  • A nice video of perhaps the most hidden capital city of the world overall - thanks for taking the effort to record and share it with us.

  • But those unbelievably orderly trimmed topiaries on the hill below Kim Il-Sung's statue makes me think that the whole city is one giant military camp - the only (other) place where things are just as much tidy.

  • Hmmm... and the buildings are not as dilapidated as I'd thought. In fact, the city overall looks quite pleasant - dreary of course, but pleasant nonetheless.

  • I wish the driver was a little bit slower - all I can see is rows and rows of willow trees back by blurry images.

  • Or maybe he was just scared of being shot. :X

  • This guy has a very peaceful boring voice. :X

  • This guys voice is so soft he put me to sleep. :)

  • If i was the US president invading and liberating the North Korean people from the brainwashing and inhumane life they are subjected to would be my first priority.

  • @ufcpride101 And you and America would be damned around the world for interfering with a sovereign nations internal affairs.

    But who cares?

  • Nobody has bicycles, I guess they're too expensive to own.

  • Kim Jung Il needs to be killed

  • @TangTuyetMinh Done.

  • blood-thristy communists

  • City 17? Is Dr. Breen Kim John il?

  • watching this i feel homesick

  • Wow, very interesting video!, thanks for posting it!. Was it hard to travel to North Korea?, did you experienced any difficulties by filming from the bus?

  • I really wish the guy in the video would speak up

  • @Flshbckmn They aren't suppose to film so he can't exactly scream it.

  • @Stokedish It seems to me the commentary was recorded later on, otherwise we'd hear the background noises

  • Omfg dude, you're such a pussy. If you don't like the country, why go there? All you do is recite what everybody already knows and act like North Korea insults you with being the way it is so you're allowed to make fun of it at every point. I visited North Korea and I had a great time there. It's all up to you to make it interesting for yourself. And bowing for the statue? You put down the flowers and make a little bow. Nothing bizarre or magical here, gee whiz. Grow some balls.

  • "its very bizarre. borders on cultish fanaticism."

you mean like Americans who show up in Washington DC in american flag clothing, crying and getting spiritual in front of the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Monument, etc???

it's no different, its called nationalism. its the concept formed during the French Revolution that what holds people together is not a king, but nationality, we are one type of people different than the others. and we have heroes greater than anyone else. its universal

  • @youngbuck189 At least the Yanks weeping in front of Lincons monument know the guys dead. He's not leading the country from his coffin like Kim il Sung is.Also Lincon did some great and amazing things with his life. The Kim Dynasty has so far just denuded their nation of all its Pies.

  • @tommiatkins The North Koreans know that Kim Il Sung is dead, stupid. There were 3 years of official mourning after he died and his body is displayed is a mausoleum. Only in 1998 he was declared Eternal President. It's a weird thing yeah, but you can't say they think he's alive. You're the one who's believing and spreading dumb irrational crap here.

  • Yeah and i can understand them coz you're another dumbass Americon and to be honest I wouldnt wish to meet you neither asshole !!!! DPRK rules a real anti-tourist state. wow i am moving there !!!! I HATE TOURISTS ESPECIALLY DUMBASS AMERICONS !!! by the ways why did he go there you asshole ????

  • @calisse245 It's not an anti-tourist state but it's an anti-immigration state ... relocating there is practically impossible, unless you are a famous director and get abducted :P

  • @calisse245

You, sir, are an idiot. You'll say the wrong thing to someone one day and get your justice, lol.

  • @calisse245 First, dumbass, learn to spell AMERICAN***************** and to further reinforce you being a dumbass, you think you can become a North Korean citizen. You must be fucking retarded.

  • I love this guys voice, makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Please tell me a bedtime story please!!!

  • @MrScotia HAHAHAH xD You are right! :P

  • Dude, I FUCKING LOVE YOUR VOICE

  • surprised you were able to sneak this video out...nice job!

  • I'd rather live in Pyongyang any day than the typical waisted, polluted, and crime filled city in America...

  • @Genossen1918 We would love it even more if you lived in Pyongyang as you wouldn't have access to a PC to make your retarded comments; have you booked your ticket yet?

