wow great for you!!! that truly inspirational vidio for the rest of ppl who try to get th. these exams. I cannot believe your strength and determination. Very inspiring !!!
In the end you are a registered licensed attorney. I know why you cried at the end of the video. I too have put a lot of time into my studies and love the feeling of accomplishment. Most of the comments on here are from idiots who never even applied to college. I have read how the bar exam is read and graded and most of it is luck. They grade each person in under two minutes. Sad thing is you most likely deserved to pass your first time but they didnt observe your writings quick enough. Congrats
She went to a hlaf-assed law school and now instead of practicing law runs a program for other loosers. At least she's not like that guy in LA who took it 63 times.
Anyone knocking this woman is an idiot and an asshole. First the poor lady after the third time was probably not sleeping, eating or feeling well the days the days leading up to her subsequent tests. And on test day having an anxiety attack. Second standardizing testing is no means the best way to establish a persons intelligence when it comes to the real world. So to call her dumb is unfair. Second the fact that this woman had the courage not to quit on her dreams is amazing.
Maybe you shouldn't be in a career that you can't test into for almost a decade. I know great attorneys who didn't pass the first time.. but not 13 times. I mean true, no one asks, "How many times did you take the bar?" No one asks you how many times you took a driver's license test either, but you can usually tell they didn't do well when they broadside a tree for the fourth time, no? I wouldn't trust her preparation or concentration skills. Maybe that's just me.
I am proud of her, to be sure, but honestly, she could have saved lots of money and time by simply taking a bar review course at some point in those eight years. $1,000 for BarBri in 1998 would have been a better use of her resources.
@MIvarsson99 - No, she's probably just a person who thinks in the real world and had difficulty adjusting to the made-up world of bar exam. Usually the longer one is out of law school, and away from the theory, the harder it is to pass. The bar exam is not how law is really practiced.
I challenge those who criticize to put their money where their mouth is, so to speak, and take the CA Bar. THEN talk about it. But seriously, if you need a lawyer, are you really going to ask how many times it took for that attorney to pas the Bar? of course not. Rock on to those who have passed, regardless of how man times and good luck to all those getting ready to take it in July - see you there.
Sooooo deeply, genuinely happy for you!!!! Your story brought me to tears, because I fully understand the struggles of life, and having the strength, determination and tenacity to fight on and be rewarded for it all in the end! I congratulate you for fighting the fight. You're an inspiration to us all. God bless you and your family, and may you always experience happiness!!
FAILED 13 TIMES??? Wow, i mean dont get me wrong i AM happy she finally passed but im not too sure i would want someone like that representing me in a trial. :S ill pass. lol
Congratulations!. I'm studying for it right now. Pretty awful experience. I am a little angry that law schools don't do more to prepare its students for the bar exam. It should be part of the curriculum, especially since law school is such a big investment. It just doesn't make sense that we have to take another expensive course to prepare.
!!Congratulations, I think you encourage me to try it. I am positive that you are a good Attorney because you do not hesitate to share your experiences to make somebody else strong enough to go for it without hide how many times you have to try it to make it.

