1. Okami tried to shoot once and got stuffed, plus his take-downs mostly consist of him getting his opponent in the clinch first(and he failed trying that too). So no, he did try to take Silva down, but he couldn't.

2. A strait jab does have the power to knock someone down if its unexpected. In both fights Silva caught his opponent off guard. Also, Okami didn't give up, he fell(stuned) and Silva pounced on top of him and beat him until ref stopped it.

@uddaside - I like ASilva a lot. IMO he's the p4p best fighter. However, you have to question the power of that punch and why Okami would give up that easily. Perhaps Okami gave up mentally because Silva is just that good. But I really doubt that, especially at a championship bout. ASilva makes a lot of fighters look really bad, like his match with Damein Maiea sp. But in that fight Maia didn't give up. He just didn't have the tools to beat Silva.

I think it's been shown time and time again, (Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen), that the only type of fighter to have a shot at defeating Silva, is a great wrestler. Okami attempted what, one half ass take down... People count GSP out, but we all know he is one of the best wrestlers out there, and he walks around at 200lbs, so I'm not quite sure he's "too small" to beat Silva.
