  • BRUCE AND PAUL!

  • Hey!!! That's the Omni in Oakland CA!!! Damn! I don't have any excuse for missing this show!!!

  • This is a true work of art.

Not something that can be said for most shredding.

John Alderete is one of my favorite bass players, for sure.

  • wow,so fcking awesome,

    Unique Bass too

  • Who's playing bass?

  • @longslidenyc John Alderete

  • Damn I wish I had super powers like these guys, Even the freaking Bass Player is fucking shredding like a god.

  • bass god

  • No cocaine involved at all! ;)

  • Like Scarified isn't fast enough!!! Scott probably thought like: I'm gonna make a prank, and play twice as fast, tehe!!!!! Oh shoot... too fast!, oh well, can play it anyway'' Because these people are gods of metal!

  • killer bass!!

  • i saw these guys performing live back in 1987.

  • Check out Paul live last week with Mr. Big..

  • すげ~~~!の、ひとこと

    さすが「光より速い男」と呼ばれただけの事はある!

  • This song is fast at its normal tempo. How in the hell did Juan and Scott actually play it at this speed?! All of those guys are just so....I don't even think there's a word for it

  • John/Juan fingered a girl once.... she liked it....

  • I wish I could see them live but I was born too late :/

  • @leandro7426 same ... that bassist is awesome :)

  • after yrs of strenuous study in the art of shred, i must conclude that Paul & Bruce are a better dynamic duo than Jason & Marty.. still love em all tho!

  • @shredderSupreme91

I love Paul and Bruce, but the feeling i get from Cacophony is just mind-blowing. Now if we somehow got a duo between Jason Becker and Paul Gilbert the world would collapse and the space time continuum would be shredded to pieces.

  • Paul Gilbert, one of the few survivors of the late 80's

  • @TallonIV776V True that.

  • I think this is the fastest I've ever heard them play it -

  • the final thing is great! miss u racerx

  • Did Scott Travis play with Racer X until 1990 when he joined Judas Priest?

  • @mitchwheelz yes he did

  • hahhaha racer x can own all of the bands nowadays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the bass player is fu/(&/% beast man,,wwwooooow

  • amazing!!!

  • what pickups is paul using in racerx days?

  • @PGBUCKETHEAD

I´m pretty sure he was mainly using DiMarzio PAF Pro´s in these days.

  • @PGBUCKETHEAD not PAFs as the other guy said. He used Seymour Duncans then, a Duncan Distortion in the bridge and minibucker in the neck. Also, they were connected in parallel!

  • And here solves the mystery of Paul's tinnitus.

  • @ChucklesMginty Yep, having met Paul myself I can say you really have to speak quite loud for him to hear you haha! Total legend though, great musician and all round person.

  • If that bass player aint a rock God I have no idea who is.

  • this is better than the 1987 one

  • why does jason have to be better than paul or paul better than jason?....they both have their own style wether one does upward or downward sweeps who gives a flying fuck?....i dont think either one of them sits around plotting about whos better than who....im sure they both have great respect for eachothers playing style....its not about whos better just enjoy the music and respect the fact that they are both incredible guitarists ...stop worrying about the whos better bullshit

  • I know this old but who cares it rocks

  • Shitty drummer. Mr. Marco is 10.000 ways betta.

  • @rafarads agreed!

  • @rafarads Are you stupid? this is one of best drummers in the world. realy pioneer in the double bass!!! is Scott Travis from Judas Priest!

  • Musical virtuosos like these guys just didn't get the recognition they deserved back in the 80s. With no internet, and with MTV being so restricted, you'd never know they existed unless you read about it in a guitar mag or something. If a bunch of 20 somethings invented songs like this today, they would be hailed as kings. Good on Paul for not giving up on the lack of press, and churning out dozens of awesome songs in the years that followed for all of us to listen to.

  • Racer x was not advanced as cacaphony? Racer X was 10x better than Cacaphony song writing wise and Paul and Bruce >>> Marty anyday ...also Jason was a genius and also >>>marty

  • @samoyeds Can not say who is better, they can not be compared because they are completely different styles of play! Remember, faster doesn not mean better (because obviously that is your parameter to say who's better)

  • Wow!!! That bass player owns!!! That's the bass player for The Mars Volta now!

  • 1:57- 2:07 Bruce was shreding the shit outta him and the cam didn't took anything DDDD=

  • alderette is awesome

  • my favourite was the drummer at the start

  • can the bass player and drummer get some???

  • 2:30 sounded like Cacophony lol these guys and Jason and Marty own the shred

  • Holy Shit!!!

  • I just had my face melted.....again......

  • Paul Gilbert as always is amazing but I always felt that Bruce didn't get the same recognition...he was amazing too and I feel a lot of times that his solos were tastier than Paul's.

Although I remember him being quoted in a magazine stating that to compete with Paul, he literally had to practice ALL day.

  • For long time i thought there isnt technical music in 80s but this blew up my mind

  • Fucking amazing bass & guitar work!!! Owzabout sum Stewart Hamm & Joe Satriani?