@jetulik Perhaps someone who appreciates tenacity, which might likely translate to the kind of zealous representation that the code of professional responsibility asks for? At the end of the day, passing the California Bar Exam says the successful bar candidate knew enough of the law that was tested on those three days, had some measure of luck and had good test-taking skills. @jetulik maybe posting such a negative a demotivating comment was an even worse idea. Let the woman enjoy the result of her persistence. Hi five to you Paulina!
@jetulik This exam is hardly indicative of someone's actual lawyering skills. Plenty of terrible attorneys pass it, and plenty of great ones fail it. Some people have bad luck, and some people just struggle with this particular kind of brutal exam. But taking multiple attempts to pass the exam should not be taken to mean that the person is not fit to practice law.
@josbo51715 "The bar exam has nothing to do with competence" what a stupid statement. What does it have to do with then?, or any other exam for that matter if not competence in the exam material. Would you like to have a doctor operate on you who flunked out of medical school 13 times or one who passed first time?
@jetulik I can't even argue with someone as brainwashed as you are. You take things as being self-evident when they are not. There is no proof that those who pass the bar exam are more competent to practice law. The evidence is actually to the contrary. The state disciplinary agencies report over 100,000 ethics violations every year. These are licensed attorneys who violated federal and state law. And malpractice is higher now more than ever.
@jetulik we fail because of fear, not because we don't have what it takes. competence. I have a friend who had 4.0 from 1st grade til high school. graduated with honors and became a house wife because of fear. that is very common.
@jetulik Umm... the bar exam is a money making scam for the testing industry. It also allows law firms to charge egregious legal fees because the bar exam eliminates competition. It has nothing to do with competence. The bar exam does not test actually clinical skills, It test rote memorization. It actually makes attorneys less prepared for practice, Law schools teach the subjects that will be tested on the bar exam and neglect skill oriented courses.
@jetulik Are you aware that former Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Charles Evan Hughes failed the bar exam 7 times before finally passing? If the Chief Justice on the highest court in the country can fail the bar exam, why are you holding this woman to a higher standard? Furthermore, most attorneys wouldn't be able to pass the bar exam without studying the material again. They are only competent to practice law during the examination. Afterwards, they forget the material.
There's a really good website to help students improve their performance exam score (Bar Exam Doctor) You can google him "Bar Exam Doctor". You can take real performance exams online.

