I wish people would stop treating atheism as some sort of religion. We are not a religion. We are atheists because we believe there is no god. Stop conceptualizing everything within your own dogmatic view of this world. I believe in individuality. A hard thing to grasp for many people.
@ramonster163 we don't believe there is no god, we believe there is no proof of God. If you were given proof of god right now you would believe there is a god, correct? That's why it's not a religion and that's why it's not faith. Given proof of anything else, religious people would stick to their beliefs.
no wya to know GOD unless its in your heart through miracles first read quran and see its true miracles DONT USE A HATE SITE, know that ALAH has first made man ADAM in that was never an ape. The MEHDI alayisSallom is on earth now so more questions are answered from bible torah quran athiest hindu etc. NEW MOVIE "THE ARRIVED" now playing to show proof at my channel the link!
You're an idiot. Stop filming your tv and certainly don't do it with a cellphone. This video might has well not even be on youtube. We cannot understand it.
Most Obamites have only recently became atheists, only because the conservatives are theists period. That's pretty much the extent of their motivation.
I'm an atheist but am fiscally conservative, for a reduced role of government and pro gun. It's an unfortunate reality that in order to get what I want done in government, I have to vote for some religious nut job. I hope I will live long enough to see that change.
To all die-hard Obama critics (like Baldwin and all those other turbo-religious nut jobs) I have just one word to think about: McCAIN!
Can anyone even IMAGINE the unthinkable MESS we would all be drowning in, if that little old jumpin;' jack had become our president? HONESTLY? You REALLY believe we'd be in "great shape", had that pair of twits (Gramps and his bubble-brained stewardess) moved into the White House?
Please be REALISTIC! Does your hate for (non-white) Obama REALLY go THAT far?
@richardaberdeen Hold on a minute. All I'm saying is that I don't know how the universe started yet. I'm accepting the fact that I don't know. Can you?
Please visit my channel for the unpopular truth about homosexuality.
A person does not need hatred or any kind of phobia in order to acknowledge important differences between heterosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption and homosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption. Even non-religious people know this.
Homosexual activists, with support from the media, have succeeded at framing themselves as noble victims; it's an effective way to push a social agenda.
How can you upload such an insult to modern technology. (even for 2008)
You sir are not worthy of a high speed internet connection. You should be eternally banished to the pit of Dial-Up, where you will spend eternity in frustration waiting for that little hour-glass to stop fucking spinning.
this would be a great clip except.. would it be possible for you to downgrade the quality just a little bit more? I can ALMOST make out some of the things that they are saying.
lmao so there is no God because Stephen Baldwin lost a coin flip? lmao god how did this video get 150k plays? even i feel like an idiot for watching it.
cause you were suppose to pick the coin up and toss it the opposite side down on your palm, so really it should have been Tails and Baldwin would have won!!! I <3 God!
If you have told one lie, that makes you a liar. If you have stolen one thing, that makes you a thief. JESUS said; if you look at a person with lust, you commit adultery in your heart! Ever used GOD's name in vain; then your a blasphemer and can't enter GOD's kingdom! Revelation 21v8 says; "All liars will have their part in the lake of fire!" The bible says; No thief or adulterer will inherit GOD's kingdom! You broke GOD's laws; but JESUS paid your fine! Repent, and trust the Savior!
God is Eternal; He has said, “I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever” (Deuteronomy 32:40)! He breathed life into all living creatures and is therefore the first cause or beginning of all things living. Mankind is the epitome of all things created that has breath because he also is capable of thought and reason. He is created in the image and likeness of God.2 God is creator of all things organic and inorganic.
If Tito lost the coin flip, he would have double-legged Baldwin, ground n' pounded him, and still proved God doesn't care about Baldwin. Win-win situation.
The third option is that we were genetically bred as workers for an alien race we mistook for gods, or are we our own gods just that we never looked at that possability that as well our own devil.
Big bang has to have a starting point even if that start was a single atom, then where did that atom originate from, an argument can be formed from any point of view, its the retoric and self serving opinion that postulates a platform from which a bias is formed and the truth can be overlooked, lmao.
Young atheists, particularly the ones on Youtube (as opposed to calmer minded atheists) are given to self-puffery and grandiose idealism. They tend to turn a blind eye to their own weaknesses, particularly with regards to their inability to make strong argument, and characteristically resort to either regurgitated cliches, or the use of ad hominem attack or expletives to delude themselves into believing their words have power. They do not.
@1105Chance pot calling the kettle black yay. pat yourself on the back professor...using spellcheck on youtube comments. people who care about you: 0. so sad. suck more child-raping pastor dick. consume thy holy lord!