  • bouillet is simply fucken awesome man, he is the perfect mate for paul

  • how come this band is so unheard of. its like my favorite but no one at my school knows who they are when i say racer x or paul gilbert

  • @detroitrockcity22 then come to my school :p

  • sick bass player

  • To me these guys beat Marty and Jason. but there both insane it's hard to compare.

  • @DietGrape Eh, I don't believe that Racer X is advanced as Cacophony, but, this certainly is more marketable.

  • eat your hearts out suckers... I was at this show and the very first Mr.Big show that was also at the Omni!

  • Comment removed

  • @MarXway69 I was at both of those shows! You still in the bay area?

  • @bigbrokin No, but I'll be headed back for the Jason Becker Festival at Slim's (owned by Boz Scaggs) on March 26th 2011, be nice to see the old stomping grounds!

  • You got to realize (and believe me im high) bruce boulliet is the best thing to racer x to happen, a smashing duo, and i got to say in that time, bruce´s technique completely ate pauls acuraccy and speed, even a more complex progression and arpeggios

  • So much awsomness for such a little stage...

  • what is the thing holding the cymbals?

  • @nathan00791 It's Scott's kit. It's a cage set-up, so there is no need for stands, they simply dangle down from the cage itself!

  • Can someone tell me where the video is of Paul using his Pink Ice Destroyer like the one Bruce is playing?

  • bad bass sound but one of the best bass player!

  • scott travis always cool !!!

  • Bass is much more audible on this video as oppose to the Scarified '87 video

  • they look like kirk and james from metallica xD

  • everyone only says backer is the best coz of what happened to him, same applies to hendrix and rhodes. come on people we've got greats living and still playing dont be so fucking nostalgic

  • @ymiappf i mean becker...

  • @ymiappf

Randy Rhoads (get the spelling right) WAS a fucking great, no matter the course of whether he lived or died. Plus, if he were to live today, he would've possibly been better than Malmsteen and Vai combined.

  • @cj544322 so sue me I spelled his name wrong, I'm not the first to have done (Jackson...). and yh it wouldve been intersting if he was alive today coz malmsteen may not have been as popular due to his success coming after randy's death and him taking neoclassical to another level. I wonder if malmsteen wouldve just been seen as a rip off? but this can never be answered

  • @ymiappf I'm not a hendrix fan myself, but you can't say he didn't influence a lot of great guitarists

people say becker is the best because he's a talented and influential guitarist and the fact he still composes music when he could only move his eyes is inspiring...if i got ALS, i would probably kill myself..

  • @xxdeath02 yh i respect hendrix and do agree that he has influenced alot but you can't deny that in terms of what guitarists are actually physically doing, there are many better than him. fior his time he was great but I would say page was more influential imo

and on becker, he didnt really influence anyone in that sense, he was the last of the great guitarists really (imo). in reality I have never heard any modern guitarist say they were influenced by him, id be fine if you prove me wrong

  • @ymiappf listen to the "Zero Order Phase" album from Jeff Loomis' solo album..it reminds me of Beckers "Perpetual Burn" album

  • Fucking drums.

  • These guys rock. I found out about Paul Gilbert from a Guitar World article and man he kicks ass. I don't know why this band isn't played more on the radio or given more credit for how awesome they are.

  • How come Justin Bieber gets more views than this?

  • @Slacker996 since gay people aren't killed by the nazis everyone wants to show how much they respect them so that almost only gay people and disney are on tv^^

  • paul gilbert \m/

  • i jizzed about juan alderete. . . . his bass playing is so fucking fierce!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how they were trying to get Bruce on camera during his solo, but they couldn't switch to the right camera.

    Also, GREAT VIDEO.

  • @MrQtheGuitarist It was 1988, the two cameras were really big and that is a small club. But you are right--great video!!

  • I was so there biatches.... Good times!!!

  • My jaw dropped and I jizzed.

How in the sweet depths of hell can the bassist keep up with the guitars WITHOUT a pick?!

  • Comment removed

  • @XxSameerxX i can play that fast too, only my left hand is extremely slow, i started in october

  • @numetla

Awesome man! I'm just appalled at Jaun's incredible technicality at that speed.

But we all strive to be the best :)

  • @XxSameerxX with juan still alive more like the 2. best xD

  • @XxSameerxX Because he is truly a great bass player, among the ranks of Geddy Lee and John Entwistle

  • @XxSameerxX and to top it off, with just two fingers!

  • pero que grandes son!

  • @HardRockCafe111 Pues paul gilbert mide 1.93

  • This should be the most viewed video on youtube

  • is bruce using an Iceman or a Destroyer???

  • @Rain593 It was and Iceman/Destroyer hybrid. They had all sorts of crazy guitar designs. Good eye!

  • 2:39 you can hear scott travis clapping into one of the symbol mics haha

  • wow for the time thats pretty damn fast and heavy.... I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

  • wow double speed! awesome

  • its strange how bruce never got as much attention as paul has, hes a guitar great in his own right!

  • The duo that can stand up and fight Jason and Marty is Paul and bruce.

  • that is true sir

  • not to mention out play jason and marty.

