The American breed called Bombay was bred in 1958 in Louisville, Kentucky, when Nikki Horner of Shawnee Cattery deliberately bred an American Shorthair with a Burmese for the purpose of creating a domesticated cat that resembled a "miniature black panther".[2] This earned the Bombay the nickname "parlor panther". American Bombays have copper or golden eyes, and a jet-black coat. Occasionally, a Bombay kitten may be born sable colored, because of its relation to the Burmese.

I have the same cat...and he makes the same noises EVERYTIME he jumps down from something and when you pick him up suddenly. Hes a bombay...american shorthair mixed with Bermese

I don't know if he is or not. He is a very large cat, and has a little white on his chest as well as on his abdomen...it looks like he's wearing a bikini haha.

@MiniSpeilberg the white on its chest disqualifies it from being a bombay, and bombays usually are quieter and tend to have a distinctive "meow"

@MiniSpeilberg Actually the Bombay is all black. Its called the 'miniature panther' of the cat world. This one looks like a standard American Shorthair.
