  • This is great, love Roger's voice, he is so elegant :)

  • Oh God, Roger's voice!!! :')

  • wow O.O i got the chills listening to this!!

  • Nadal is a tool, and Federer is driving very very fast on the road heading toward the destination "HasBeenVille"

    I prefer Des Lynam's reading of this poem.

  • @MrPonko ur the tool and ur driving towards the destination twatsville

  • @RAdams9090 What you getting jealous for?

  • This poem sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it.

  • I remember when this was first aired before the final. A really, really beautiful poem. If only more people could understand the meaning behind it - and truely appreciate this for what it is = a masterpiece.

  • how could you dislike this you are not human!

  • BBC FTW

  • I'm just crying..

  • "If"! -- a childhood favorite! (And I guess, what eventually formed my girlhood template of "The Man for me" :->) It helps too that Federer and Nadal are such goodlooking, sexy readers :-) Bravo!

  • 2:09 what a beautiful smile! Love u Rog :)

  • love it. two exceptional athletes and examples of sportsmanship.

  • There are very few people in this world who can be called truly respected and admired as quality men in this world speciall among the so called celebrities these days, these two are probably two of the very few men who are respected not only because of the way they play the game or their fame but for the men they are, great but humble ! Kipling's poem is probably one of the best pieces of art ever produced and only if we could all learn from it the world would be a much happier and content place

  • A great poem,but what it has to do with overpaid sports stars beats me ha ha.

    Kind Regards

    Jim Clark

    poetryreincarnations where great poets live again

  • 9 people are not men

  • Of all great champions, Nadal apparently carries that in his heart better than any other players I know.

    Vamos Rafa!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Of all great champions, Nadal apparently carries that in his heart better than any other players I know.

    Vamos Rafa!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rafa's english is better now.

  • I love Ping Pong now..those 2 are legends ;DD

  • Thanks for uploading! I've been trying to find this video everywhere. It is very seldom that a poem is read by someone who seems to truly comprehend its meaning. But when it occurs, it really reaches into the soul.

  • for all those who want to know the name of the background music, it is from the Elizabeth: The Golden Age Soundtrack. "Destiny Theme"

    thumbs up this so others can see it too. :)

  • Here's an idea for all the Rafa haters.... Just don't watch him if you want to rip on his English. He's Spanish you nit wits. Maybe he should only speak Spanish, then you could never hear what he's saying. How would that be ??

  • I've heard other versions, but damn Roger says that last line well.

    It would put a tear in my eye if he says it to his son (if he gets one)

  • this is going too far

  • Two of the greatest athletes and rivalries of our time, reciting one of the most powerful poems ever written that ever so precisely and eloquently define character of an ideal being. Absolute poetry.

  • @asianprince911

    So very well said! We are the luckiest fans in the world!

  • stunning

  • anyone knows the background music, plzzz??

  • Roger is very elegance. love Roger :)

  • in my life there are thre hero's

  • Great poem by Kipling. Fantastic video. Bravo!

  • I can remember sitting in my living room before this final begun, listening to this. I'd never heard it before! even someone like me, who doesnt really care for poetry can see the brilliant in this. Genius poem, spoken by truely gifted individuals.

  • nadal's voice was a buzzkill

  • if you can dream,and no make dreams you master.vamos rafaaaaaa

  • please help me writing what they say !

  • @amasha88 google rudyard kipling's "if"

  • Legends of the sport right here. Respect.

  • Roger and Rafael. two of the best athletes on earth.

  • @bLaCkIIIIIIIbLaCk have to say armstrong and lidstrom are better athletes but sure. both are 40 and still close to the tops of their sports.

  • I usually hate poetry, but I love this poem.

    It Rocks

  • Federer and Nadal read this poem because they truly understand what it means to represent it

  • @CeruleanTwist , I'm absolutely agree with you. They're very strong. They're from God.

  • @RitaSalmayan They are from Zeus, get it right.

  • @CeruleanTwist No they read it because the BBC asked them to. Nadal probably was thinking, "What the fuck is this bullshit poem?"

  • Comment removed

  • if you hate this poem it is because you are a man of no substance, morals or focus

  • The most amazing and inspirational poem read by the two most amazing and most admirable sportsmen. Truly beautiful

  • wonderful poem, i think im very lucky cause i live in the same generation of this two monsters and even more lucky cause i could watch the game between them gofd bless them.

  • It´s just impressive... with out word...

  • a testament to the enduring beauty of the english language. And to the spirit of man.

  • Lacks gravitas

  • i first heard this yesterday at school and i thought one of them really couldn't speak english but then that kinda goes along with the poem.

  • Does anyone know the song title?

    It's amazingly fit with this video and poem

  • Inspirational words spoken by inspirational men

  • Mike Bassett reads it better

  • @gtfcblacky Its not about the quality of the reading its the fact that these two guys live their lives by these words. Very few people could have read this poem and have it tie so closely to the way they live their lives. This poem is perfect for them, if doing what is said in the poem makes you a man then Rafa and Federer definitely are men

  • Comment removed

  • that was really beautiful :) inspiring inspiring words.