  • @Genossen1918 Yeah never know when u get mugged or even killed in U$A !!!! Who cares what those dipsticks say they're so dumb.... eh communist flags..... fricken yanks have a damn ''rag'' on their houses but not enough money to paint them.... go to Maine you will laugh your heads off !!! Houses almost crumbling down, werent painted since Vietnam war but there is the flag hanging over the porch lol !!!! Americans are a lost CASE !!!

  • @calisse245 They certainly are. They have to bow down to a flag every day, millions of Americans were starved to death. If they complain against the US government they get thrown into a labour camp till they die.And theres no way out for them, They cant leave the shores of the US, heck, America dosnt even allow communication with the outside world. I feel really sorry for the Yanks. I wish they could break out of the brainwash...., Hang on a second. I'm talking crap arent I

  • @tommiatkins The North Koreans don't have to bow to the flag every day. As for the Americans, many wouldn't even consider being critical of the government because they're kept sweet with Coca Cola and pop music. That is, if they are not poor trash with no medical insurance working 3 jobs so as not to starve.

  • @HelenaXVI Superior juche system under benevolent leadership of Kim Il Sung (d1994) has produced a paradise for the workers. Fields overflow with bountiful harvest, each ear of corn is grateful to grow under free socialism. DPRK is admired by all for wealth and technology. Lights are only out at night due to imperialist capitalst warmongering US sabotage. DPRK peoples enjoy freedom of speech, religions, choice, movement. All is happy joy joy. If not happy joy joy, then misguided are reeducated

  • @HelenaXVI I Ran out of characters. Otherwise I would have added that you are a twat. Because you are.

  • @tommiatkins Well, I may be a twat but at least I've been in North Korea to see things for myself and discover something. All you did is read some basic information and then start repeating it like a brainless parrot. You're awesome.

  • @HelenaXVI Wow. One of the 250 ppl a year that DPRK let in. I'm humbled. Im sure you spent many a happy day cruising freely around and talking to the actual people. Sorry. I call shenanigings. Your palpably lying. And its really obvious. That actually makes you a bigger twat

  • @tommiatkins I'm not lying, just check my video on my page. And you're an idiot and know nothing about North Korea if you cannot believe that people can visit it. Can you tell me what your point really is? Apart from the fact that North Korea is a brutal totalitarian regime, a simple fact that you didn't come up with yourself and just read somewhere and now reproduce like a parrot? Maybe you should tell me the Earth is round. You'd be awesome.

  • @HelenaXVI My point is, if it really needs spelling out for you, that your comparing the plight of the DPRK peasants with that of the American poor. I would ask why. There isnt a comparison and rather than have a stab at Jong Ill's necrocracy you would raher have a pop at the Yanks. Quite the profitable excercise, and Im sure Yank Bashing will be all the rage. Nice to see people setting trends. Or perhaps your just a great admirer of Sungs foul state. Either way, your morals suck.

  • Comment removed

  • @Genossen1918 no you wouldnt

  • @Genossen1918 Me too, comrade!!!

  • @Genossen1918 Also, don't forget about psychopatia of US society! :-)))

  • i wonder how the real "poor people" in north korea can survive

  • i find this guys voice puts me to sleep. jut loop up and im sleeping i\\n minutes

  • Well at least they don't have rush hour!

  • There is a bright side and a dark side even in NK. @0:40 If you made less than one thousand dollars per year, this would be your best transportation and you could not even afford to normally ride the subway or bus. @2:95 only the elite has money to fill up gas and only they know where one can get it as gas stations where people's incomes are so low do not normally operate which is reason for few cars.

  • You are very skilled at announcing, soft-spoken, well done.

  • @VexingDaftJim1 it is. its all a facade.

its designed to present north korea as a well developed nation, but if went out of the city, its falling apart.

  • Its doesn't look so bad from the outside O.o

  • No pollution, no food, no liberty. great model of jail.

  • electric buss at 2:47 (it's not a tram) :D at least they don't pollute the city air so much

  • The world's biggest hostage crisis...

  • @setmedic Thank you for that fine piece of rhetoric. You are very informed and wise. Please give us more.

  • @HelenaXVI I sense a bit of sarcasm.

  • North Korea looks wealthier than NZ.

NZ is 164 billion in debt to the IMF; North Korea is not.

    Who is really "free"?

