trivium actually has distinguishable melodies, this shit is just riffs with no brains and aggression with no direction...sounds like shit, nobody wants to hear a band that writes music like "ooh look how fast I can play" its all about melodies coupled with aggression, thats where REAL metal has its power. music IS melody.

Thrash metal is a great genre because of the aggression, memorable riffs and the "controlled" speed, and there are plenty of "melodic" thrash metal bands who aren't melodic for the sake of being catchy (like shitty Trivium). Old Annihilator, Vektor and Obliveon come to mind.

Your ears may have told you that thrash metal is a genre where not a single band stands out, because they all sound way to similar, while my ears can recognize plenty of trademark sounds from plenty of different thrash metal bands, not only the vocal trademark, because that would be to easy, but also song writing wise.

@EverxOpeningxFlower my ears are just fine, I dont even like trivium that much, they just happened to be mentioned..you want to hear some real metal with distinguishable sounds and lyrics try bands like pantera, sepultura, arch enemy, and even straight line stitch. all of them have distinct sounds and dont just riff for the sake of being "faster" than other bands. they know how to actually write great songs instead of just riff like theyre in the garage.

Sepultura is an amazing band, one of my favorites actually, with albums like Beneath the Remaind and Schizophrenia being one of my favorite death/thrash albums of all time. It kinda surprises me that you like that band. Arch Enemy is one of the worst melodic death metal bands of all time, believe me. Check out Edge of Sanity, their Crimson album for example.
