  • Great video Jim and Kristin - hope you guys had a great trip to Sri Lanka, hope to here about it.

  • @PhilipPeak Thanks Phil, it was good! We are jetlagged now though. :)

  • I live in Ky, I hope I can visit this place sometime.

  • I think I've checked all your videos, and I haven't seen a coral snake. Do you have any? Several years ago I was living in LA and walking through the woods. Up ahead I could see beautiful jewel colors. I ran through the little ditty and couldn't believe I was really seeing a coral snake!! I backed off, but I'm still grateful I got to see one in the wild!

  • Hey Jim ! Man I admire you. Im 18 and I've kept snakes since i was about 7 and I have a question for ya Jim. I actually wanna follow in your footsteps and I'm from ga not many people like snakes here but what's the best way to go about milking snakes like you.

  • @boaguy93 The best way is to get your Ph.D., and go from there.

  • Just saw that Jim was bitten about a year ago on the TV show "Fatal Attractions"; I hope he is doing well. I have a question re: the stilletto snake vid. Since posting there was disabled (I would assume because of the live feeding), I will ask my question here: How do you 'milk' the venom from such a snake if it is able to strike you if you tried to grasp it in a traditional manner?

Thanks, and look forward to more vids from you folks!

  • @AT304 They are very difficult to extract from-- in the past they have been anesthetized, we have also experimented some with using a tube and not using our hands at all.

  • Love this video !!!! it says it all about moral obligations to help others I just wish society wasn't so blind and ungrateful.

  • Good man, I respect him

  • Would love to visit you guys!! Just bad i live on the other side of the earth ):

  • Beautiful green mamba(s?).

  • @mustardofdoom Thanks.

  • I visited this zoo yesterday. They have just about every venomous snake that comes to mind including a Black Mamba..Well worth the admission price.

  • I really like the way Mr. Harrison handles the snakes, he is assertive enough to stay safe, and yet gentle enough to not hurt the animal. Where and with whom was he trained/ educated?

  • @Shivasavasana The late Mike Goode, Dr. Sherman Minton and Ross Allen.

  • exactly where is this reptile zoo i live in kentucky and never herd of it now after seein this i gotta go!

  • @colonel081 We are near Natural Bridge State Resort park. There are directions on our website just google ky reptile zoo.

  • How far from Cincinnati is Kentucky Reptile Zoo? I would love to visit!

  • How far from Cincinnati is Kentucky Reptile Zoo? I would love to visit!

  • @Rudi1034 We are about 2 hours from Cinci.

  • KRZ is truly one of my favorite places in the world.

  • No problem I love to talk but have to focus when extracting venom. so i don't talk much when I am doing it. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Take care.

  • you are great man !

  • Wow , you're cool man !"

  • The is a Great place!

  • this guy is a serious badass

  • I was suprised that most were cobra bites. Is it because people who work with them get complacent with their slower strikes? I'd expect to hear him getting bit by more vipers or faster elapids.

  • Numbers game. I extract from a lot more cobras then vipers.

  • This place is my dream vacation spot!!!

  • Wow! I wish you were closer to Philadelphia! My son and I would visit there at least once a month.

I like the way you think, too.

    Happy Holidays!

  • i live in louisville,ky and i have a question do they make an anti-venom for all venoms?

  • Most of the major venomous snakes have antivenom produced for their bite.

  • My mom has an old school teacher who has a condition where his spine is calcifying. Has there been any study on making medicine out of Stiletto snake venom. I saw on your video and on "I was Bitten" that there venom eat bone.

  • That is a really interesting question. I am unaware of any research in this direction with stiletto snakes; but it may be a direction to look into. Best wishes to your friend.

  • About how long does it take to get to you from Cincinnati? Is this a place that would be enjoyable for my kids, six and eight, or would it be better as a adult day trip? The kids are not real fond of reptiles, but are fine at the reptile house at Cinci. Zoo.

  • About two hours from Cincinnati. Check out our website for more info. Both children and adults can enjoy the zoo.

  • Wow!!! Great! Thanks for the answer. I'm so excited...there's a GREAT attraction so close that I never knew existed! We will see you soon.

  • wow the guy at the begining should consider a different form of employment, those snakes whopped his ass bad

  • He has been extracting venom for 33 years and averages 600 to 1000 a week. Yes he makes mistakes but has helped save many lives thru his work.

  • I've visited here at the KRZ once it was the coolest experience!

  • I love the red river gorge. I asked the question to the team there " What happens if you get bitten by a Copper head. Being 45 mins from ya car, and 1 hour from the close hosp. That's a long way form a hosp. I have panic attacts, and even if I didn't would I survive it? I love the Red River Gorge, but the copper heads are abuddent there. I worrie about hiking to far into the woods because of them. I've encountered 10+ since I've been going down there. They are agressive snakes, what should I do?

  • 1. Copperheads are not aggressive, no snake is. They will bite to defend themselves if you accidentally step on them or otherwise touch them...if you see it and stay away it will not bite you.

    2. It is VERY unlikely to die from a copperhead bite, just get out and go to the hospital. A bite is very painful but it is very unlikely to kill you- having said that you should never go into any woods alone- have a buddy along to help in case something happens.

