Did you take note of the very tight area he is working?It would have been best if you worded it as "Hey, Pentair recommends at least 1 foot lead pipe on the intake line..."
He did a correct install, given the extremely tight area of the pool pad.

You didn't leave enough space between the suction of the pump and the 90. You at least need 1 foot!