  • You are.

  • @j0n52 Being in debt to the IMF sucks, not having food and not being able to leave sucks worse.

  • @ManoftheBeret

Debt is a stealth form of slavery. Sovereign debt is what our grandchildren may end up paying back.

Europe is in the process of being suckered into deeper sovereign debt.

North Koreans are happy to stay home. The people saying they are not happy are themselves slaves to the IMF. See the irony?

  • All hail our great leader.

  • howd you get it out of the country ?

  • This guy should announce golf

  • Why are you whispering?

  • what's this, your npr audition tape?

seriously though, it's a cool video. it's just too bad you sound like such a wanker.

  • Great video. Nice and comfortable voice over!

  • woah, did i just step back into the 1950's?

  • North korea is a whole other world. Very, dul actually. My friend I congratuate you for actually risking your own security taping this. And the propoganda, it's usually against the US, which gets on my nerves.

  • a bit like equilibrium film

  • More walking promotes health.

  • Let's hope the North Korean government doesn't threaten you to take this video down.

  • @Coastergeekperson04 they couldn't they dont have power over youtube, they dont even have internet.

  • North Korea sounds like the dilemma in Milton's "Paradise Lost", where Satan and his demons had been cast out of heaven and found themselves in Hell. Do they fight another war to regain their former glory? Do they sue for forgiveness and be reinstated albeit under strict probation? Or do they declare their independence in Hell and adapt to it?

The DPRK is what Milton's Hell might look like after declaring independence and making it their home, for better or worse. Their defiance is their glory.

  • The reason why there is no signs/facades at the stores, is because its illegal to promote your business like that ;) ( How does that go together with hardcore probaganda? Not to mention torture & oppression. )

  • There is a reason why contact between North Koreans and American tourists is tightly controlled. Go into any Wal-Mart and you'll have your answer!

It's the same paternal spirit that compels a responsible father to tell his kids, "Don't talk to those nasty people over there."

In all fairness, American tourists who visit Pyongyang tend not to be crass but, they are a tiny unrepresentative minority of Americans and North Korea knows that. The oligarchs monitor American TV and see the dysfunction.

  • It's not just Americans, it's everyone, to control the flow of information from the outside world. Casting the DPRK as a "responsible father" is fucking absurd and offensive to everyone suffering under the North Korean State.

  • @ManoftheBeret Thirty years ago, I never thought I'd post such a comment, either! I grew up under the Cold War propaganda and knew it was lies but, I didn't have any other sources to compare with. The Net and YouTube has changed all that.

True, the N.K.'s are not free to act out libertine impulses like in the U.S. but, maybe they're right. I've seen how we've changed over the past 40 years; none of it good. The U.S. is badly oppressed today and we think our petty libertinisms equate to freedom.

  • @InfiniteMushroom Yeah, and you know what? The wall fell, and the soviet archives got opened up and pretty much confirmed that the USSR was as bad as everyone said it was.

Go ahead and spend some time in Dandong on the border watching starving North Koreans rushing into China, of all places, for a chance at freedom before you decide to spout some bullshit (Which, by the way, you and your entire family would be sent to a camp for: Internet is illegal in North Korea)

  • @ManoftheBeret what about your archives? Maybe your country is so bad as everyone said? I would not recommend shit any happened in Russia, which called "collapse".

  • @ManoftheBeret true :) They can send your entire grand family ( not just mom&dad, cousins and such as well ).. To work camps for LIFE.. If you break a law like, talking badly about the month's food ration (: ? The world just seriusly needs to wake up..

  • @InfiniteMushroom im sorry no disrespect, but how "dare" you moan about your western country's freedom, in a video about NORTH Korea ? Im sorry but they keep people over there, WORSE than the US keeps it cows, that says alot..

  • @skvakagud Freedom is no longer the simple concept it once was. Granted, comparing the DPRK to the U.S. is a difficult one. We must analyze in terms of whether the government betrays or supports the social norms accepted by the people.

The North Korean gov't tends to support the accepted social norms and their basic needs are met, for the most part. The U.S. gov't actively subverts and betrays its citizens at every turn yet, we pretend we are free because we can act out petty libertine impulses.

