  • This guy's a fucking boss....Why is he in dragonforce again?

  • love how hes casually singing along whilst being an absolute beast!

  • After watching this video, the way I heard Dragonforce has absolutely changed... This guy is a fuckin' machine!

  • can anybody tell if he does heel heel toe toe or heel toe heel toe?

  • Comment removed

  • 4:28 WTF??? Fake double bass.

  • i don't see those trigger pads, so what are people saying :S

  • only guy in the band who has any talent live

  • @ork47 dragonforce does has talent! some guy mest up their sound it use to sound like the studio when they played live. If u dont believe me look up dragonforce on wikipidia. Also look up dragonforce 2004

  • omg: 4:00 - 4:58!

  • he is rocking there like a a boss!

  • For the 20 dislikes, can you all put up a cover of this song? Ill determine who's better kk?

  • we tocas bien chingon¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

    XD

  • When he plays the Chorus he looks like a GOD

  • You will probably shit on this if you see "Kai hahto" drumming

  • well hes fast, but its so predictable and so not-creative, after watching a gavin harrison drum play listening to his guy is disapointing.

  • only trigger drumer that i appreciate

  • It takes just as much effort to heel-toe trigger pads as it does to heel-toe bass heads. What the christ are you people smoking? This is coming from a drummer of 15 years experience, btw.

  • Man, he is so cool, 6 ****** for that. XD

  • THE most interesting technique shown in this clip is obviously the double strokes on the kicks. At that speed, it's pretty clean!

  • @Mapexyeah Easy to do double strokes on trigger pads -he isn't using the actual kick drums, he never does. They are for show and I've played on electronic kits with those trigger pads for the kicks -all you have to do is not control your foot and you get odd double strokes. Let him do it with beater hitting the actual drum heads on the kicks -it's lame he has two perfectly good kicks but uses them for props. He could as least trigger the kicks if he wanted.

  • @deathmetalstrength @4:35 I cannot see trigger pads. Where would said pads be placed, exactly?

  • @i3rucei3ruce The pedals have the pads on the front of them and the beaters are angled down -like I said to semitonedown above, around 0:29 to 0:48 you can clearly see his beaters never touch the real kick drums but angle down and hit the pads on the front of the pedals themselves...

  • @Mapexyeah BTW, so it's clear: I don't hate the guy, NOT a Dragonforce fan but he fits the music and good for him. I just think stop trying to fool everyone with two kicks that are props and utilize them and trigger THEM if he wants to. It's harder to play off the kicks any day -you have to use different muscles to control the pedal -those trigger pads are only good for one thing: being lazy. So, flame me if you want fella's... -oh he used the pads on his TAMA promo on their site...

  • @deathmetalstrength Oh I didn't know about the trigger pads....that's pretty lame actually!

  • @deathmetalstrength I don't understand what trigger pads could be for? I play both electronic and regular kit, I think it take just as much effort to strike the pad or skin. Real drums have more of a rebound. If he's triggering the bass drum SOUNDS then why is he keeping his legs going?

  • @semitonedown Dude, not so much about effort as it is control. His beaters are angled down -from 0:29 to about 0:48 you can clearly see his beaters are hitting electronic pads UNDERNEATH the pedal -they make some electronic kick pedals that way -saves you from buying an extra pad to use as a kick. Look close and you'll see them. He would still have to PLAY the kicks, regardless. His is playing them, my opinion it's just lazy -he could trigger his physical kicks...

  • @semitonedown And your right: real drums DO have more rebound -it's all control. If he at least triggers his two unused bass drums he would get the triggered sound while playing a real drum. Those two beautiful kicks are for looks only -I've read that he has only occasionally triggered them and played them. He plays electronic kick pedal pads and in my book, that ain't right. Electronic drums are only good for getting multiple sounds -real drums are the real deal. If you disagree then okay...