@1105Chance what IF jesus existed? even though there is no evidence, no reasons to believe he did, and all the reasons and conflicting stories to believe he didn't. there were prophets THOUSANDS of years before him and prophets to this day. we can CONFIRM that sathya sai baba existed. millions of people believed he was a living god and had magic powers. should we take them seriously? the people who would have seen jesus would have been 10x dumber than the people today. yet you believe them.
@myfreepaysite1 that's a good point, although I wouldn't say that there is no evidence. However unreliable, the gospels do serve as some evidence. I think that the arguement really shouldn't be if he existed or not, we should talk about the validity of his ideas. The cold truth is that if he wasn't divine and we didn't presume that he knew what he was talking about, then his teachings are not only stupid, but they are completely immoral. even CS Lewis admits this.
@parkerthehicks If Jesus was not from God, there is no rational explanation for how his teachings could otherwise exist. As Will Durant, probably the most educated man in history stated, the teachings of Jesus represent a singular mind far superior to any other known in human history. 2000 years later, the remain completely and entirely accurate regarding human rights, human behavior and historical reality. Nobody else in history remotely has that kind of track record.
@richardaberdeen Jesus lived in a time encompasses by slavery and never said a word about it, he encouraged people to, "take no thought for your life", he said salt loses its flavor, he said the mustard seed was the smallest seed, he encourages the punishment of thought crimes in Matt. 5, Matt. 5: 40 he advocates becoming an easy victim. The explanation is that, if ever he existed, his teachings are fallible and by no means a way to live your life.
@parkerthehicks Jesus lived in a society where it was punishable by crucifixon to openly oppose slavery; if Jesus had openly opposed slavery, he would have greatly endangered thousands of people who hung around him. Salt does lose it's flavor and, a mustard seed was the smallest seed known to the people he was speaking to. No atheist in the history of Planet Earth has ever come with a single idea that is better towards the survival or improvement of the human race than Jesus already taught us
@richardaberdeen no, (face palm) salt does not lose its flavor and the mustard seed we now know is not the smallest seed, a diety should know this. I can give a better lesson than him. Do not be taken in by assertions, do not be led astray by irrationality, question your beliefs, and represent them honestly.
@parkerthehicks Bullshit. Jesus very clearly spoke in terms of his time and place in history, such as the camel going through the needle's eye, a popular phrase in his time, referring to Solomon, a popular king and, many of his stories contain pieces popular with his culture lost to history today. The farmers of his time viewed the mustard seed as the smallest seed and, salt does lose it's flavor over time. I replaced some salt in my own home a little while back which had lost flavor.
@richardaberdeen if you honestly think that salt can lose its flavor then i suppose the conversation is over. The way in which you can reject reality for the sake of your book is just frightening.
@parkerthehicks You are comparing apples and oranges. There is what is called "premium salt", which is difficult to alter. And, there is salt containg impurities, such as the salt Israel used in the time of Jesus, which came from the Dead Sea. Salt containing impurities very much can lose it's flavor. I gave you the science. It never ceases to amaze, how atheists pretend to be scientific and then, ignore both history and science when it doesn't agree with their pre-conceived stupidity.
@richardaberdeen The salt itself isn't losing flavor, it's just getting diluted by other things. You people go out on a limb to justify the stupidest things in the Bible with even stupider explanations.
It doesn't matter what the Bible says, you idiots will come up with something ridiculous and then pat yourself on the back while ignoring the reasons why your explanation makes no sense.
@ninjajesus81 No, you atheists are like Pharisees, trying to pull apart every "jot and tittle" and ignoring the central message. To common everyday people, which is who Jesus was speaking to, the "salt" they were familiar with gradually lost it's flavor. You are being absolutely stupid about this, to say the least.
@ninjajesus81 You are just an obvious liar. Fact 1) Historians believe people living at the time of Jesus got their salt from the Dead Sea. Fact 2) Salt taken from the Dead Sea was mixed with impurities. The combined substance, salt + impurities, was commonly known as "salt" to people Jesus was speaking to. The combined substance will lose it's flavor over time; this is a well established fact, which I have experienced myself when using cheap imported salt. Common speech is not scientific.
@ninjajesus You are just an obvious liar. Fact 1) Historians believe people living at the time of Jesus got their salt from the Dead Sea. @ninjajesus81 Salt mixed with impurities, such as the "salt" that Jews used during the 1st Century, very much changes taste over time. You have no idea what you are talking about. Various societies use various kinds of what is commonly called "salt". Salt coming from the Dead Sea area is well known to contain impurities and to change it's flavor over time, because what is commonly called "salt" is a mixture of other things. Bullshitter--try checking out a few facts for yourself.
@richardaberdeen So the salt that the Jews were using had impurities that caused the salt to lose flavor over time? And how do those impurities cause the salt to lose flavor over time. "Impurities" is ill-defined. Being purposely vague gets you no where.
