much better football in those days the sides were on a level par and anyone on their day could beat anyone else...tony currie fantastic player..how many england caps did he get...was it 2 or something...ridiculous
my fave was McDermott's but then I support Liverpool and it was the last goal in a 7-0 thrashing. I just love the speed of it from Johnson playing the ball out to Heighway who crosses it 1st time for McDermott who's run about 80 yeards
I loved football in the 70s but I hate it now. I can't stand all the prima donnas, the WAGS, the bling, the diving, the stupid wages, the foreign owned clubs, the greed & the ungrateful players. I'm glad I was born in the 60s so I was able to watch football with more purity. I also prefered Brian Moore to the motor mouth commentators of today.
@whitbyjet65 So true! Commentators today need to learn that sometimes less is more - they don't need to be talking all the time, let the football do the talking. Half the 'experts' talk complete crap and are just filling space that doesn't need filling.
@whitbyjet65 I totally agree, I too was born in the 60's (1968 to be exact), and everything you say is 100% correct. Today's footballers are grossly overpaid, and too many of them are diving, cheating wimps. Unfortunately too much money has corrupted football.
My god!! i still remember watching this live on tv and sending a post card, took my dads advice and voted for the Liverpool goal, although my favourite at the time was Toni Currys!! thanks for posting...what a blast from the past....
I was at the Racecourse that day to see Pop Robson hit that goal. He later admitted it was the best goal he ever scored. Amazing game which Wrexham won 4-3. The Len Cantello goal would be my choice as I tend to prefer team goals. Regis would be my second choice. The Robson and McDermott goals suffer a little from defences not doing their jobs. So who did win? Thanks for posting!
Oh WHAT A GOAL........BOING BOING

It might just be the hairstyle (or lack thereof) but he looks so much like Bryan Robson (Goal D)

I don't often get nostalgic, or indeed comment on Youtube, but I remember seeing this very compilation at the time, brings a little tear to my eye...

Laurie Cunningham - The Black Pearl. What a brilliant player he was. R.I.P. Laurie - it was a privilege to see you play.

Thanks for posting this video clip. All great goals from 1978/79. As a very biased West Brom supporter I would probably choose Len Cantello's goal.