  • @semitonedown As far as what triggers and electronic pads are for? A lot of extreme metal drummers trigger their kicks, snares and even toms. The triggers are small and usually attach to the rim. This so they get a consistent sound using two bass drums at high volume and speeds. What Dave is doing is he isn't even using the kick drums but using a pedal that has pad under the beater, the beater angles down and hits the pad. A lot Roland electric kits have used them...

  • @deathmetalstrength Personally I have no problem with a drummer using electronic kicks or any other drums. My favorite drummer is Neil Peart and he's used both forever. My issue is that you call it lazy. Electronic or not there's nothing lazy about the playing. Electronic kicks mean each hit will sound the same but if other metal drummers use triggers then they should be called lazy too.

  • @semitonedown Neil Peart cut his teeth on REAL drums (not that Dave didn't) but Neil is KNOWN for his technique & playing style. I'm not saying if a drummer uses electronics it's lazy, per se. It's lazy when you rely on it the WAY he does. Yes, George Kollias, Derek Roddy use triggers ON their actual kick drums, not pads. Sean Reinert uses electronic percussion with Cynic, Bill Bruford & Terry Bozzio both used electronics exclusively in the 80's!

  • @deathmetalstrength Okay I think I see your point. Is it that he keeps the shells there to hide the pads that bothers you, or that it cheats on making sure the sound is consistent? In terms of playing the drums I see no difference. I don't know much about metal drummers. Out of curiosity, how do they use triggers on the kick drums?

  • @semitonedown Trigger regular drums is a matter of attaching a small trigger to (usually -but there are different kinds) the rim then part of it will set just above the head to pick up the vibrations from the head (some sit right on the head). You choose what sound you want from the trigger & you could hit a 10" tom & trigger a piccolo snare drum sound. A lot of that went on in the 90's -I read a lot of Modern Drummer. When you mix sounds, they sounds natural, or just use the triggered sound...

  • @semitonedown When triggering sounds you can set a trigger's sensitivity so it will act more real. A lot of metal drummers who play double kicks use them to get even sounds at high volumes & speeds. Look, I've been pretty rough on Dave, I'm sure he's a nice guy -but I'd be this way if I found out Derek Roddy was doing what Dave is. I guess I'm a purist. Dave should at least use his real kicks, with triggers -same result but it'd be more honest. Btw, he doesn't hide the fact that he does this...

  • @deathmetalstrength I would be upset too if I cared about Dragonforce more than I do. I was just trying to figure out what your actual problem was with Dave. Now I understand. And I've checked out George Kollias, his feet are not human.

  • @semitonedown Let me just state for the record that I am NOT a Dragonforce what so ever (not that I thought you were accusing of such). They do what they do, that's fine. I like jazz/fusion, blues, rock/hard rock & a ton of extreme metal (like Nile, Suffocation, Death, Gorguts, Cynic, Demolition Hammer, etc). My issue with Dave is that he gives "metal" drummers a bad rep by doing this. People "in the know" will think that's the only way a metal drummer can play -which isn't true...

  • @semitonedown Richard Christy is one of my favorite metal drummers -he doesn't use triggers on his acoustic drums. He will use electronic pads to add sounds & textures to the music, like Sean Reinert, but he doesn't augment his acoustics with triggered sounds. He actually practices & uses DYNAMICS to help himself play better. However, I would understand a kit being triggered in an outdoor or huge venue where live miking would be impractical or impossible -there are rare exceptions in my book...

  • @deathmetalstrength At least for that song he's definitely not triggering the bass drums but actually playing the notes. I care more about the skill than what method they use. Johnny Rabb is insane on real drums but is also the ambassador for Roland. I like him when he plays both kinds. I don't like that Dave has the real bass drums up there for show but it would look ridiculous without them

  • @semitonedown He IS TRIGGERING THE DRUMS by playing electronic pedals -he's not even using his real drums. He may not have triggers ON the kicks but what he's doing is being dishonest by using props (the real kicks) & then the electronic pedals trigger the sound. Electronic drums use triggers (to a degree) to get the sound. Call it what you want man, we don't see it the same & that's cool. Let's just leave it at that...