  • i have ''if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you'' tattooed on my chest

  • dejando el español bien alto.... vaya ingles Rafa... XD

  • words spoken from heart always reach other's hearts

  • one of the greatest poems and seeing those words as you walk out onto center court must inspire them beyond belief. Nadal does his best at reading, his English isn't perfect but even English people don't get much right these days. (Including me) Give the guy a break and focus on what they are saying. Beautiful poem read by two of the greatest players of the most beautiful sport on the earth. :)

  • Floors me every single time

  • A very inspirational piece from my most favorite ATP players - Mr. RF and Mr. Rafa. They are both very good. Mr. RF achieved the highest rank which he really deserves to be. A rank by which each and every player is dreaming of. Same goes with Mr. Rafa..he proves that he can be lined with the greatest tennis players of all times. They might have a rivalry in ranking but for sure, these two guys are really GOOD friends. I'm very happy watching them both....

  • amen.

  • BIG NADAL'S ENGLISH! JAJAJAJAJAJ

  • I love this poem!! but they missed out one stanza.... "if you can make a heap of all your winnings and risk it it one turn of pitch and toss, and loose it all, and start again at your beginnings and never breathe a word about your loss...."

  • why is the song so sad

  • One of the greatest days, when Nadal beat Federer at Wimbledon

  • Nadal kind of ruins the perfection after Roger reads it so well, but this poem really suits both!

  • @Elwink Nadal didn't have the same privileged Swiss upbringing (or an English-speaking parent for that matter) like Federer did. He does his best, actually he adds to it

  • @clicklipstick you mean privileged that for Fed it was easier to learn english? Yea, agree it's tougher for Spanish. Good that you like it, I would have prefered two versions :-)

  • Kipling was an idiot... Wrote the White Man's Burden.

  • This suits Nadal so well. Amazing poem.

  • LOLOLOL

  • what's the background song

  • Why don't they read the whole thing?

  • they should have got fed to read the whole thing

  • Did they only do this for the 2008 final? But not for 2007 or 2006?

  • i love Ping Pong now..those 2 are legends

  • @HondaSakura what has this to do with ping pong??

  • Comment removed

  • @seidl01 it was a joke maaan..smiiiiile ;DDD

  • Awesome, I love volleyball ;)

  • federer's english is much better than nadal's

  • Of course it is. Roger speaks English fluently, as his mom is from South Aftica, and Nadal is from Spain. I think Nadal's accent is pretty awesome!

  • My god I want to cry....

  • oh how nice!!! I adore the verse and the players!!

  • Compare Rafa and Roger's pronunciation. LoL

  • breathtakingly beautiful!!!

  • Nice. Love this two guys!!!

    PS. Rafa improved his english in the last few months, i think when he was injured:P

  • There are 4 verses

  • wonderful

  • Rafa Nadal has balls to recite this poem in English.

  • @Bradin14 Indeed

  • beautiful

  • and i assume you are an awful tennis player...no?...

  • You're right, I am an awful tennis player. But anyway, you'd have no point, I'm not showing my tennis abilities in a youtube video.

    Rafa Nadal and I, by the way, come from the same country.

  • i think the following saying well and truly applies in the current situation.

    never critisize a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes.

  • You cannot be serious. He is an awful English speaker, that's undeniable.

  • YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!

  • @oliverm2

    ?

  • ... mcenroe quote from your comment.... nevermind xd

  • because then, even if he gets mad, you'll be a mile away, and you have his shoes. ;)

  • I'm sure you can speak Spanish! Stupid!

  • Of course I can. I am Spanish.

  • wow !!!

  • That was beautiful.

  • how is the video's song named???

  • great video, love Roger ;

  • Fed has the copy rights of this poem

  • great video. Roger love ;

  • Beautiful... cant say anything.. its just a beautiful poe. I love Federer's voice.

  • @Ihavexfactor I agree with u, love Federer's voice, but Nadal, it just that he doesn't know how to read.

  • @rogerfederer4ever

    Why don't you try reading a poem in Spanish mate

  • @fabastonmartinoneill oh c'mon I speak spanish fluently, it's not my fault or Roger's that Nadal just have time to exercise his left arm, and not to learn a languages that he certainly needs.

  • Greatest poem ever written

  • completely agree.

  • fuckin epic!

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

    Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;

    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;

    If all men count with you, but none too much;

    If you can fill the unforgiving minute

    With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -

    Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

    And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • 3 of 4

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings

    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

    And lose, and start again at your beginnings

    And never breathe a word about your loss;

    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

    To serve your turn long after they are gone,

    And so hold on when there is nothing in you

    Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

  • 2 of 4

    If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;

    If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;

    If you can meet with triumph and disaster

    And treat those two imposters just the same;

    If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

    Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,

    And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

  • 1 of 4

    If you can keep your head when all about you

    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

    But make allowance for their doubting too;

    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

    Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,

    Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,

    And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

  • ♥♥rafa's accent

  • great!

  • Whats the background music?

  • it's not stupid, it means alot about not giving up when everything seems like hell and giving that last piece of hope you've got to not give up.

  • ...so what happened to verse three? ...and shorten verse two? Otherwise great.

  • I am completely speechless this has been the most motivating and inspirational video i have been exposed in my life. Thanks Roger again you prove to be a great man.

  • This is probably one of the most inspirational poems ever written and anyone who says it is stupid or rubbish is an illiterate fool who has no concept of what is motivational or inspiring! All the great tennis players all say seeing the line above the doors that you walk through at Wimbledon to the Centre Court those words are inspiring and so true of the beautiful game of tennis!

  • wow really beautiful poem ...

    P.S. rafa's accent is so cute! haha

  • beautiful words read by beautiful men
