  • actuallty the ice is on the rock not in the water..

  • Are you a ruhtard? The ocean level rises because the ice that melts isn't IN the ocean.

  • Oceans rise because of on-land glaciers melting.. surely you aren't that retarded?

  • I did not yet watch the video. But your statement about rising ocean levels show a lack of understanding. When ice that's in water melts, it does not have much of an affect on water levels. Water is unlike other frozen materials that when it melts it gets much smaller. Did you ever have ice in your glass of water melt and then see it overflow? Try it and then read your statement and make corrections. Show us that you now understand.

  • @bekermario What you're saying seems to support my theory that melting ice would not make the ocean levels rise. There is a finite amount of water on planet earth, so the idea of rising ocean levels is absurd when you think about it.

  • @basspig As an engineer, and project manager in nuclear and the general automation industry, I get involved in projects involving how things work. Many claims AGW claims made by NAOO and IPCC are mis information that's based on "Trust us, we're peer reviewed" From their temperature adjustment algorithms to the way they word summaries. The IPCC presumes an outcome and then looks for evidence that seems to prove the outcome. They can come to no other conclusion. This is mock science.

  • @bekermario I don't trust most of these government 'think tanks' because of their many pecuniary interests. Usually, there is a lot of money to be funneled into someone's pockets when these studies result in laws.

My video here is more tongue-in-cheek than serious science, but the spirit of it is to illustrated the silliness of AGW. Sure, the earth is warming, but so is Mars! It's the Sun's falt. And just wait till the big solar storms hit next year. We live in interesting times!

  • @basspig Yes - it's hard when so many people cannot "think" for themselves, so they agree across party lines, which precludes any thoughts of their own. There are so many 1/2 truths on boths sides of the isle that the arguing could go on forever. I am sick of people making claims that, "The scientist all agree." Really? Not too long ago people believed in witches too. And then there are those who are offended by facts like melting ice cubes not raising water levels!

  • A study was recently released,it was conducted by the Pacific Island Geoscience Commission it took 60yrs to complete. Its aim to see if the Islands are sinking.27 islands were studied-most remain stable whilst some have increased land mass!! In 930AD when Gunnbjorn discovered Greenland it was just that-GREEN! This was during a natural warm period now we are in a cold period.Expect more record low temperatures and snow and wet cooler summers.

  • Anyone concerned with global warming please answer this.... why have Mars, the moons of Jupiter, Neptune et al. been warming in close ratio to the earth if it is caused by man. Maybe the source of all heat is warming... hmmmmm, ignore the common sense and science just believe the carbon tax propoganda.

  • Your experiment fails. what about all the ice on land? the ice that is miles thick? try doing an experiment with ice on dirt or rock then melt it and see what happens.

  • Holy fucking christ you are an idiot. Anybody that has taken high school physics knows that melting ice will not raise the water level. Melting land-based ice, on the other hand, will add water to the oceans, raising the water level.

Also, water expands when the temperature rises (unless you are near the freezing point). This can also contribute to sea level rise. Get a clue.

  • "There's nothing wrong with the planet, the planet's fine... the people are fucked! "

  • Ocean levels have been rising steadily rising for the last 10,000 years you dumb liberal cock eating dickheads, why the fuck do you find entire cities under 200 feet of water?

What caused the sea level to rise 3000 years ago? all those stone age coal burning electrical plants?

I swear, libtards are the most gullible fucking ignorant ball swallowing retards on the planet.

  • While I resist the hysteria of global warming, you show your ignorance as the threat is from ice sheets on land, as the sea based ice melts there is less to hold the land based ice in place. In Antartica there are ice sheets on land over a thousand miles long and a couple thousand feet deep. There is the threat to rising seas. Please be aware of science before touting such stupidity.

  • Only the ice that breaks off or melts from land, i.e. the Greenland ice sheet, Antarctic ice sheet, and mountain glaciers can raise sea level. But 1 meter by 2100 and the cause? The planet has been heating and cooling since it's birth. There is nothing we humans can do about that. Hence the political use of this scare is nothing more than a massive power grab and a call for genicide of 3/4 of the world's population.

  • I agree, but the debate is not helped when psudo-science on either side is put forth. The fact is land based ice sheet could impact sea levels, contrary to the video. The cause for warming is up for debate.

  • how do you explain the terrible floods inthe philippines europe and other places . mr. oil company nuthugger.

