I think you are talking about the cultural difference, however; all people deserve to have the same kind of liberty and civil right. And that is not doubtful. You should think about it, if the people in North Korea deserve to have the better treatment. Cultural difference is not the excuse of all those unfair treatment.

1. Are you not aware from China side that the administrative framework must not violate the principles laid down in the Basic Law which in effect not a part of the national constitution of the mainland. They are just a bunch of rules for administrating the SAR. Is it not clear about the recipe for the governance? In essence, the retention of functional seats in Legco, prescribed direct election and the loyalty to the country are the laid down infrastructure of our system.

2. Hong Kong has the kind of democracy benefiting its long term development and stability. Democracy is an ideology of many behaviors or rules. Every country can choose the respective bunch that suit their own national need. Hong Kong is a free city enjoying the prestige of free trade and stability in the governance.

3. But Hong Kong has a number of civil problems such as wealth allocation, education, housing, etc. Amid all these, our CE must take control and steer our boat to move forward steadily. Political reform must be made in a progressive manner. Economy first and politics second.

If you alter the political arrangement too drastically, Hong Kong will have the risk to be destabilized by the ambitious politicians whose hearts are usually in the place too much obsessed by the social welfare betterment, with too little on the economy. That will be put HK in jeopardy. Having said so much, what are your views and how much do you know about demo in a narrow sense concerning HK?

5. I supplement one more thing to the above by stressing on the economy first. If we alter the two priorities to allow politics go atop economy, our current advantages edges in trade will be edged out and down. Then, our social life as well as the so called civil rights will be tightened if not bankrupt. Think carefully before any change to take place.

but dun forget economy and political are interdependent factor. Govt will act as a party which will balance the interest of different parties in the society.

Parties who get most vote shows the society has confident in them in maintaining their relevant interest in the society.

Interest= wealth=economy.
