  • The 13" vs 15" Macbook Pro decision relies completely on your financial capabilities. If you have the money to buy 15", then purchasing a 13" is irreasonable until you don't need the heavy duty performance of 15". If you don't have the money for 15", then the only choice left is 13". Both are good machines. 15" is superior to 13" by a small margin. So you won't regret 13" purchase...

  • I think im going to go with the 13 in because thats all i want, but i have a question, which computer's speakers are louder? Cus the 13 in doesnt have visible speakers..

  • @JoshWGee The 15 inch's speakers are higher quality, and louder. However, the 13 inch's speakers are not at all bad or quiet.

  • Now you need to do another review on the same thing only with the new 13 and 15 MBP

  • @MrGamester66 I considered it when they came out- but the same points are present. The 15 inch is still much faster than the 13, with more options for more advanced users. The 13 inch is still easier to transport, and it's still much slower since it only has dual core processors and limited graphics/display options.

  • @RyanKnowsTech But doesn't the knew 13 inch have a i5 now just like the 15 inch?

  • @MrGamester66 It is an i5, but it's a significantly slower dual core processor, instead of the 15 inch's quad core i7 chips.

  • Wow, thanks a lot, i was really getting close to ordering the 15" for college as i render a lot of 1080p video (being a media student) but i have to drag it with me everyday and the extra $600 or so would have been a bit steep, especially since i have a custom PC at home (weighs about 50lbs so not practical to take to college :P)

I'll be buying the 2.7ghz 13", throwing an extra 4gb of ram in all for less than a base 15". Thanks (:

  • i love my 15 inch, but sometimes i wish i had the 13" just because its more portable and what not but the biggest visible difference between the 13 and 15 inch is that the 15 inch has speakers along the sides

  • I'm now in a situation when I need to take my laptop to school, and carry it around. The video is saying that the 13 inch is easy to carry around. But the 15 inch, is it possible to carry that around aswell, like in my eastpack schoolbag, and is it way more heavy then 13 inch? I also want to play some games on it. So wich one do you recommand for me?

  • @Sidney0078 I've been carrying my 15 inch to school now for two weeks, and it's not as big of a deal as I thought it would be. The 13 inch is still easier, so I would go for that if you want to take it everywhere with you. The 15 inch is significantly more powerful though!

  • @Sidney0078 i know a little late but.. just add a full waterbottle too it and thats the weight

  • Hey Ryan, I want to get a MBP for college...I would really only use it for the internet and writing papers, but some people think it's too small for that. Do you think the 13" screen is too small for word processing? In a perfect world I would get the 15" but the extra $600 is a lot of money just for screen size.

  • @20boston04 13 inches will be fine! I used it for school for a year and half with 13 inches and it was great, and much easier to carry around than the 15 inch.

  • @20boston04 don't know if its to late but i would get an air. its lighter and there is no point in getting a pro for internet and homework writing paper type stuff

  • I'm looking at getting a new macbook pro (my 3-year-old macbook recently died - probably due to too much video capturing through the firewire port that was on the older models) and have heard good reports on the 13 inch model. I plan to mainly use it for study at uni but during holidays I like to capture and edit family videos from a DV camera using the firewire port and iMovie. I have also noticed that I often found my old macbook screen to be a bit small, but am just trying to decide on cost.

  • Also I hope to be able to use it for 4-5 years and hope whatever I get lasts at least that long.

  • i have already a pc with core i7 and 4gb ram, gt240m bla bla. im stduying as a computer engineer student. so i need visual studio and other stuff for developing. in my country macbook or any mac is not common. i wanna buy macbook 13 for developing, do u think is that ok? im gonna use only visual studio and mssql on windows. on mac i just gonna surf on the internet bla bla bla. some1 can light me ?

  • @0smiumm Yeah the MacBook will do that fine.

  • in english please

  • @RyanKnowsTech I'm going to do a Multimedia Design education for 4 years.. We're going to use Dreamweaver, Photoshop and stuff like that. Which one do you recommend? Is the 13", Intel Core i7 2.7GHz good enough for the job? And is 13" big enough the photoshop?

  • @MrBartvos Hmmm, if you can afford it, I would get the 15 inch. It's speed will only be noticeable in much larger documents, but the higher resolution and larger screen will make everything easier to do.

  • Hy. I'm a PC user and I want to switch to mac. I am mostly interested in how Adobe After Effects would perform on the 13" model. Could you please help me?

