how this song didn't make the rattle and hum movie is beyond me. it is an absolute classic. if greg carrol can here this song he would be so proud to have such an unbelievable song written in his memory. i listen to this song over and over and it gets better.

The reason they never performed red hill mining town was in pre joshua tree rehearsals bono could never hit the high notes so they scrapped it.

truely excellent one my top U2 classic songs with out a doubt......always wondered why if they could play this terrific song from 87 why they never did perform "Red hill mining town"? I really do belive the band could actually perform that song {if they ever did it would be history for them} similar to One Tree hill

This is my all-time favourite U2 song, and not just because of the New Zealand connection (although that's part of why I love it). The melody and the lyrics are so powerful. In particular, the lines "The moon is up and over One Tree Hill / We see the sun go down in your eyes" are extremely poignant. It really is a true piece of poetry, this song. It speaks to you on a number of different levels.
