Wow he sounds totally awesome!! Amazing how he comes right out and starts tapping......I like his tone, nice and full..........it's easy to see how creative he is;he has such a wide range of tones, and can pull them out on demand, shape them by stretching, twisting, bending notes with so much authority, you can easily see he's the best.......He didn't invent tapping;he RE-Invented the way it was/is used in a solo..along with everything else he does..Truly awesome and amazing!!
ihavd; everyone else I listen to sounds plain(Too plain and simple) compared to Ed;maybe 1 or 2 players sound decent, but on the whole, nobody is as good as ed......He makes the guitar come alive and gives it a real soul ,unlike everybody else...what particularly is flawed in my opinion?
hey toke912,i said as a MAIN SOURCE OF SOLOING!read what i said, and your mother is a dipshit!asshole!!did randy ever ever do a tapping solo that lasted more than 30 seconds, fuck no...so YOUR THE DIPSHIT!!!.AND WHAT I SAID IS TRUTH!
Behaving badly? He is barley being arrogant. I've seen musicians 10000x more arrogant. I understand that he is drunk but he is acting relativley normal.
one again..eddie van halen INVENTED tapping as a beautifull way to express ones self with a blareing electric guitar, explain yourself, who else used two handed tapping as a main source of soloing on the guitar BEFORE eddie van halen, give me one name, then i will search you tube to find the footage...wont find it though...ha..you suck.
and i cant believe you said capitalized on it freakandfrak, you must be gay,how the hell is he going to get his name known,by playing on the streets, another idiot trying to use big words to make himself sound correct...you suck, wanna battle me at electric guitar?name the place, ill set your ass on fire beeeeaaaaaccccchhhh!!