  • @Vapaus000 Honestly, After Effects works VERY well on a 13 inch MacBook Pro. It will be a bit faster on a 15 inch model, but it's really just fine on a 13 inch.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Thank you.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Hey Ryan, I'm getting a macbook pro for college just for basic schoolwork and stuff and I think a lighter smaller 13" would be so much better for me. What do you think? I like the way the smaller ones are, I can slip them in and out of my backpack between books whatever.

  • @rocaho001 Yeah I'd definitely go with the 13.

  • is the 2.66ghz better than the other ghz on the 15 inch? Is it worth it?

Is there like a difference between the other ghz....? I mean like does each of them do anything different except the ghz? sorry if you dont understand. Please try to answer this

  • @Ambiesama Processor clock is irrelevant. The Core i5s and 17s are generally faster than the Core 2 Duos. Fastest processors are the quad core i7s, then the i5s, then the Core 2 Duos. Clock speed dropped, it goes that way.

  • is a 2.66Ghz core 2 duo better than a 2.4Ghz i5?

  • @zippguitaro Pretty even, I'd say. Given a choice, I'd take the i5.

  • @RyanKnowsTech ok, thanks

  • @kingjay127 Those two processors would be very close, I've never tested them. I would bet on the i5 because of it's better architecture.

  • Thanks for the video. I am heavily leaning to getting the 13 inc macbook pro. My question is do you think it would be wise to get it now, or its best to wait for the newer models that are rumored to be coming out soon. I keep hearing sometimes in April. Thanks.

  • @PJMAN2952 if your just using your mac for that than get the 13 inch. if ur gonna do video stuff and hardcore gaming get the 15

  • did you say it gets 5.7 rating in 64bit win7? thats a super powerful machine for a 13 inch honestly. my acer is alot more powerful and only gets 3.9 max with an i3 2.4gh 4gb ram 250gb hdd win7 home premium 64bit.. seriously dude thats impressive

  • @schnitzer12 It actually gets a 5.9 now, with my new hard drive.

  • @RyanKnowsTech is it an ssd?

  • @schnitzer12 Nope, Western Digital Scorpio Black. 7200RPM 320GB. I didn't get the 500GB because, since there are two platters instead of one, it's slightly slower, and louder.

  • @RyanKnowsTech alright thanks alot mate, im wondering how much the rating will go up with an ssd

  • @PJMAN2952 I use a 23 inch monitor when I need to edit, so the 13 inch is fine for me for email, most YouTube videos and most work I do.

  • Hey man, first of all i wana say that this was a very helpful video for me. Now i am planning on doing the same thing as you are with you computer. Getting a 13"" macbook and a tv monitor. But im really new to this computer-> TV stuff. Could you please tell me what other equipments that i have to purchase to make this work? e.g. dvi cable? ..

  • @Adamantinia For a TV.. use a mini display port to VGA. Then get a VGA cable at what ever length you need.

  • Say I got a 13" with 8gb of ram Vs. a 15" with 4GB of ram... Which would be faster??

  • @fallnfire Depends on Hdd, graphics, and processor specs of each computer. Plus what the test is. I would say the faster processor and graphics out-weight RAM for brutal tasks.

  • this is the most helpfull reveiw i have seen thanks this is great

  • @supercar97 it is!!!

  • Ive been thinking about the 13in for a while. but i just cant decide what i want.. im going to use it for everything. games, net, and school etc. But the 13in plays call of duty flawlessly.. I know alot about computers but.. really how much faster is the i5 than the intel core 2?

  • @bamthechamp The i5 is significantly faster than the Core 2 Duo.

  • @RyanKnowsTech how much faster would you say?

  • @bamthechamp Fast enough to feel the difference from a 2GHz Core Duo to a 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo.

  • @fersure0123 Lower end 15 is faster, but heavier. You decide which you need more, power, or portability.

  • what should i get the 2.66ghz 13 inch or the 2.4ghz core i5 im going to use it for gaming, school work, video editting, listening to music, watching moves(youtube included) and i want a good quality screen what do you reccomend

  • @capacop01 The Core i5 model would be much faster, and hold value much better over the years, I highly recommend it. The 15 or 17 inch (Core i5s) also have higher resolution screens, which look better over the 13 inch.

  • im in 8th grade i need a macbook for next for school. what should i get 13 core2due 2.66 or 15 i5 2.5. by the way i use a lot of internet and keynote i play no games, so''what should i get????''