  • @laiman46 they coul beat marty and jason alone at any time even when they are sleeping

  • @laiman and how it would be 1 vs 1 ?? :O jajaj jason owns all! xD

  • @enzoolafe123 Jason can beat paul at sweeps..But he can't beat paul when its string skipping.

  • @AstriBlair Jason can't beat anybody at anything, he can only move his eyes.

  • @jazztoid What kind of fucktarded comment is that?

  • @laiman46 dude, they was way ahead long before Jason and Marty even knew each other. Not saying Jason and Marty isn't good, but their not as tight as Paul and Bruce.

  • @laiman46

  • @laiman46 lol no doubt. but they still wouldnt win. jason and marty are the godsss.

  • @asharp12 Just because you sweep all the time your better,

  • @AstriBlair what? well you're an idiot.

  • @asharp12 wrong statement LOL..I meant just because you sweep all the time doesn't mean your better.just typo bro.

  • @AstriBlair how is that relevant to my previous comment at all? did i ever say at any point that just because somebody can sweep properly and cleanly it makes them an all around better musician? no. get your shit straight bro.

  • @asharp12 Dude..sweeping is intimidating. And many people see jason do it all the time. While they don't see PG do it often.Ofcourse they'll think Jason is much more of a monster on guitar.Paul can be just the same.He just chooses more rhythmical focus and on his interests.Thats what I was pointing out about the sweeps.

  • @AstriBlair its actually not that intimidating. its easy to do once u get it down for the most part...and believe me ive been fans of PG as well as becker for a looong time. i know paul doesnt sweep nearly as much. he uses the string skipping arpeggiated technique more so. not to say that he cant sweep because im sure he'd be beast at it if tried. regardless idk why we're arguing. i guess the point im just trying to get across is that overall becker was the better player for many reasons lol

  • @asharp12 u should check this out

    watch?v=UBEVpR1UsvI

  • @i've seen that video before. notice how he doesnt go back down sweeping. all he does is sweep up the scale. he's stated before that he's "terrified" of going back down when sweeping. idk go figure.

  • @asharp12 Well let's see---he invented a sweep before you were born, so idk go figure...

  • @bigbrokin he didn't invent sweeping. you're a complete idiot.

  • Forgive me guitar master.. I didn't want to be on your "everyone who disagrees with you is an idiot" list...

Don't come to a Racer X comment list and call people names.. It only shows you own ignorance...

  • @bigbrokin you said he invented sweeping and I'M the ignorant one? haha. wow.

  • @asharp12 Yes knucklehead, in 1998 sweeping was something you did with a broom, not a pick.

  • @asharp12 and even better..1988.. lol

  • @bigbrokin wow haha. might as well quit making a fool of yourself while you're still ahead.

  • @asharp12 For many players its intimidating.I can sweep too. They have different styles man..I mean they both can Play almost anything.(jason and paul both play classical music). It comes to whose type of playing you like more.

  • PAUL BROUCE JASON AND MARTY......... ALL ARE VERY MONSTER OF SHRED, ISNOT ONE BETTER

  • @laiman46 BEFORE Jason and Marty was Paul and Bruce...

  • @laiman46 stand up to? yes. beat? nah. haha

  • Juan Alderete is a freaking beast on bass, he is playing almost as fast as Gilbert! Bass line is incredible.

  • QUICK RACER X VS CACOPHONY!!!

  • RACER X!

  • it would have been great to have seen Bruce rip his solo

  • me too, but i want the music back a hell of a lot

  • Who's the other guitarist?

  • Bruce boillette

  • I love this version especially because you can really hear juan's bass runs/ Amazing for back in 87-88. but with paul as a mentor / teacher, he had it made.

  • 1:57 man even Paul is telling the camera man he doesn't know what he's doing, he's like "look over there damn it"

  • Is he not informing the camera man that its the other guy soloing?

  • too bad theband doesnt exist any more :(

  • look up racerxband or namm

  • Wow, camera angle fail

  • is it possible to get this on DVD?

  • how the hell can someone shred on an explorer? I mean, is that physically possible?

  • iceman i think, not explorer

  • Skwissgar Skwigelf shreds on an explorer! I can hear him now. "Pfft, Racers X? Not fasts enoughs!"

  • hahha I can totally hear him saying that in my head... lol i love metalocalypse

  • indeed their not human..

  • this is sick dude,, hehe

  • Master Piece!!!!

  • Linus is still capable none the less.

  • man, this version is COMPLETELY BADASS!

  • fucking idiot cameraman!!!

  • i know dude, fucking doesnt even show bruce boliet playing at all

  • damn. they are not human... lol

  • in the 80's you NEED TO BE FAST

  • is it possible to get this on DVD?

  • is the bassplayer linux???

  • Nah, this is John Alderete, he's in Mars Volta now. Pwns Linus if you ask me

  • Awesome bassplayer!

  • this is a very dangerous band.. with very dangerous music hahaha.. i love it

  • muy bien paul gilbert

  • SOO FAST

  • and clean... they are playing harmonized with 2 leads....

  • Hehe yeah, sounds a fair bit quicker than the studio version. And how, hehe
