Periscope made me scared to walk near it. It was so loud and it really freaked me out. Specially near a shark shooting game. Its funny as I think about it. XD
@dickinson1027 Sega (SErvice GAmes) was formed by a couple of Americans in Hawaii. In 1954, David Rosen, an American officer in the Air Force, launched a two-minute photo booth business in Tokyo. This company eventually became Rosen Enterprises, and in 1957 began importing coin-operated games to Japan. SErvice GAmes and Rosen then merged to form Sega Enterprises. American company Gulf & Western (who owned Paramount Pictures) bought Sega in 1969. It's now wholly Japanese.
You seem to have quite a recollection of these types of games. When I was younger, there was a game that I used to play in a small arcade at an amusement park. This was the early 90s, but this game stuck out like a sore thumb as it was decades old. What I remember loving about it was that it wasn't a video game, but I THINK you actually controlled a small plane through obstacles? I've been trying desperately to figure out what game this was! Any ideas?
I grew up near the seaside as a kid, in the 80's they had lots of machines that would have been "classics" back then - there were a fair few mechanical games; I remember the kind of racing game you mention. Lots of penny falls, what the butler saw, gas powered shooting alleys..
I remember playing Periscope and the driving game, and some shooting gallery games, when I was a kid. I can't have been more than 4 or 5 at the time, so my memories are very vague, but I do know that's where my love of gaming started.

Cool, so I'm not the only one here who remembers these games, :)
I guess that's why I have such a passion for Sega. I've been playing their games in the arcades even before Pong hit the world. LOL!