  • @InfiniteMushroom what do north korea do ?? It's one family ruling a country, like cult's are been ruled.. You cant compare whats basicly an evolved german KZ camp, with a country, where the PEOPLE, still have the power to leave if they want, and do mass scale demonstrations.. IF they wanted.. North koreans dont even have that opportunity, they have the worlds second largest minefield + electric fences.. Not to keep others out, and farm animals in.. But simply to keep the people in...

  • @skvakagud @InfiniteMushroom My problem is just, i dont think THIS is the place to compare it.. A video concerning USA, would be a good place to mention how the US can seem like other nations.. When you do it in a video, concerning N. korea, then it becomes "whining" in a way.. Say someone with a scratch starts complaining about his pain, while been with people who has been tortured for years/centurys, its not the place to do it.. ( Dont take it too direct or personal.. )

  • @InfiniteMushroom "The North Korean gov't tends to support the accepted social norms and their basic needs are met, for the most part"

No. Wrong. Not even fucking close. 37% of the population of the DPRK is chronically malnourished-This is according to the North Korean Government. God knows how large the real number is.

Guess those petty libertine impulses the DPRK protects its citizens from include the impulse to eat.

  • @InfiniteMushroom Pretentious wanker, never mind the USA's myriad problems. Every time I realize I get to live here and not in North Korea, I thank whoever is listening. People in the US are not free enough, but you want to talk about far beyond basic needs? People here have them. North Korea, they don't have food, freedom or the ability to leave.

  • @InfiniteMushroom I'll take a million Wal-marts over concentration camps, the inability to leave and my entire being being only as good was what I can do for the founding nutjobs.

    Pretentious fucker.

  • The best thin about this place got to be no traffic. lol

  • what are you doing men? louder! hahaha

but makes me want to live in pyong yang....hahahhaha

    how?

  • Is this Bob Ross in Pyongyang?

  • your voice gives me cancer

  • Great video. Good job.

  • Very informative.

  • You mean that particular road is spotless (hint, nothing else is worth a darn).

  • next time you think things are rough in the US, watch this video lol

  • @dpalmacci you are right north korea makes the rest of the world seem like a paradise!!

  • Wow, the place looks nicer than I expected.

  • The city SPOTLESS!

  • @yuppyguitar1 Ominously so.

  • @yuppyguitar1 Very sad...

  • how the fuck do u get into north korea

  • @doodoobrown1987 Unless things have changed, being a member of the DPRK friendship organization (KFA) seems to be the only way for Americans to visit DPRK at present. (previously ALL Americans were banned, this was changed only recently after the US took DPRK off the "terrorist sponsor" list)

This organization is not hard to join, but you might get put on an FBI watchlist.

  • lookz nice in pjongjang. all the labours relax and joy there sunday

  • brave man........going into north korea.......

  • you fucking america leave the world alon and mind you re own fucking busniss1

  • @javed119 Says the man who entered an American website known as YouTube.

  • fascinating, thank you

  • Wonder if there are any banks for North Korean people? You never see any signs up of store names, not even a bank aswell.

  • Too bad the government/military (I assume they're one and the same) can't wake up and execute their "dear leader", then they could open up the country, get massive investment from and trade with South Korea, China, Japan etc. They could even keep a strong socialist model and NK would still be transformed withing maybe 15 yrs.

  • I feel sorry for all the people. I'm not sure how it's gonna happen, but i'm predicting that North korea won't stay like this forever. I hope it doesn't involve too much blood shed but that seems to be the only way atm

  • how did u get in???

  • @THECONNECTIONseries Anyone can go in; Book a tour....

  • @oocares yah but you cant roam around freely right?

  • @THECONNECTIONseries of course not. - they are still technically at war with the US and South Korea

  • sad. this city and country has potential to be a great a beautiful place. but the people all look sad, quiet, and depressed. there is no color except for gray, white, blue, red, and maybe small hints of other colors here and there. it looks like the worlds largest ghost town. god help the people of this country

  • What good is a beautifully carved-out city without freedom.

  • excellent video

  • what a great video. thx! i plan on going there in early sept. cheers

  • great vid, good insight

  • Good vid, educational--a bit Blair Witch in terms of production, but under the circumstances it's understood. Thanks for posting.

