment.
@babyboyrox01 dude even if your 17 you still have to graduate and get a diploma.
im in the dep waiting for my diploma and im 18. but yeah my recruiter just switched me from marine security forces to military police. i cant wait. so good on you.
@MercedesCars454 you should ask your local Recruiter what training seats are available in your area. OSUT is a good program as it lets you knock out all your training quickly and in one place!
Ok thanks. I heard about OSUT training and thats probably what I`m going to do. I have to get MEPS over with. I have had a sketchy medical history in the past but I think I should be ok now because im as healthy as I can be now
@MercedesCars454 yes eveyone does. but its really not bad after a while you know how DS(drill sergeants) work and it seems easier. all i can say is DO IT!!
I plan to join 31B in the Army Reserve as soon as I graduate with a degree in Administration of Justice from college next year. I'm doing very well. I'm confident about using the Reserve to further my police training.
@DrewDawg50 You sign up, you know your going to be deployed sooner or later. Don't kid your self into thinking you won't. It's service to country. Still don't have my MEPS date yet but I'm hoping to go 35F Army Reserves.
Go Enlisted, and do the Army's online college. The "College Expierence" is extremely overrated. As an Enlisted 31 Bravo, you get more expierence, daily work, more of a chance to do investigations, and learn more on how to work on a Global Scale, on top of that, NYC has a "Police Force" that is specalized in Anti-Terrorism, who tend to hire MP's and Airforce Security, even over Special OPS.
Or enlist for 5 years, go to a 4 year college after enlistment, then join the FBI
Parabellum, You have great points and I understand. Im mentioning Army here not USMC. I live 2 mins from FT Lewis WA. When the MP's deploy, DOD Police take over. You know ,the old retirees. They also use Pvt Contractors at the gates. Im not making it up. Agree that young man in vid must enjoy.. I is a recruiting tool. I like viewing too! Just saying what I see and know. I served at FT Lewis, 101 ABN Campbell, 2nd MP co Korea, as well as in Europe. All as an MP... Take Care!
The only reason i said that is becouse I recently took a trip to Aberdeen proving grounds in MD and all of the security was done by local PD same as Shaw AFB in south carolina.Maybe its an army thing?God bless you and your service bro.
He needs to ditch the hat. When I got out of the Military Police and went into Civillian Law enforcement They could care less about my Miltary time.. Sad but true....Its a different generation now. My son is now a police officer and didnt have to do any of that. Be aware that alot of the Patrol Police stuff on post gets done by contractors.. You go overseas to fight..
Lot's of times having military police experience can be seen as a liabilty for the civilian departments. As you said, it's a different generation.
For everyone reading, some civilian departments don't want Criminal Justice majors or military police, because you're competing against several others with the same background. Set yourself apart from the others.
Also, most bases are going federal employees to do police and security, while some use contractors.
Maybe he enjoys it? My experience in the marines gave me first pick and priority over others who tried to become state troopers. And most of the on base patrol is not done by contractors but by local police.
that is wut we in the Army call a Ranger Roll...he may have been a Ranger (wouldnt know bc "MP" covers the velcro where the "Ranger" tab would go), got injured and was medically reclassed (new MOS) into 31B. Usually only the INF knows about that kind of roll
lots of people do it now a days .... i dont know why i see it on a lot of people coming fresh out of AIT .... ive never done i ton purpose except when me and a guy with the same last name got our covers mixed up ......mp's can now go to ranger school now so know knows