I passed, but it really is the hardest bar exam in the country, if not the world.
i want to talk badly about this woman, but after going through that ordeal myself, even though she had to do it 14 times, i really can't say much bad.
I'll admit it, I passed the Virginia bar on the second try. The first time, my nerves really got to me. The second time, it was a breeze, no nerves or anything at all. She's a stronger person than me, there is NO WAY I would take a bar exam 14 times. That's unbelievable. But, I'm happy for her.
@NSU224 With all do respect, you also never took the california bar exam. The most difficult 3 day bar exam in the country. You can not compare passing the Virgina exam on second attempt, to being the equivalent of passing the cal bar on second attempt.
To the young woman who finally passed--you rock. You are a force of nature.
To anyone who would criticize her--there are not enough expletives to use on you. As for logic--ain't part of the Bar. So your understanding of it is an EPIC FAIL to use your tired, silly, unoriginal Internet language.
If she wanted to do it, it is her life and she is doing what she wants.
Why don't you critics have a contribution rather than sucking joy out of life.
I am looking inward buddy, and I think this woman is not competent to be a lawyer failing the Bar 13 times. Of course the decision to pursue law seems to have destroyed her life, so it is commendable that she passed. I feel sorry for her, incurring all of that debt and living in that shitty house, with her husband having to put up with her bullshit. She should sue the shitty law school she went to. Certain people are just not cut out to be lawyers!
I think I was not in the greatest mood when I made all those comments, some of which were directed at you. Sorry about that.
You know, maybe you are right. Life really is TOO SHORT to be pushing a boulder up a hill 13 times to pass the CA bar. I know I could never have mentally survived 12 consecutive defeats. I passed on the first try, and several years later got licensed in another state via reciprocity. Thank God, no retakes for me!
I can sure as hell tell you that if she was this perseverant at passing the bar exam, you can bet that she is going to do a damn good job representing her clients and won't let them down in their time of need. I am an attorney in two states. It ain't friggin' easy to get these credentials, and anyone who thinks it is should give it a whirl and find out for themselves. I WOULD HIRE THIS WOMAN TO WORK WITH ME OR TO REPRESENT ME. Kudos to you Ms. Bandy!
I graduated from law school in 1998. I took the bar then, but got my failing MBE results after I'd gotten my job in the corporate sector. I eagerly followed bad advice to not retake the bar until I passed. I didn't take it for the second time in February 2009 and passed the essay again. I didn't pass the MBE when I took it again July '09. I take the MBE for the fourth time in 23 days (02/10). In the face of not passing, sustaining belief in myself is difficult. Thanks for posting this.
Villadumbshit! That's hilarious. When I was in LA a few years ago Villadumbshit got nailed for cheating on his wife with that Tele Mundo TV news reporter! Who in their right mind would go to an unaccredited law school unless they didn't mind struggling to pass the bar. If you go to an ABA and AALS accredited law school like I did you pass the first time... You are a sportbike guy? I must check out your channel. I want a sportbike... I haven't ridden for a very long time.
CONGRATULATIONS! Thank you so much for sharing that very moving story with all of us. I'm very impressed with the sacrifices you were willing to make to reach your goal, and am thrilled for you that you were able to. You are an inspiration to so many of us, and an example of how to succeed to the whiners out there that always have an excuse for not plowing ahead. I'm so proud of you. The best of everything to you, God bless! ~martie
@FeelFree3 No. You definitely have to go to law school, and most of the time, then take the bar exam. A handful of schools have arrangements with the state such that their graduates do not have to take the bar.
Actually, the more prestigious the school, the more they tend to not care about attendance. I attended a tier 1 school and never went to class and they didn't care. Why? Cuz they knew I'd probably pass on the first time anyway, which I did.
Yeah, and if I was a client of yours I'd fire you. There's a lot more to being a attorney than stats and grades. But in spite of being as I I'm sure "successful" as you must be, you wouldn't be able to comprehend that.
@garciare1 that's exactly what I am talking about! Some of these attorneys are "armed and dangerous" because an exam said they were worthy to represent people's lives and liberty!!! Blackjack should have kept quiet!
You are such a verbose and abusive sort of arrogant statist- probably of short stature. You made so many incorrect assumptions about me it is simply pathetic. I would hire this lady over you any day. I bet she is tenacious and compassionate.
Where did Pres. Lincoln go to law school?
Why don't you go back to your self-important interior life sucking cock?
This woman's persistence is admirable, but would you choose to entrust your rights (and financial interests) with a lawyer who flunked the bar 13 times? I would not. The bar exam is not real life, but there are plenty of times in practice when one has to be able to work quickly and under pressure. Failing the exam 13 times portends poorly for future performance in crunch time.
Bar exam performance is irrelevant to choosing an attorney. If she does a good job practicing law, you choose her, if she doesn't you don't. Your choice is based on an assumed prediction. Let me ask you this question, who would you choose to represent you, a bad lawyer who passed the bar the first time, or an excellent lawyer who failed it 13 times?
Wow. I'm always disappointed by the really hateful comments that people leave on these sites.
People don't generally fail the bar because they don't know the law. Everyone taking it graduated from law school and some of those who fail are actually attorneys from out of state.
The main reason why people fail is because they have a hard time writing the exam i.e. condensing a voluminous amount of rules on any of 14 subjects, clearly and concisely in the short amount of time that's allotted.
75% pass in most states the first time, but in California only 39% pass the exam. California has the most difficult bar exam in the united states, so the fact that she even passed it proves that she is pretty good.
I think the test is designed so that if you can pass it then you are qualified to be a lawyer, meaning that despite how many times you try, you'll just learn more and more until you're qualified enough. I see the 7 years as a learning period for her more than anything. I think taking seven years shows that she's a lawyer that will work very hard for you and not give up.
California has the hardest bar exam. If you graduate from law school, taking a SUBJECTIVE test under harsh time constraints does not make a good practicing lawyer.
It is an exclusionary bar. It would be better to allow graduates to practice immediately after graduating; let the free market determine who is good and who sucks.
There a lot of shitty smart attorneys out there. Maybe you will find one. Flies are drawn to shit.
@cr500rebuild When I pass the bar exam, how bout I come your way and slap your stupid mouth with a big fat barbri bar review book that weighs like a log.
@cr500rebuild Ha, ha, I had to since another is using this name with the correct spelling; Be nice brother, try not to insult people, it's obvious your a bit angry with yourself, and as for tests and school, well all I can say is Abraham Lincoln!
Just failed twice. Great video, pretty inspiring. I believe the correlation between passing the bar and being a competent lawyer certainly exists; you must have (or once had during the bar studies) the de minimis legal knowledge necessary to at least be able to recalled later on when needed. But I'd like to think passing the bar is only one of the lesser vital ingredients for a career of satisfying/successful law practice.
those who try never defeat in life . Your story is providing us good education that we should not leave our struggle for succeeding in life . I wish you your good career
Oh the nerves of the Bar Exam. I heard they're releasing more tests soon. I remember being glued to my PMBR book...god. Also, profbamberger's videos are pretty good, he has simulated multistate questions..they're difficult but he says they're very similar to those on the Bar.
There's no reason for her to be embarrassed. What's wrong with failing ? We learn the most when we fail. I admire her determination. She did something most people wouldn't be able to do - pass the bar. Your negative comments reflex your one dimensional mind.
You obviously have never really succeeded in life, so therefore you don't understand failure. Your comments demonstrate quite clearly that your are both ignorant and narrow minded...........THERE ENOUGH SAID.
Great job! Way to stick it out. I'd have given up after the 3rd failure....