  • I get tired just by watching him.

  • i would give up from exhaustion at just about 0:11

  • it is not the best, fastest, which has the best techniques .. but ..

is so fucking good excellent drummer!

    so cool ..

  • This guy is a fucking SAVAGE!!!

  • CHIDO! DAVE! l,,l

  • Ha I guess this proved people wrong lol

  • wats up with his bass drum beater y does it look like its going down???

  • @dangerrat456 i know right, i noticed that as well. what the FUCK is that ( i want it) :D

  • @MikeJunior94 yea it looks really freaky lol. makintosh is a fucking mnster on drums though those pedals r freaky though.

  • @dangerrat456 thats because he uses trigers, and the beaters for those trigers go down to correctly hit the trigers (i think that he uses the Roland KD7 Kick Controllers)

  • @VersaillesYuki so his kicks are just for show?

  • @dangerrat456 yeah, but i think that it would look pretty suckish when you have a drumkit with 7 toms, 11 cymbals, etc... and then you have 2 little triggers instead of bass drums...

  • @VersaillesYuki yea ur deffinetley right about that. idk its just kinda freaky though. watever though hes still a monster drummer.

  • his bass drum beater confuse the hell out of me

when it does an overhead view just look and youll see

  • @ubermplalir the music is off sync

  • endurance? hahahahahahahaha go to listen to george kollias then you will understand what endurance means in a drummer...

  • @Rhapsody3991 Just in case you didn't know, DragonForce's songs generally last up to 8 minutes, and they play all these songs back to back for hours on end, and you saying he has no endurance? I don't know whats going on in your head.

  • ARREPIEI

  • DAVE MACKINTSOH IS THE GREATEST DRUMMER OF ALL TIME!

  • @Theolppoman he is good, but meggers from the casualties is more consistent in rhythm and speed, i don't mean dave sucks, i love dragonforce.

  • @breakfastsex

well he is best I know

  • Great job! I just don't like the foam beaters. Get some Trick's man. Don't care what anyone else says, you are good. Just get some new beaters for your pedals. Oh and stop doing 80 fantasy rock too. You guys need to update your sound a bit. Still great though. Nice work.

  • This man is my God.

  • omfg he is a fucking machine and the crowd sucks :D

  • i can play all of this on my hands but i can not do the foot stuff to save my life

  • Epic xD

  • How come I can't type in a comment on other youtube videos?? Btw EPIC!! :D

  • awesome !!!!!

  • I can actually play at this speed and sound just like him, but I could never do this for hours and hours at a time. I get so sick of when people say he sucks or his band is gay, cause they're not. Even if they were, you don't need the best drummer in the universe or a straight vocalist to write amazing songs like Dragonforce does.

  • marathon man xD

  • He is sooooooooooo heavy on the backside of the beat. And everything Dragonforce plays is on the frontside. Even there ballads. Maybe it's just a sound thing since he's playing to a track and it's not lining up perfectly. I don't think this is true nonetheless...

  • Hard to believe he's not freakin ripped from all this man! Dave RULES!!!

  • 4:32 the drum beaters are headbanging!

  • How can ppl say this drummer sucks? im not a fan of Dragonforce but this drummer have some mads kills lol .If you want to listen to a really really BAD drummer listen to Lars Ulrich.. anyone is better that him.

  • @mrfrozex1 HEY?!! LARS IS FROM METALLICA. IF HE SUCKS, YOU SUCKS MORE!

  • @mrfrozex1 lol, ima such an idiot, i was like WTF, ARE U FKIN STUPID, LARS ULRICH IS THE BEST FUCKING.... oh wait hes just joking XD

  • fuckin` greatest drummer ever!!!!!

  • dead people move more than the guys in the audience

  • This guy never gets tired!

  • No offence, Dave is a good drummer.

but if you know one Dragonforce song, you know all. They all sound pretty much the same. So the drumparts are the t same, too.

