I tried an e-ink reader that had a "full refresh" setting that, when checked, caused the page to refresh as you show in the sony (a partial/"dirty" image before the complete one). When unchecked the refresh was like the iRex: faster and without noticeable errors.
How are the manga's formatted? Is it PDF or what? Also is the text on the 505 legible without having to zoom or pan? I am strongly considering getting the 505 for exactly what you have displayed: reading manga.
I had a PRS-505 and it wasn't so pleasant for most mangas. I had to do the zoom and scrolling to read it in the beginning, but you can set it in landscape mode and just scroll down (much easier that way). Forget about reading a whole page as shown in the video, it's just not readable since the resolution of the 505 is low. I sold mine, and I'll be investing in an iRex.
