Funny how Tom's board has a blemish on it. He tries valoriously to hide it with a disc until instinct kicks in at 2:21 - notices it, scratches at it, covers it back up, keeps moving discs, and gives up. Really, this is the best board Mayday Games can offer a popular video reviewer? No wonder their reputation sucks.
I can't fully blame Tom for being more lenient with games he's given free copies of, but any pool or Crok player knows that flaws like that can affect the game rather badly. Shame.
If there's one flaw with the game it's the fact that you'll probably be introduced to it by someone who already has a board and is damn good at it. So while you bounce discs off of pegs, overshoot the board, and get a sore finger, you also get trounced by the board owner for your troubles.
This game will always remind me of my childhood. My grandmother had a home made crokinole board that my grandfather made in the 1940s. Great memories!
We've been playing it at home a lot lately. We've settled on a variant where everyone gets one "mulligan" (redo) on one shot that doesn't connect with any other pieces. If you choose not to use it the whole game then those players get +5 points at the end. It's pretty fun!
@eviltofutube Seconded! Carrom is great but it's so hard to find people to play it with. Tom would love it (if, that is, he doesn't already know about it).
I was the person who taught Tom how to play Crokinole! Origins in '06 or so, I brought my board so that he could play since he never had. At the time he said he didn't like it as much as Pitch Car. :)
We never played with the "must flick a disk into the center ring" rule growing up. That way you had the option of putting a disk behind a peg, protecting it from your opponant. It sacrifices points, though, to do that, so it really was only good for an opening move.
no blemish bro

@mattzero123 Definitely is a blemish. Mayday was found to be shipping USED and DAMAGED products to people expecting NEW copies.

I love Tom's reviews, but I despise Crokinole!

@eimative No sadly his newest addition, his recently born son, is ill and has to stay in hospital currently.
Hope he's well soon tom

It reminds me of Carrom, which I love but don't play often because I can't find any good boards I can afford.