I wouldn't go to Dragonforce concert because I would get tired

  • @Hannibu several album tracks are slower its just the singles and faster tracks that more attention

  • Dave is probably the only Dragonforce member with talent. All of the guitar solos are slightly sped up.

  • @AuditionGuyAtYahoo no they arent, they wouldnt be in the top 50 fastest if they sped it up, they wouldnt count it and i got dvds where they are recording the guitars, they dont speed it up

  • @AuditionGuyAtYahoo oh...another ignorant comment. they aren't sped up. do some research before you try and bash a band. they are extremely talented and can actually play all those guitar solos you hear. look up some recent live performances. preferrably 2009 ones as the 2011 ones are all filmed with digital cameras or phones as of right now.

  • dragon force songs remind me of lord of the rings for some reason lol DRAGON FORCE FOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This dude is on PEDs! lol kidding

  • Oh hey I didn't know Danny McBride was a drummer :P

  • Ai seus corneta FDP...Pra quem falou muito aqui no brasil que o cara nao toca isso ao vivo...ta ai a prova...Cornetem a vontade agora seus merda

  • Say what you want about the repetitive drum beats, but keep in mind that Dragonforce wouldn`t sound very good if they had overly complex drum beats. Dave Mackintosh is playing what is right for a power metal song and he does it incredibly well.

  • @CronoX3 true. he has to keep the same beats constant and i dont mind it cause i can headbang for that much longer.

  • For all the haters out there, do not knock it until you try it.... I repeat, do not knock it until you try it.

  • Why do people come to these videos JUST to post comments saying that they can do better? Don't say it, PROVE IT.

Seriously, just listen to it and enjoy it....

  • Wow i didnt realize how good he is until i actually watched him! People mainly talk about herman sam and zp be4 he left! But dave should be just as popular as those 3! AMAZING! :D

  • Dave should have his own line of energy drinks...

  • @ShadowSlayer451 I would buy it for sure \m/

  • @sempthegreat id like to see you do that....

  • @sempthegreat That's the problem. Anything in this video, I CAN do.. It's not difficult.

  • @sempthegreat if thats all you know how to do- metal is not the hardest style to drum. I can do this as well, but i dont brag about it. btw if ur using repeaters, ur cheating. just saying- do something by nile on drums, and ill be impressed. other than that, dont bother bragging.

  • @Darknight6606 Dude. Did I mention Nile? Nile is some pretty advanced stuff. This however, is nothing more than rock 1.2.3.. And by what you are saying in your leading comment is completely wrong. Metal can be some difficult stuff. Check out some stuff by Veil of Maya, Born of osiris or Bring me the horizon.. Or if you like power metal, then check out Hangar... Your youtube name even says you dont know shit about either music and drums.. Jeez, just shut it.

  • @sempthegreat actually i made my channel a year ago. and no, metal is not even close. i have studied music theory, and tho metal is my favorite style, jazz is the most difficult style to play on drums. I know a lot about both music and drums. metal may be difficult, but in general its not very complex with drums. the speed is difficult. The most complex instruments in metal are keyboards and guitar, as the scales and pentatonics are mixed together.

  • @Darknight6606 Still. You clearly missed out listening to all styles.. Cause as I said, stuff like born of osiris is the most diverse and complex music I've ever heard. And btw, I've studied music theory too.

  • @sempthegreat You kidding? I love born of osiris, however i dont find them to be very complex. I got the discovery recently, the drum work is fast, yet not complex. And im glad i found a fellow musician- and i have studied all styles, and my favorite is metal. The only styles i HATE are rap, pop, and hiphop.

  • @Darknight6606 I'm sorry once again. But the drum work on discovery is prolly the most complex metal drumming in 2011.

  • @sempthegreat See I didnt think it was all that complex. I love the album but i dont think the drum work was all that complex. Its more complex than dragonforce, ill say that, but like dragonforce it requires incredible endurance, but its harder. However, the drums are typical deathcore beats, which arent all that hard to do if you know how to. While it may be the most complex drums you know, you really have to go into underground black metal to find the fastest. check out Behemoth.

