  • why pour water in it?

  • @xerke Hydrates the colony, they need moisture and water to live.

  • cool

  • where did you get the glass for the cover????

  • Most cities have glass companies that will cut the glass to whatever size you like.

  • schöne gefertigt. wie lang hast dran gearbeitet?

  • hey man!! nice work, ...but in that kind of nest, how much water you need?? how often?

  • i have a big block of y-tong and im gonna carv it all out in it and attatch a glass lid it how can i attack it easely i dont want something infront of the glass like rubber bands i hate that so and how can i get them to breath in it can you help me plz respond

  • how does the glass stay on the gypsum?

does it need a clamp or something?

cause the glass-lid looks like it can fall off really easily - which may result in ants escaping

  • Yes you need some clamps or rubber band to hold it in place. You can also drill holes and attach some turnable wood bars for easy locking/removing.

  • The gypsum is gonna moist and destruct itself!

  • it started as liquid plaster so it should be fine

  • how often do you have to fill that big gap of water?

  • What's that spot for anyway?

  • Im asking myself the same thing..

plaster is the same as plastic??

  • How do you use it after putting the queen inside it? How do you feed them after closing it with the glass? is there a hole where you can put food?

  • Queens I don't put in such a nest. I put them into a glass test tube with a micro climate (small water section, separated by cotton batting). Only when they are a bigger colony, they can go into a gypsum nest. I drill holes and use tubes. Feeding is outside the nest, e.g. at the end of a tube attached to the nest.

  • @NuptialFlight Why dont you use a terrarium, man? u cant put them forever in a nest and just feed them by attaching test tubes with food on it. That's not species-appropriate. Man, I'm surprised how seroius the the english speaking ants community differs from the german, and not in a good way!!! You are all a bunch of amateurs who dont have a single clue about ants.

  • very nice plaster nest, did you made it youreself or you bought it?

  • thanks,I made it myself, in my other videos I show how to make such a nest. There is no sound or commentary on them by now, but I will add more such instruction videos soon when I have more time!

  • very nice

  • Thats a nice sized nest! I always find it difficult trying to find a container the correct size to make the nest.