hey cosmic bum, when did hendrix put out an all guitar album?also...i challenge you to guitar duel anytime anywhere!no clue?after i smoke your ass during our contest you will be left scratching your head looking for all kinds of clues on what the fuck just happened!
I also agree with what was said earlier;EVH started were hendrix left off;vai and satch are just students of Eddie..........EVH is truly the master, and EVERYBODY else follows behind him
continued:and it showed in his many lackluster performances(hendrix),i think hendrix wanted to sound like what eddie did sound like, eddie just picked up where hendrix left off and ran with it,and busted the finish line tape.
im glad you agree,i have been playing electric guitar for 19 years now and have studied all of the greats and feel my comments hold water,o yea and and i love the fact that he has a smile on his face the whole time while playing, after all music makes all of us happy doesnt it?eddiie is the fountain of knowledge all of us guitarist drink from, hendrix just wasnt a happy person a lot of the time
The way you compare Eddie and Jimi it makes me think you have no clue about Musicality - the sheer depth and inventiveness of Jimi's creative output eclipses Eddie's body of work. Eddie is a 'Rock' guitar fireball, his playing is a one-dimensional expression of pure-energy. Every note burns.
After all these years Eddie has not put out a 'guitar' album
that would showcase his diverse guitar technique..... because it doesn't exist. He is who he is - A guitar Phenomena- Great!!
but just remember hendrix did not have much to work with as far as tone because his equipment was so primitive, but again there is two number ones as far as electric guitar,mr eddie van halen and the late great james marshall hendrix hands down, steve vai and joe satriani are just students to both(especially eddie)and im sure they whould both tell you that.
Yep. Eddie WAS Jimi reborn into a white guy, i think. No one has inspired as many since or in between the the time Jimi died and Eddie was discovered. Jeff Beck was probably the best we had in those 7 years. and is still phenomenal today.
oh yea, when i said one of the best guitarist in the world, thats an understatement,he is and probrably always will be the best (electric)guitar player in this world, although you have to really take your hat of to hendrix because he was the whole package(sang and played and wrote beautifull songs and so inovative)they are tie for first place as far as im concerned
theres no excuses, whats more important?the drugs or the music?its a damm shame,he needs a david hasselhoff recollection video to watch himself in this condition,he is one of the greatest guitar players in the world and its his job to stay on top of his game, with all that said i have no room to judge mr van halen because he acomplished more than i will ever in my life and the next one as a guitar player,i just wish him all the best, his music will live healthy forever and inspire
Incredible that he has to have 2 handlers and then can't even play a song straight through. I can't tell when the warm-up stops and the "song" starts. What a shame.......... I could hear this in any local Guitar Center.
incredible for just picking up a guitar, and jamming on the spot, plus as he stated,he didn't play for like 6 months...........he's a genius,so original, and Awesome, everyone else pales in comparison
wow. where is ritchie blackmore when you need him?. He is as far away from this piece of shit guitarist as you can get. Eddie lived of those hammer-ons, which he did not invent. Les Paul did thirty-years before you heard Mr. VH. do them. Give me a break. Never compare this man to the all time greats. He knows how to play a guitar. but he does not know how to play music. I know, all you guitar wizards can play. Just because you can get a hard-on and fuck. doesnt mean you know how to make love.
gethsenamane: ,please educate yourself, evh is THE all-time great;Anybody with half a brain knows this man is the best there ever was/is....hammer-ons were only part of his talents..wich he re-invented.....don't forget the pinched harmonics......awesome tone, screams, dives etc.all of wich were done to a T; perfect in every way, shape, and feel. He mastered everything perfectly, and put it togetherlike a genius You must be a First class asshole to make a comment like that,or you're real fuckin' stupid
He's only F'ing around on an unknown guitar, an impromptu, almost forced exhibition. Those present were lucky to witness it. Had it been a prepared event he would've left the people with there jaws wide open, even today. Eddie is bored with the "usual",he is constantly getting different sounds out of his guitars, HE IS AWESOME. One of the most original since Hendrix. (Note I say one of the most,I know tons of you will be coming back with all sorts of greats, but most likely EDDIE inspired them.)
Hey snapperhead, I'm a guitar player and an Eddie fan of about 25 years. If you think anything in this video represents an ounce of his "incredible talents" then you are as messed up as Eddie was in this video. So what? he didn't play for 6 months. Did he not know he was going to be playing at the NAMM show? He was drunk and high. That's his only excuse.
he's just practicing guitar like he would in his home studio. bet he didn't even warm up for the day because he gets better as you go through these "embarassing videos". awesome LOL
hes huamn. i tend to argue that dude.. he plays the same 22 frets i play. am i saying he's better than i am? hell no. hes an awsome rhythm composer and song writer, and an even better inventer for his time. he made himself famous due to his inovations and spin offs of what rock should have been in the mid 70's.
hell, he started out delivering papers every morning paying for his drumset which his brother was playing because eddie wasnt there.
It would be so cool to be in that crowd and shout out requests to EVH. I'd ask him to play the main riff to From Afar off of VHIII. Either that or just yell out, SHRED! COME ON FASTER, FASTER!
Firstly COP DVincentW it's MR. Fopp to you.And I quote:Ya have just "a bunch of really clumsy HALF ASSED Favorites"?
Hummm...Let's see...Shawn Lane,Rusty Cooley,Christophe Godin,Guthrie Govan,John Lee Hooker,Sun House,Robert Johnson,Eric Clapton,Pete Townshend,Johnny Winter,George Throughgood and oh, I almost forgot Jimi.Yep that sounds like a real clumsy half assed guitar Favorites lineup to me...doesn't it everyone?Douchebag COP.
Good, now that the COP who THINKS he's a musician has vanished, I can continue.Anybody who would knock a groundbreaking group such as Blue Cheer is a buffoon.BTW,I was commenting on Ed's guitar being out, which is a valid observation.EVH was an outstanding guitarist and innovator in the 80's and I loved what he contributed. And DVincent? You sir are benighted.Where the fuck is your ASCAP catalog and credits? They don't exist because you are too busy busting people at your real job during the day COP.
I'm not a musician? You arent a musician. You have no freinds here, and bunch of really clumsy half-assed favorites. I am not falling for your little fight here. I am a third generation musician. You cant take that from me. You're not my boss. YOU ARE SO WRONG.You have no talent and you should be at a rave. No more replies from me, FOPP! Yes youre blocked. BLAH BLAH BLAH. No talent FOPP!
I love Van Halen and one of the reasons I do is because they kept it fun. At this point in time Eddie took himself way too seriously and the puppy dogs who sat there clapping and wooing all the while just make me sick. If Eddie was down and out they wouldn't give two shits about him. This is really sad.
This isn't that bad. The vid quality isn't that good. But you can't really judge the sound cause like I said, the video quality is shit. Anything he did would sound bad.

He's an awesome player, but showing up drunk to a sponsor's show is so unprofessional! You'd think he'd have more respect for himself and them.
I don't care how you excuse it. He obviously would have sounded better if he was sober.
I'm not saying by any means I can do anything he can, but you can tell the alcohol is effecting his ability to play as good as he can play.
And he sounds like a moron rambling on drunk to the audience while he's representing the manufacturer.

No. Randy wasn't tapping "on record" before VH DIPSHIT!. VH1 with Eruption came out in '78. Randy was with Quiet Riot then.

Well, half white, half asian lol, but good point!

oh, yeah- his mother was Indonesian. forgot that. I guess Jimmy Page is half Chinese too. You can see it in his face.