  • @Darknight6606 I've seen Behemoth live. And no, black metal, blackend death metal etc, is not complex. It takes endurance and finger technique, nothing more.

  • @sempthegreat You could say the same of born of osiris. its like saying nile takes nothing but endurance and finger technique, i have no choice but to bring this last style out.......Technical death metal. You cannot deny the skill of the drummers.

Btw what about bands such as Ulcerate and Fleshgod Apocalypse?

  • he´s insane >.<

  • Band sucks big ass, but Dave is only good player in band and this video shows it.

  • Dave was already up there on my list of drummers but the double strokes on the kick (electronic pad or not) just moved him up even farther.

  • He ´s a Devil ! :-) Awesome ... Dave POWA

  • Wish the kicks were better mic'd

  • @TheMysteriousSage The Rev was undoubtedly one of the best drummers of our generation. He was a exceptionally gifted drummer. Take the time to listen to each and every song he recorded with A7x. There's so much variety and technical engineuity. And for the record, it's not mainstream metal. It's awesome metal.

  • I can play drums at an alright level, and I can play songs like this. But, keeping in mind that this guy plays like this for 7+ mins on pretty much every song, at this pace on pretty much every song, for 1,5 hour+ concerts ... it's pretty darn amazing that he can achieve such endurance. I'm knackered after playing one of their songs once.

  • This motherfucker's got some endurance, man. Fuck.

  • the only member of dragonforce that can play its music live......

  • @glitch2pwn Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

    /watch?v=wLV3QApEUw8

    ;)

  • dave on the loose fuck yeah!

  • genial

  • Tried the blast beat, was tired after 10 seconds. Dave is awesome.

  • the drum appears dancing with him, never another style will replace blast-beat, never another drummer will replace Dave Mackintosh, Keep Rulling man, you rock!

  • Dave Mackintosh shoulda played a drum battle with The Rev.... It would have been absolutely godly.

  • @DaNo123zZz Only if the rev was actally good.

  • @TheMysteriousSage How... Can you possibly say... The Rev... was not one of the best drummers of the generation man..

  • @DaNo123zZz Because he wasn't

  • @TheMysteriousSage he was definitely one of the best drummers of the generation but only for his genre of music

  • @MegaStorm13 Mainstream metal, that was more of his genre.

  • pleas could someone tell me what kit dave uses plox :)

  • @666DARKR0SE666 Tama Starclassic Birch Bubinga with 8, 10 and 12 inch rack toms. 16 and 18 inch floor toms. 2 22x18 kicks and a 14x5.5 Metalworks snare :)

  • @666DARKR0SE666 Tama Starclassic Birch Bubinga with 8, 10 and 12 inch rack toms. 16 and 18 inch floor toms. 2 22x18 kicks and a 14x5.5 Metalworks snare :)

  • Dave would be a great Sushi Chef!

  • 4:28 - 4:38 = 10 seconds blasbeat with double stroke in bass drum

  • he is insane

  • He's probably my favourite drummer at all time :) I wouldn't say the BEST drummer, simply because each drummer has their own style of playing :) For example, you wouldn't (and couldn't) compare Steve Moore/The Mad Drummer and Dave Mackintosh because they're awesome in two different ways :)

  • to be honest this is one of my favorites drummers , its amazing how he plays that songs so freaking fast lol Respect! man

  • inhuman endurance

  • He 5s the best,,, )

  • Its fun watching his pinkies fly off his drumstick

  • @Deathbaaat Blastbeat in every song..LOL Hell, listen to Black Metal. Every song of every band in that entire genre uses blastbeat like it's going out of style.

  • Why do we people always argue about whos better and whos a better drummer, to me every drummer is good everyone has their own style of playing. So just stop is childish if you ask me. Dave is a good drummer being able to keep the tempo for a long period of time is pretty hard especially if hes drumming fast so actually that is talent:D Hails from south central La!!