It actually makes attorneys less prepared for practice, Law schools teach the subjects that will be tested on the bar exam and neglect skill oriented courses.
josbo51715 2 weeks ago
@josbo51715 That is just sad.
mochafudgetruffle 2 weeks ago
@jetulik Are you aware that former Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Charles Evan Hughes failed the bar exam 7 times before finally passing? If the Chief Justice on the highest court in the country can fail the bar exam, why are you holding this woman to a higher standard? Furthermore, most attorneys wouldn't be able to pass the bar exam without studying the material again. They are only competent to practice law during the examination. Afterwards, they forget the material.

I passed, but it really is the hardest bar exam in the country, if not the world.
i want to talk badly about this woman, but after going through that ordeal myself, even though she had to do it 14 times, i really can't say much bad.
Kistha 1 year ago
People reading this should know that the California Bar exam is the most difficult bar exam in the country. It is a 3 day exam, 8 hours each day.
In 2009, 60 percent of California Bar Exam takers failed, only 40 percent passed, and a majority of those 40 percent passers were multiple attempts.
So people thinking this is some easy test, you really have no clue.

I'll admit it, I passed the Virginia bar on the second try. The first time, my nerves really got to me. The second time, it was a breeze, no nerves or anything at all. She's a stronger person than me, there is NO WAY I would take a bar exam 14 times. That's unbelievable. But, I'm happy for her.

xXxSniper761xXx 1 year ago

Can't students who graduate Bachelor Degree get be lawyer without passing the BAR exam?
FeelFree3 2 years ago
@FeelFree3 No. You definitely have to go to law school, and most of the time, then take the bar exam. A handful of schools have arrangements with the state such that their graduates do not have to take the bar.

Actually, the more prestigious the school, the more they tend to not care about attendance. I attended a tier 1 school and never went to class and they didn't care. Why? Cuz they knew I'd probably pass on the first time anyway, which I did.

This woman's persistence is admirable, but would you choose to entrust your rights (and financial interests) with a lawyer who flunked the bar 13 times? I would not. The bar exam is not real life, but there are plenty of times in practice when one has to be able to work quickly and under pressure. Failing the exam 13 times portends poorly for future performance in crunch time.
jwcesq 2 years ago
Bar exam performance is irrelevant to choosing an attorney. If she does a good job practicing law, you choose her, if she doesn't you don't. Your choice is based on an assumed prediction. Let me ask you this question, who would you choose to represent you, a bad lawyer who passed the bar the first time, or an excellent lawyer who failed it 13 times?

mourkos 2 years ago

Hey Peter Pan!