oh yea, when i said one of the best guitarist in the world, thats an understatement,he is and probrably always will be the best (electric)guitar player in this world, although you have to really take your hat of to hendrix because he was the whole package(sang and played and wrote beautifull songs and so inovative)they are tie for first place as far as im concerned
6l2k0855 3 years ago
theres no excuses, whats more important?the drugs or the music?its a damm shame,he needs a david hasselhoff recollection video to watch himself in this condition,he is one of the greatest guitar players in the world and its his job to stay on top of his game, with all that said i have no room to judge mr van halen because he acomplished more than i will ever in my life and the next one as a guitar player,i just wish him all the best, his music will live healthy forever and inspire

man this is painfull to watch glad hes back on point
geekneek 3 years ago
Incredible that he has to have 2 handlers and then can't even play a song straight through. I can't tell when the warm-up stops and the "song" starts. What a shame.......... I could hear this in any local Guitar Center.
mbhafn1 3 years ago
incredible for just picking up a guitar, and jamming on the spot, plus as he stated,he didn't play for like 6 months...........he's a genius,so original, and Awesome, everyone else pales in comparison
humbucker01 3 years ago
wow. where is ritchie blackmore when you need him?. Just because you can get a hard-on and fuck. doesnt mean you know how to make love.
gethsenamane 3 years ago
gethsenamane: ,please educate yourself, evh is THE all-time great;Anybody with half a brain knows this man is the best there ever was/is....hammer-ons were only part of his talents..wich he re-invented.....don't forget the pinched harmonics......awesome tone, screams, dives etc.all of wich were done to a T; perfect in every way, shape, and feel. He mastered everything perfectly, and put it togetherlike a genius You must be a First class asshole to make a comment like that,or you're real fuckin' stupid

don't forget his amazing rhythm playing!

Same here. It's tragic to see one of your child hood heroes been fucked over by addictions. He's a mess.
He plays like someone who's been awake for 5 days straight which he probably was.
DeluxeReissue 3 years ago
He's only F'ing around on an unknown guitar, an impromptu, almost forced exhibition. Those present were lucky to witness it. Had it been a prepared event he would've left the people with there jaws wide open, even today. Eddie is bored with the "usual",he is constantly getting different sounds out of his guitars, HE IS AWESOME. One of the most original since Hendrix. (Note I say one of the most,I know tons of you will be coming back with all sorts of greats, but most likely EDDIE inspired them.)

I bet its harder for him to play in front of a small bunch of people like this than it is to record or play live.

He sounds like a kid that should be asked to leave the Guitar Center
1killahead 3 years ago 7
1killahead; no "kid" can do what he does....sounds like you're a kid who's jealous of his incredible talents
humbucker01 3 years ago
Hey snapperhead, I'm a guitar player and an Eddie fan of about 25 years. If you think anything in this video represents an ounce of his "incredible talents" then you are as messed up as Eddie was in this video. So what? he didn't play for 6 months. Did he not know he was going to be playing at the NAMM show? He was drunk and high. That's his only excuse.
1killahead 3 years ago
Not to bad for being shit faced drunk ,Ive been there too!Ha! Ha!It is hard to get inspired.
poindexter3000 3 years ago
he's just practicing guitar like he would in his home studio. bet he didn't even warm up for the day because he gets better as you go through these "embarassing videos". awesome LOL
Activethrasher00 3 years ago
despite everyone criticizing his playing. he's still better than any of us can ever dream to be, and for that he deserves a hand.
Dustinmfd 3 years ago 4
Agreed, Eddie Vanhalen on his worse day is better than the average player on his BEST day.
stillwaterseven 3 years ago
hes huamn. i tend to argue that dude.. he plays the same 22 frets i play. am i saying he's better than i am? hell no. hes an awsome rhythm composer and song writer, and an even better inventer for his time. he made himself famous due to his inovations and spin offs of what rock should have been in the mid 70's.
hell, he started out delivering papers every morning paying for his drumset which his brother was playing because eddie wasnt there.
it would be cool to jam with him on "any" day.
evhgl87 3 years ago
It would be so cool to be in that crowd and shout out requests to EVH. I'd ask him to play the main riff to From Afar off of VHIII. Either that or just yell out, SHRED! COME ON FASTER, FASTER!
zackvanhalen 3 years ago
I love Eddie, but I gotta admit, in some of these clips he does seem like a dick. But the playing from 41 sec on is pretty bad ass.
I don't care if he's an ass or not, still my hero!!

BrimptonFopp 3 years ago
Good, now that the COP who THINKS he's a musician has vanished, I can continue.Anybody who would knock a groundbreaking group such as Blue Cheer is a buffoon.BTW,I was commenting on Ed's guitar being out, which is a valid observation.EVH was an outstanding guitarist and innovator in the 80's and I loved what he contributed. And DVincent? You sir are benighted.Where the fuck is your ASCAP catalog and credits? They don't exist because you are too busy busting people at your real job during the day COP.
BrimptonFopp 3 years ago
Oh BTW DVW...the only reason you think I'm a lawyer..is because you're a COP.

EVH nasty forevah!Sweet riffing w/ soul.
thanks for posting this.
He is only being himself and if theres a problem, watch something else.

hey Fopp... post something of you playing then you'll get the steam off someones shit.
If thats out of tune, you must be a lawyer.
Thats why you like Blue Cheer.

Actually, any musician could hear that.Obviously you are not one.BTW, NEVER heard Blue Cheer out.But Eddie??? More often than not.

EVH "Shreds" !
