I don't know why but when I go to spain and ask for water in portuguese they do not understand what I've asked. Here, they speak if they were at home and we understand everything hehe.

@verinhaincitatus I am Dutch with PT dad. This is similar to Danish/Dutch. They learn fluent Dutch in 1-2 months, much better than Germans. I can read Danish easy, don't understand much of what they say unless they speak slowly. Danish has many alien sounds to us. Same PT: written it is very similar to ES, but spoken it is not. ES people talk clear, PT people eat words and use strange sounds. So I understand ES, but my Hispanohablante friends not me. Even though they love Portuguese!