  • rain clouds

  • @minteko LMFAO

  • thanks for video. oil company nuthugger. ha

  • What about the ice sheets on Antarctica and Greenland? They are not displacing water like polar ice caps.

  • Exactly the Archimedes' Principle does not apply to Antarctica and Greenland as they are grounded ice sheets!

  • The truth is there are no such thing as weather experts. they can't even tell you with complete accuracy what is going to happen next week let alone 30 years from now, I just don't give these scientist that much credit they have been proven time and time again wrong and have to modify their theories over and over again, these kinds of warnings have existed since forever and nothing ever happens and we always seem to fall for it.

  • lol, this is the worst anti-global warming video I have ever seen. whoever created this video obviously did not do basic high school science. I thought everyone knew that the density of ice is less than liquid water?? Obviously not... unfortunately, this video put in a few blocks of ice into a container. the water definitely rose, however, due to the width of the container, it is impossible to see. There are so many better arguments why global warming might be false, but this is horrible!

  • the Palin Zombies are taking over the Earth.before long we will all be infected.the World will be Flat and the Sun will once again revolve around the Earth.and the Zombies wil have proof that Humans just like the Flintstones were cavorting with Dinosaurs.

  • Ice that is sticking out of water will add more water when melted. Ice that is already in water won't add more water, maybe tiny bit, but almost nothing. The ice on poles are above sea level, solid ice. If you bring that ice and put in see it's gonna take that much space pushing the water. This experiment is bull shit.

  • I mean, ice already floating in water, won't add water, because it's already taking that space. But if you bring ice from another place and put it in water the level is going to rise. Most ice is on lands not on sea. If the ice on lands melt they flow down and add water to sea.

  • Not sure I agree with you here. For your analogy to be realistic the water would have had to freeze then the land lift it all out of the water. I don't see why you expect the force that the water exerts on the fresh ice to vanish. I see this theory thrown around alot though. That it's on land not in the sea. I could understand old compacted snow building up, but the yearly ice melt really should stop being blamed on global warming. That has everything to do with the tilt of our axi, imo.

  • i totally agree. take an iceberg, all of it's mass is in the water, like the ice cubes, resulting in no change in water level. but there is land under the ice that makes up the polar ice caps, when it melts, that water is then added to the ocean, leaving the only dispute being, by how much it will rise, not if it will at all.

  • Being above or below sea level doesn't matter. This experiement depends on the ice being freely suspended in water with no other force acting on it except for the water, compared to ice that has another force acting on it. If you were to suspend the ice out of the water on a tray the melt would cause the water level in the tank to rise. If the ice is freely floating it has already displaced the amount of water it is going to.

  • The thing is that there is a lot of ice in the polar caps. Not all of the ice that is present in the ice caps will remain at the poles. When the ice moves north and south, the oceans will simply have more watter.

  • still I disagree if you are saying that the melting of the ice caps aren't rising sea levels you are actually defing all natural laws of physics as the ice melts the sea levelwill rise but not by a drastic expanse and the water will spread but also LAND ICE dose affect it to and you are partially right but...

  • Why would they? If the water exists in the ocean in the summer time, freely floating, already displacing all the space its going to, not raising sea level, why do you expect it to suddenly be dangerous once it forms for the pole and connects to land? The polar ice caps melt and refreeze yearly. You guys have absolutely no science behind your theory in my opinion. Land ice which I believe is also refered to as glaciers could be a problem, but get off the polar ice cap wagon.

  • This documentary is retarded. Environmental Scientists fear that ice caps melting adds water into the ocean currents which drastically change weather patterns (as seen through rises in hurricanes and droughts). No one is claiming this rises sea levels, only this idiot. What does rise sea levels is the melting of LAND ICE glaciers (Northern Canada, Northern Europe, Greenland ect..) which causes water to run off continental land, that raises sea levels...that can displace millions of people.

  • Stop getting your science from The Day After Tomorrow please. I guess I can't blame you though. NASA wrote an article about this ridiculous "possibility", but let's take the fact they didn't even call it a theory speak for itself.

Everything you said is misleading. There is no evidence glacial ice melt will affect ocean currents, sea level averages remain unchanged over 100 years, nor is there any evidence the northern glaciers are melting.

  • You sound like those guys who make a living based on oil and coal and other conventional energy. But, where is your scientific evidence of your theories that global warming and the ice melting and rising sea levels are hoax and scam? But I think we should move towards clean energy and keep our planet clean no matter what, even if global warming is a hoax.