  • Comment removed

  • @BandaDK

    Shut Up

  • This guy is awesome

  • The best drummer for me

  • I always hear about Herman Li and I never knew who Dave Mackintosh was until today... It's a shame.

  • lol daveeeeeeeee!

  • speed means nothing guys and he realy isnt bassing normally which actually will make you much faster hes good but not as good as the greats like peart rick gadd etc...im not saying hes bad hes better than me but hes not the best

  • @Deathbaaat nice i indeed in that!

  • • „¸¨°º¤ø„¸!.,,.!¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º°¨

    ♫☻╚oVe☻♫ Dragonforce Dragonforce FOREVER

  • dave are the best holy shit...there are great drummers like Lombardo(SLAYER) or Lars(METALLICA) but dave is on another level of speed and accuracy...

i fucking love Dragonforce and i think that they are one of the best bands in the world nowadays

  • i don't understand how he can sing in 220 bpm he is awesome

  • just putting it out there but did anyone else notice how for the fast 16th note double bass passages in the song he is doing doubles?, any one know if he is doing heel toe or propper doubles virgil donati style?

  • @MatthewThornton89 heel toe

  • Face it people. He is the millionaire. You are not. So stop hating on him. Twats.

  • Yep ask him to play that without his triggers that he has to barely touch to activate, an tell him to stop using bass drums just to cover them, then well' see, John tempesta is a beast, Dave Lombardo is, not this guy, in my opinion.

  • @TheRealAxelFury he could play without triggers , he used too back in 04-05. do your homework before making retarded accusations.

  • @lfcbenitez123 I saw the guy on stage, and i saw his footwork during concerts (yep I used to be a sound technician, and drum technician)

Dunno if the guy was able to play like that with normal drums in the past, but sure not now, he seems to have a sort of ankle problem.

I had my left ankle broken in two sections, and now I can bend it only at 80% but instead i never went for damn triggers, and learned the swivel.

On youtube you can find guys that are way better than him, an not famous at all

  • @TheRealAxelFury WTF? You obviously know nothing about triggers and pedals. When using triggers you still have to do the same foot motion as you would with a normal pedal , because your still using the pedal. If you look at the video you will see his beater actually moves in front of the pedal ( where the bass head is absent ) .. so he is actually putting just as much force behind the hits as he would with a normal pedal/ bass drum whatever. Stop bitching already , hes a really good drummer.

  • @lfcbenitez123 Why you act as you know what i do and know? you like this drummer, fine for me, i'm just expressing my opinion, but don't pretend to know or guess what i do.

I have at home a TD20K, the same he uses as bass drum trigger. i use it for practicing so the neighbours don't break my balls. besides being strange seeing the beater at that angle, the trigger is really light, and it take way less effort to trigger the sound: you lightly tap it and is triggered.

i do know, what i'm saying.

  • @TheRealAxelFury Well if you know what your saying you would of stopped bitching already. Triggers dont make it easier to play at that speed whatsoever. Yes i do like this drummer , and thats my opinion .. but only someone who is mentally challenged would say he is a bad drummer.

  • @lfcbenitez123 all i see is you offending me, in various ways.

I never said that this guy is a bad drummer, because he is not, i said that he is not a beast like someone here is saying.

You make suppositions i speak from direct experience, you offend me, and say that I called him a bad drummer, while I just said that he is not a beast, and gave example on who is a beast, argumenting from direct experience the "trigger debate"

My friend, you seem the mentally challenged here, not me.

  • @TheRealAxelFury If you read my comment again i didnt directly call YOU mentally challenged .. i said anyone who thinks he is a bad drummer is mentally challenged. If you dont think he is bad , then you have nothing to worry about.

  • It's power metal drum style. So fuck off !! Dave is great.

  • People say Dave sucks, but face it, no one has that much energy playing the drums, and keep on playing with full energy for 5+ mins. He's amazing, even tho its the same beats over and over, only a few can actually keep up and play like him. Dragonforce rules :D

  • @Catalyst22 and hey not ONLY +5 minutes but entire gig! you now around an hour!
