i think that it is really sad how you can find music videos, lyric videos, etc for the ridiculous and awful songs that are being produced today but when you look for gems like this all you can find are live clips but not the real thing. i hope they create a time machine so my generation can experience this the right way.
@iflyc77 - no, it's live. Listen to the original studio recording and you'll hear the differences. Plus, you can tell by watching that they're really performing here. It's a pretty spot-on rendition, though, so I can see why you'd be suspicious (particularly by today's standards...)
There was a miscommunication I think. I thought you were saying it was the studio recording, and I was saying it's 'actual audio' as in the actual audio from what there were playing, as in live. haha. very cool and spot on indeed though
This is my all time favorite band, I have seen then on each tour to Australia since 1979 and just keep bringing their A game every time. Please come back soon!
Man ! ! ! they were young back then ! ! ! I was 27 with only 3 more years of youth left in me ( according to my generations expectations ) Now I'm 60 ? ? ?
greaaaaaat !! saw them back then 77 , 78 , 79 , ... every time amazing . it was my first concert , my mom took me and my brother to the first one !! i was in third grade !!
this is the Cheap Trick I remember !! So glad to see this is still at ZERO dislikes, as I consider it thier greatest masterpiece (and that's saying plenty, as this bunch is ridiculously talented...)
I think everyone is closet Cheap Trick Fans...how else do you explain over 40 gold and platinum albums and still out there filling seats and giving the crowd a show. I'm not exactly a fan but I have never seen them put on a bad show
RIP Don Kirshner. As a teenager of the late 70's I stay up late every weekend to watch his TV rock concerts. Downed has always been one of my favorite Cheap Trick songs,,,one of the many. Ive said it a million times before, but Pete Townsend and the who gave me a love of rock music at an early age, but it was Mr. Rick Neilsen that made me pick up and play guitar!!
cheap trick are brilliant and under rated esp first 4 albums!!!! amazing vocals songs (via nielsen), and the BEST ROCK IMAGE EVER!!! they are smart guys!!!
I was fannatical over these guys with the first 4 albums. This song brings back memories of this girl that was my best friend and my first love. We did everything together in the 70s - drinking, smoking ( a lot of Pot), acid, you name it. We were both in our early teens then, but it was the 70s right? She was my first love but she never seen me that way, and so, she was my first heart break too. Still, the 70s and 80s were the best.
This is an example of a live version sounding better than the studio version. This doesn't happen often, but it's usually a sign of a very talented group or individual. I sure miss watching Don Kirshner!
I love this song. I used to be a DJ in college...and played this song a lot in 1978. This was my introduction to Cheap Trick....I think before Surrender. Great tune...and was deserving to be a big hit single. Too bad more people aren't familiar with this great melodic rocker.
This song was featured a couple of times in the movie Over the Edge, greatest teen rebellion flick of all time and a favorite of Kurt Cobain (inspired the Smells Like Teen Spirit vid) and Cameron Crowe.
One of my all time favorite groups. I've seen them live dozens of times and I'm still pissed that the only time I ever saw them do this song was 1 show back in the 70's.
With a first name like Robin how could possibly grow up thinking that you couldn't sing? My real first name is Randy and I'm always horny. I rest my case.
What a great band. When I see stuff like this on YouTube it only makes me realize how much today's rock bands suck. No posing or studio tricks needed, this is the real deal!!!
@jt20042 I know how you feel because in 1979 we used to say "is this all we have?....why did we have to be born after Hendrix died and the Beatle Broke up? ....the Led Zeppelin '77 tour sucked, and the chicks were into disco..the more things change, the more they stay the same. I saw Cheap trick in 78 as the first of 2 warm up acts for foghat and in 79 as a headliner. I'm not putting you down...quite the contrary I know how you feel
Robin Zander is the best voice rock n' roll has ever known!

Anyone ever notice that Rick Nielsen looked like a grown up Charlie Brown? LOL This song kicks ass though.

Rick needs some new covers for his speaker cabinets ! They're all shredded.

Amazing. Some of the lyrics about "wanting to save the world" remind me of Paul McCartney's Too Many People. I love this song.

IMO, America's best band. They deserve so much better than some of the crap that's out there now. Still rockin' after 35 years with the same lineup.