  • No. I have no commercial bias. Why are you guys asking me for evidence? Where is your evidence it is happening? This is media propaganda my friend. Do google searches with an open mind and look at how bad they manipulate the reality of the situation. Granted, there are some unanswered and strange things happening with our enviroment, but we are jumping to conclusions. The MMGW camp is anti-science. They started with a conclusion and are now working backwards to make their "facts".

  • I agree with you. I'm all about clean energy. Geothermal, solar, tide, wave. All these could used right now. What pisses me off so much about this and where my bias does come from is the taxes we are about to get tagged with using a scientific theory. A theory. Not a fact. We have not gathered enough data to prove MMGW. The data we have currently does not support it.

  • You seem like a very intelligent person and you are well versed in science. But I think you should realize the understanding of Science's distinction between the word "theory", "hypothesis", "fact" and "law", compared to the English language's understanding, or Law's understanding, or even other science's understanding's of those words. I think its safe to say that Global Climate Destabilization (which it should be called) is beyond its stage as a hypothesis, as it is widely accepted/supported

  • I wonder how all those US and Soviet submarines managed to travel under the polar ice cap? This rock supposedly under the ice upon which the polar cap supposedly sits must be a magical rock to allow submarines to pass though it yes?

In the middle ages the temperature in France for example was 7ºf HIGHER than today. This was a time of unparalleled prosperity and life, where Greenland was farmland. If the world ever actually starts heating up, it will be a wonderful thing.

  • its not the floating ice that will cause the ocean to rise it is all the ice on greenland, 2 miles thick over 800,000 square miles, that would make the ocean rise 20 feet, we could get another 20 foot rise if west antartic melted. Once the sea ice melts, the melting in these two places accelerates

  • and bass pig in m not a scientist or anything but (causing a barely perceptable increase in level.) over the span of the whole world is sure to fuck somthin up as far a precipitation and tempature that would probably reek havoc on every living thing on the planet.

  • The Sea level is not the REAL concern with global warming. The REAL CONCERN is the polar ice caps ability to reflect sunlight. Without the caps in place more sunlight stays in the atmosphere building heat and making. Slight variations in temperature are disasterous to coral reefs. This is an example of how increased temperature can disrupt food webs and greatly decrease biodiversity.

  • The earth is a changing place. I much doubt that humans could do much either way to stop a natural trend that has been going on since the earth's beginning.

If one believes that greenhouse gas is going to bring the end of the world on, then the first thing one should go after is air travel, with the thousands of jets spewing billions of cubic feet of gasses into the upper atmosphere hourly.

Many modifies the earth to suit HIS needs. The earth is there for man to make use of.

  • Bass I agree 100%..punish the people who globetrot for pure pleasure instead of picking on the people trying to make a living..

  • No one at all needs to be "punished." But if outmoded energy technologies are polluting us and our environment, incentives to develop and adopt clean energy should be offered. Greenhouse gas is just a convenient (pun intended) way to blame humans to guilt and frighten us into giving up more control to fewer interests.

  • I dont agree with putting horse power limiting catalytic converters on cars..hurting horsepower and gas mileage..while 1 bus /dumptruck spew more pollution than 30 cars..yet only the cars (small guy) is regulated..same logic can be used for planes..there is no pollution regulation on planes..yet the small guy is controlled by driving his car

  • @drouin916 The affect of libido in the polar regions is tiny... melting ice caps caused by natural fluctuations has little affect since its libido reflects much less energy into space compared to near the equator... about 17% or less in fact. But don't forget that because the earth warms is not proof that CO2 created by man caused it. Please be open about this and research non politically motivated science. Grow and learn my friend - be open. I love this planet too.

  • This video proves that once ice mets while sitting in water nothing happens. Now - put ice on top of the rock, like the ice is in the arctic, let it melt and see what happens. I guarantee you the water will rise.

  • And if they melt WATER WILL RISE

    try and debunk that

  • Debunk this source

The Northpole is proberly gone in a month, if it not happen yet.

Source Geofysiker Mark Serreze from National Snow and Ice Data Center i Colorado.

In Greenland and Southpole is enough water too rise the water 60 meter

  • Meaningless statement. The amount of ice on land is microscopic compared to the volume of ocean (covers 3/4 of the planet). Even if somehow it all melted, much of it would evaporate into the air, and the rest into the ocean, causing a barely perceptable increase in level. Ice is largely filled with... AIR bubbles, so it's melted volume is MUCH less than it's apparent frozen volume.

  • try putting the ice on top of the rock, smarty pants.

  • excellent video!