  • @jeep2105111 Go with the 15 inch, there is much more power, and it's not out of date technology already.

  • thanks im gonna get the 13 inch. i knew i was going to get it before this video but this basically confirmed my choice. THANKS!!!

  • ok im going to get mine this week so i need an awnser as soon as possible... ok im going to use my macbook for afew things

    1. mine craft... its a low quality game that dosent need to run fast at all

    2. movies on the go i want to watch movies/ youtube videos with a good quality

    3. music

    4. video editing, not to much heavy stuff just simple editing... memory isnt an issue here because im going to use an external hard drive to save the videos onto

so my question is 13 or 15... please help

  • @americanpaintball 13 inch would do it no problem. 15 inch would do it a bit faster for a lot more money. I'd take the 13.

  • great video. after this, i am going to get the 13 inch

  • do you think there will be a new serie of macbook pros soon? this one came out in april right? usually there were 2 series a year, so perhaps there will be a new macbook pro 13-inch with an i5 processor. what do u guys think?

  • I bought the 13 inch for college, its very fast, I havent noticed any slow downs whatsoever. I installed windows 7 an visual studio 2010 and it runs perfectly with no hiccups or anything. I haven't played any games on it and the higher end models would probably be better for that but I have a desktop at home with an i7-860 and a GTX 480 for all that. I dont see why anyone would buy a macbook to play games.

  • Great video! I have a Dell Laptop that is 2 years old, and I want to buy a Mac for college. My current laptop has a Core 2 Duo processor and runs Windows 7 (originally Vista, but I upgraded) I use it for internet browsing, music, and Microsoft Office. I play no games on it other than Solitaire occasionally, and don't edit at all. I have the funds right now to buy a new 13", but if I save for a few months, I can buy a 15" with the faster processor. Do I buy the 13" now, or wait for the 15"?

  • @kennylofton1028 Tough question. You don't need the power. But, the power will make it hold value better, and stay up to date MUCH longer than the Core 2 Duo 13 inches. It's your call. I would probably wait, but then again, I would use all the extra power.

  • im in 8th grade and use computers a whole lot. do u think a i5 is good im always using the internet and need things fast. but core 2 duo are much cheaper

  • @dekoomenvideos i5 is a great choice, but so is the i3. The Core 2 Duo should do the job too, but I don't recommend getting out-of-date hardware. Go with i3 or i5.

  • @dekoomenvideos an 8th grader does not need a laptop at all, much less one that costs $1200+

  • hi im going to junior college next year, and i really need a laptop. is the i5 core processor faster than the core 2 duo processor? and is the core 2 duo processor going to be incompatible/old soon?

ill be doing mainly typing out essays, viewing emails and other documents online and websurfing thanks :)

  • @imnicebutheartless Sounds like a Core 2 Duo would do the job, but the i5 is much faster and better in general as it is not outdated at this point.

  • I will be going i'n highschool and need a laptop which will last me all 4 years. Is the core2duo processor capable of that. Also is the graphic chip okay???

  • @Navid566 Try to get a core i5 or i7, the Core 2 Duo is nearly dead. Any current Apple graphics chips are good.

  • Hi, i'm about to buy my first mac. I want a macbook pro 13" or 15", but i don't know which one. I do some photo/video editing with photoshop and after effects. I think i'm gonna buy the 13", but is that one fast enough for editing? I've got my own 27" screen, so i can use it. And do you have problems with the small screen of the 13" model?

    Thanks, Bas.

  • @JagexHacking 15 would be better if you have the money, but the 13 inch will do a good job too.

  • Hey, I'm heading off to Uni in the fall and am torn between the 2. I'm in the BBA program so I'm guessing I probably won't be running Photoshop/Final Cut/etc. But I would also like to have it for the full 4 years I'm there (if that's possible in this fast advancing world). Should I get the 15" just to be safe or will the 13" Core 2 Duo hold out for another 4 years? Your thoughts?

  • @xxunrealdudexx 13 inch if money is a problem. Otherwise, get a 15 i5 or i7 and that'll be much faster and last much longer.

  • Hello, I am trying to get a Macbook pro. Should I get the 13in or 15inch. I have high definition footage to edit on. 1075p and I wanna know which one is better to edit on final cut pro? Please and thanks yous. Should i get the 13in and upgrade Ram and Memory or get the 15inch with i5 or i7 with 8gb ram?

  • @shiningstar189 Depends on money. If you don't have a lot, the 13 inch will do it. If you have the cash, get 8gb of ram for sure, and a i5 or i7 15 inch.

