What a stupid tv report. It was obvious that they had no clue what they were talking about.
The track was indeed rented by a group of Ferrari enthusiasts. On the segment where the accident occurred was also the entry zone from the pits to the track. The driver of the Carrera GT reportedly had to swerve to avoid an entering Ferrari, which was given the allowance to go onto the track despite the Porsche approaching. The placement of the concrete barrier is indeed tragic.
No stock road car would've provided the sort of protection needed for the occupants to survive. A purpose-built racing tub would have provided ample protection, even if that had been a square head-on impact. Pretty obvious that it was too much car for the skill set of this poor driver. Goes to show that just because you're rich enough to buy one doesn't mean you're actually good enough to DRIVE one.
@993isgawd and what if he did know how to drive one, and it simply was a mechanical failure or just an accident. Because being a good driver obviously doesnt make you invincable.
To anyone else that views this video. If you look from 0:38-1:29 you will notice 2 very large white concrete barriers that have been pushed over 4 feet back, in addition to one being knocked over. Those barriers weigh in excess of 2,000 lbs. each. The amount of energy necessary to move them in such a manner. I doubt even a current 2011 F1 chassis or Sprint Cup chassis could fare well against that wall. The location is just after the infield "kink". My guess is the driver over-compensated.
Needless accident, and not necessarily because the driver was a doofus with no sense of his limited abilities relative to the car's lofty ones -- I mean we all overcook it now and again. There should have been a gravel trap and the wall looks badly placed and poorly angled.
dumbass. driver´s daughter was just a few month old when she lost her dad. ben keaton was a great guy and is still missed by all of his friends. maybe you should try to use your brain BEFORE using the keyboard.
Unbelivable how dangerous this racetrack is! Even the Nürburgring Nordschleife has Tirewalls in almost every corner... The top of all is: They let tourists in streetlegal cars drivin on it. This was really a matter of time... :(
I don't think they died because of G because in that case the car should have been completely smashed what hasn't really happened here. Neck and head injuries I think.
Well this video is another proof that HANS saves lives. I'm guessing the seat belt didn't do much at 200 MPH, they probably died from neck injuries RIP.
I remember this event as I was told while serving as a local officer in the Porsche Club of America...it was a few years back and the driver's family tried to file suit against Porsche because they claim it is marketed as a street legal race car. They also filed suit against the track because the wall placement is notorious right there. I believe they also filed suit against the Ferrari owner's club that hosted them saying that they did not provide proper instruction as a D.E. event.
I like how the news tried to make it sound like it's reckless driving without saying it. Kept saying they rented the track to race around going to bout 200mph like stfu skank rather them do 200mph on the track than on the high way
the GT looks not so bad...i mean, the driver-cell was still intakt....i think that the G-force kill the people.....the impact musst be very hard...lookt at the wall....R.I.P.
