I always think of this piece when people tell me that Beethoven wrote only one opera. Here, he compresses an entire tragedy into a recitative, aria, and cabaletta; the result is utterly convincing and stands on its own, a full-fledged music drama, somewhat like Schœnberg's Erwartung.
Schade ist, daß die Synchronisation in dieser wundervollen Aufnahme leider nicht stimmt. Trotzdem große Klasse!!!!