  • Thank you sooo much for this review;;

i Want to buy the sheapest 13 inch macbook pro and a HP 27 inch external monitor, BUT my question is, will there probebly come a new macbook line up next year? may??? I cant buy my mac untill the end of this year/begin 2011 so do you think I have to wait? will te new maclineup more expensive like the imac line up did??

I can untherstand you cant garantie me anything but i like to have your opinion

    bye

sorry about my English (im dutch)

  • @rickvdsteen New MacBooks will be in July of 2011. New MacBook Pros will be in Februrary-April of 2011. Prices should be the same. If you buy a MacBook Pro, now is an okay time. If you get a MacBook, now is okay. If you have to wait until next year, wait for the update of the MacBook Pro at least.

  • Getting the 15" £2300 no glare screen high res (hate sun glare ruining dark screens) 7200rpm HDD instead of 5400. Thanks for your help now 8gigs or 4 gigs barein mind im a gamer, will 64 bit windows run 8 gigs properly or just be a waste of £320 (apples a rip off but it wont mess the warranty)

  • Battery life isn't an issue. £1500 vs £2200 how big of a difference are we talkin about in spec? care to do a demo of 13" and 15" playing a few games?

such as world of warcraft, APB (all points bulliten) we know crysis runs on the 13" and thats a demanding game.

  • @xXMC023Xx Big difference between 13 and 15, so go 15. I dont even have those games or the 15 inch, so I can't make a video, I'm no gamer. Sorry.

  • Great vid but I got a quick question: do you advise me to get the 13 inch or 15 inch? I'm gonna study biochem next year and I do regularly play games online for example Starcraft 2 or World At War. Any recommendations? I don't want to buy the 13 inch then realize that the screen is too small or that it slows down in a couple of months / years.

  • @GrandMasterJ14 I have no idea how much power these games use, I've never used anything like it. I think a 15 inch may be a bigger bet.

  • Great video. After watching it decided what one im gonna buy! Thanks!

  • 13 inch is perfect for young professionals/upper level students. Its faster than most pc's out there so getting school work done is easy and fast. Also, the impeccable battery life and portability of the 13 inch are part of what sold me on the it. Getting my 13 inch Macbook Pro in 7 days and couldn't be happier with my decision. nice video btw

  • I'm getting a macbook pro for college, I'm going into Pharmacy so I will need it for a lot of science classes, but I'm also minoring in business or computer science. I don't know how much time I will have for games but I do play some. Which would your recommend?

  • @TheJordan888888 I'd say the 13 inch since it is more portable and plenty powerful.

  • Great video, I'm about to buy one tomorrow or the next day, what should I do to prepare before I buy one? Anything that I need to know??

  • @antwonza Not really, but you're going to love it!

  • im very confused. i want a mac pro. im gona gor the basics, just thinkin to go for 13 or 15. my usage is for business & my personal use. though i want to play games like battle field etc which needs good graphic card, im not sure 330m will do pls can u help me out?? p.s i dnt hv a gr8 budget lolll..

  • @theguyoudluv2own I would get the best you can for your budget. The 13 would do it if it had to, but the 15 inch would be better. Get what you can.

  • anybody is ganna love anything that is a macbook. but its nice to have the extra speed and bigger screen, but it really doesnt matter too much unlelss you do business on it

  • I have the lowest model 13 inch MacBook Pro. But that's okay, I only use it to surf the web and school :)

  • The MacBook Pro 13in uses the Nvidia 320m

  • I have the 2.4ghz i5 Macbook Pro 1in and I love it. It's perfect for my needs.

  • 13 is nice

  • I love my 15inch MacBook Pro! :)

  • I have the 13 inch and I love it!

  • I just recently purchased the new mac mini as well, with 2.66ghz core 2 duo, 500gb HD and 8gb of ram. I no longer use my core i7 950 with 12gb of ram HP desktop any more. OSX is so fast an efficient it does programs using less resources (ram, CPU power) than Windows 7.

  • I bought the 2.66ghz 13 incher as well. The core 2 duo is actually the safest bet for this size notebook thanks to less power use and more importantly, less heat! Compared to those i5 and i7 machines out there, they do generate alot more heat inside those beautiful aluminum unibodies.

The 13' MBP w/ core 2 duo and 8gb of ram is the ultimate mac experience.

  • Went with the 13" because of size. Wish I had 15" power though.

  • very informal