    3. Clark Regional is only 30 mins away.

  • Wow Jim seems to be a great guy I have watched some of his shows in the past and seen his knowledge of reptiles demonstrated through shows and his work with reptiles he is truly a professional. I do not know if this is him that has posted this video but if it is I would like to be able to talk to you, I have been fascinated bye snakes my entire life and would love to get some kind of career involving snakes but have no idea what classes to take in college.

  • You can email him thru our website. it is listed on our profile. Thanks for the comment.

  • I've been going to the Gorge for over 15 years. I remember when they just had some chicken wire up with some rattlers and copperheads in there and for a buck you could take a look. I have visited the KRZ 4 or 5 times now "every time I go camping", and you guys are amazing. I've never meet you, only the girl. Hopefully next time I can meet you. Maybe ya can let me milk a mamba or something...NOT. Seriously everyone should try and visit here if you get a chance. They give really cool shows.

  • Thanks for the kind words!

  • Thanks!

  • i like you

    your a good guy

  • Oh, wow. I'd love to come and see you guys, just 50 miles from Lexington? I go to college here at Eastern Kentucky in Richmond. Maybe I can stop by sometime. Thank you for the work you do.

  • No, we are about 50 miles east of Lexington, near Natural Bridge State Resort Park. You can google us for directions; but basically take 64E to the Mtn. Parkway.

  • Dang, I would really love to come up there. Too bad you are on the wrong side of the state. I go to UT Martin (west Tenn) so im guessing it would take about 8 hours. I lost my finger to a Copperhead while relocating it at work, and thats after 80,000 dollars worth of CroFab.

Keep up the good work man, I really respect you. Hell, it might have been you that I got the CroFab from in the first place.

  • Are you guys located in Louisville? I live in Indiana what would be the quickest route there?

  • Hey, i saw you in the venomous issue of reptiles magazine and read the story about the black mamba at the dudes house, crazy. did ya really kick his door down. i would too if i had a mamba in my hand and the guy locked me in a room!!!

  • Yep, it really happened. I couldn't figure out any other way to get out of the room! Thanks for the comment.

  • big respekt!!

  • Great quality video! Well done!

  • Wow! You got zapped by a king and you're still walking? Maybe miracles CAN happen after all. Anyhow, this was a well done video, featuring lovely shots of the snakes, and a worldview more people should aspire to. I've definitely got to go to KY and see this for myself. P.S. I hate how Minnesota is so snake deficient. :(

  • No problem. My heart stopped and the doctors were able to restart it. The pain comes from the damage to tissue and nerves from the venom. Recovery often takes along time and some nerve damage has never healed.

    Thanks for your comment

  • not being a dick or anything, but you said you died and it hurt and you came back, well what happend?, if its a touchy subject then dont worry about replying. or just tell me its not something you want to talk about, but i like how you explain your way of looking at life and how snakes are important, i really liked and understood your video, if only there were more people like you this world wouldnt be so damn crazy, thanx and keep up the good work.

  • Hi Jim,

Great meeting you at Tim's place, thanks for the talk and insight & hope you guys had fun out there.

  • Had a great time visiting Texas. Was nice to meet other herpers and talk. If you get to Kentucky look us up.

    Jim

  • I'm deffinitely coming by oneday. I have a fascination with King Cobras.

Thank you for all you do to help people and to educate them about these wonderful animals.

  • Thanks! Hopefully we will see you here one day.

  • Great interview, hope I can come visit you guys someday. My 9 yr old budding herpetologist would enjoy it and so would I.

  • Always like meeting other herp people. Let us know when you might head this way maybe we can take you into the field.

  • You're a good man, Jim, in more ways than one. I hope I get a chance to come visit the KRZ again. I'll remember what you said about nature being like a house: I always try to educate people too.

  • Thanks.

  • awsome clip

  • omg this is amazing!!

  • yes is the bothrops venezuelensis i didn't knew the cientifical name

    isn't beatiful?

  • Very much so.

  • ca u read my message please verry impotant

  • Just did. Sometimes it takes time to answer because we have so many snakes. Take care.

  • You're a great inspiration in many ways, Jim.

If I ever get the chance to visit KY I'd definitely love to stop by and meet you.

    Take care, best wishes.

Anyway I live in the U.K and Im 13, almost 14 I love ALL HERPS!!!! - I keep hermit crabs and a tortoise but also I used to keep a turtle, I love field herping, you think I've got what it takes to be a Herper / Herpetologist??

Anyway I love your work and I wish the kentucky Reptile zoo was In the U.k lol.

    - And btw I hope You dont die lol.

    Good luck with your reaserch

    Joe.

  • We have been on NG Snake wranglers ,AP and PBS several times. Thanks for the comment. I hope I don't die either. Take care Jim

  • ok no problem, but do you think I could do field herping?

  • If you are focused and do lots of research .Field herping is safe and fun. Read lots of books and find a Herp society with people willing to teach. Also keep an open mind to what others researchers say. We all can learn alot by listening.

    Good luck

    Jim

  • Hey Jim, I saw you and your wife on Snake Wranglers and you are an awsome indivisual. Brave.

  • Thanks. Not brave maybe a little stubborn. I want to find ways to help man and animals.

    Take care

    Jim

  • I had a pygmy rattlesnake but it ended up getting a tumor which I didn't know anyone or anyhow to get it off without it being in pain. So I utheranized it. Now I am currently waiting for my friends gial eggs to hatch so I can get some cbb gials.