  • Yes, you will get in trouble for the soldiers shot, 1.28, the NK's will be after you, everyone knows how technologically advanced NK is, lmao

  • This hushed speech makes you seem sly. You must have a good reason to gain access to North Korea what was yours?

  • this guy made the screen resolution blurly to make it scary.

    what a scary guy.

  • Just like Bob Ross is not only teaching us how to paint!

  • It's actually very clean there and well-organized. But it's a pity that the city isn't that colorful with like signs and flowers etc. Also the clothes could've been more colorful.

  • B/cause he'll get killed or imprisoned with hard laborif they know he is filming!!

  • rather live in north philadelphia than live here

  • Bizarro world

  • None of those people are real. That city is a giant play, while the real NK citizens starve to death in the surrounding country. It's a fantasy city.

  • This guys is obviously a westerner, the restriction is only for westerners. I am from Pakistan and I was able to freely walk talk with people this is a very good country and not corrupted by western stuff yet.

  • hello

  • inspite of all western propaganda that NK is the worst place in earth, this looks much better then any Texas town.

  • @munna21978 Yeah, sure cause if you drop a burger-wrapping on the street, they torture and kill you. Oh wait! No Burgers in NK...

  • @munna21978 Agreed. I'm from Texas ;)

  • @munna21978 All the Western propaganda like accounts from people who fled? The thousands of refugees?

  • you should all see Shane Smith's travel documentary of north korea. I've newer seen any funnier documentaries in my life

  • Great and informative video dude...! Well done on that one.

  • I wonder where the FAT Kim Lives? very facinated to see where he might be, from all the massive n grand buildings...How big the building he lives must be...

  • The buildings look beautiful.

  • At least you can visit now even if the tours are really controlled (They will take your Cell phone off you at the border) Search; KORYO TOURS

  • i didn´t see people killing each other like in New York or London

Pyonyang is other world,,,,you have to get a good heart to understand

  • @sinocreyera well have fun in pyongyan were the government controls your life...yea youl trade away your freedom and personality for safety but hey what about trading away your diet too....gettin food rations and living hungry and listining to communist propaganda and living my life a lie..ohhh how fun what a utopia north korea must be the place to live! ...yea it sure takes a "good heart" to understand

  • @sinocreyera People killing each other in New York?

How many innocent people have died from starvation and from the concentration camps in N. Korea? Nobody really knows.

If that country was so great, they wouldn't make it illegal for their citizens to move out of the country. Why the FUCK would any country want to illegalize that?

  • Amazing and excellent video. This must have been a fascinating (and scary) trip.

  • I have a question: Where are all of the gas stations? In the entire video I didn't see any, I know there aren't a lot of cars there, but there are SOME, so where do they fuel up? I guess there are no 'convenience stores' either?

  • Great video, I learned a lot. Thank you for sharing.

  • nice video, very informative. thanks

oh and i think you should speak louder, your voice was very low:) anyways great video

  • What's annoying about it?

  • i gave the 100th 5stars rating! i understand the north a little more now,ive been studying the War alot and wanderd what things past the north of the DMZ are like,i didnt even know amreican tourists were aloud there.

  • Excellent ! 5*

  • Great vid. thanks for that!

  • WoW Freaky!

  • This guy's voice is so soothing and sedated. It sounds like it belongs on NPR or some other sleepy radio program.

  • I think people should be able to film where ever they want to. Even here in the U.S. cops will tell citizens to stop filming.

  • In Israel you can film wherever the fuck you want, except the military zones

  • @kloratis: Yeah, the military zones counts as the border where the israeli pigs are stealing the palestinian's homes while they are torturing and killing them?

  • Yeah, exactly... Stealing the fucking homes, while torturing and killing... that's what happens... (dumbass)

  • your pathetic country is even worse then NK.. there is nothing to be jealous about Israel (stolen land from native palestinians)

  • You know nothing about Israel, so you better shut the fuck up

  • I know enough to think about how bastards can jews be. And do not worry, everything what your governments wants to say just play in worldwide broadcasts in news....

    Kiss

  • Just as bastards as Karl Marx and Trotsky

  • Fuck you!! Communism as we know it is NOTHING like he wanted! Get your facts straight, idiot.

  • But he was a Jew

  • Everyone in this world hates something, so you're not special
