@TheMiserablegit Often true but not here. The driver must have the cylinder drain cocks open when moving off. This allows steam which has condensed as water to escape. Water is not compressible so failure to do this will result in the cylinder ends being knocked out by the action of the pistonds ramming the water against the ends of the cylinder (MASSIVE sledge hammer efect).
Smashing pressurised cylinders is expensive and dangeous to anyone in the path of flying lups of cast iron!
im surprised there are less views than there are for this video one of the rare video's showing how things would have looked that engines werent cleaned at every long stop... i think it looks silly at all heritage railways how all the engines are sparkly clean 24/7 on running days they should let a few of them get a bit grubby to give the proper impression of what it was like

Typical. The fireman creates lots of steam and then the driver wastes most of it for dramatic effect.

The BR1F tenders suit 9Fs best I think, but two fine beasts for sure. The slightly weathered look is good too. Not too polished!