@ninjajesus81 And finally, because I am not going to respond again to your nonsense, Jesus often used what are called "common language idioms", such as a camel going through the eye of a needle. This was a common expression easily understood by the common people of his time, who had no science education. You are completely full of shit on this, as are atheists in general who I debate, who pretend to be 'scientific', while promoting an evidence-less baseless superstition known as atheism.
@ninjajesus81 ...With respect... Religion = superstition = irrational interpretation of life by a mind that lacks balance. It is born out of fear & igorance & thrives when reason is gone on holiday. Atheism is simply NOT believing bullshit like smurfs living in your garden & bubu the cabbage monkey living in your cereal box. Take it easy!!
@ninjajesus81 You have failed to provide one shred of evidence that motion can arise from non-motion, intelligence from non-intelligence, conscious awareness from non-conscious particles of stuff, that zillions of parts within parts can magically self-assemble or that universal laws or processes of evolution can exist unto themselves. Yet, you keep pretending there is no God and, you call me "mad" ??? Atheists = obvious bullshitters.
Well i better say "that" camel instead of "the" camel, cause it is probably a misprint or an error in translation, from kamêlos (rope) TO kamilos (camel).
@Gabblowie1 No, the burden of proof lies with idiots who believe in magic, as in universes magically appearing all by themselves. Talk about our superstitious liars...
@richardaberdeen We have evidence, not magic, we have HUGE and testable evidence of how the universe was 13 Billion years ago. What does your religion say about the cosmic microwave background? Science gets its answers from the universe itself, not from bronze age myths.
@synsei1 I'm not sure who "we" is. After all, Aristotle, DaVinci, Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Darwin, Einstein and Francis Collins all claim to believe in God and, that the universe is designed. Whether the universe is 13 billion or 13 zillion years old, has no bearing on the existence of God. I'm not sure you understand who God is, which isn't surprising, since you are smaller than a tick turd on the ass of a microscopic leech living inside my intestines, compared to just the known universe
As for Darwin, he discarded his belief in "god" when he saw the cruelty of the animal world, and when he figured out evolution by natural selection.
As for Einstein... "It seems to me that the idea of a personal God is an anthropomorphic concept which I cannot take seriously. I feel also not able to imagine some will or goal outside the human sphere."
@Thelordisgayandmerry That's a lie. In Darwin's final edition of "On the Origin of Species", he very clearly credits God with being behind what he called "evolution" and thus, Darwin very clearly believed in design. It isn't surprising that you, like Richard Dawkins and other atheists, lie about Darwin. Anyone can read what Darwin has to say in his final edition of On the Origin of Species for themselves and thus, there is no debate and, I'm not goint to debate with an obvious liar.
@Thelordisgayandmerry 1876 edition of Origin of Species (a later edition): "There is a grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one". Here is what Darwin actually wrote in an 1879 letter shortly before his death: "I have never been an atheist" and he also wrote in the same letter "one can be an ardent Theist and evolutionist" I'LL TAKE DARWIN'S WORD FOR IT, THAT HE KNEW WHAT HE BELIEVED MORE THAN YOU DO.
@richardaberdeen just because he knew a lot of things doesn't mean he is 100% sure about everything,
do you know how big the religious suppresion was during his life?
he was raised as a christian, Raised as a christian means that when you are lets say "blank" ur parents plant the idea of a god in your head, so that you by default believe in it, then later to by intellect realize its all retarded monkey bullshit!
@mantheman100 Jesus was not a Christian, neither was Paul or any author of the Bible. Christianity arose after 90 AD. What Christians claim has no bearing on the existence of God, one way or the other. Any moron knows that a miscroscopic leech in our intestines has a far greater chance of being correct pretending there is no human being. You have a very narrow conservative mind that can't remotely grasp who God is or your tiny size compared to just the known universe. Grow up and stop lying.
@richardaberdeen Man... Just look at yourself, read all this blabber you're spouting all over youtube. Some people believe, some people don't. It's not up to you to change that. Plus you seem a little crazy, not because you believe in God, but because you go to these lengths to defend it. It makes it seem like you don't have much else to do. Jus sayin. Hope it's not true
I'm an atheist and the whole consept of god is just stupid, since God can mean a whole lot of things. For an example, in the non religious mind god could be Big bang, God could be the element of creation, god could be the pillars of creation.. God could be atoms. god could be an imaginary guy who created us by saying poof.
I do not have a narrow mind for it takes a very unnarrow mind to go from believer to non believer.
@biketouristpodcast wow.. that was just a mocking of the word god... i dont believe in anything.. i believe in big bang etc, the proven theories. Btw believeing is not the same as faith.. so dont tell me athiests is an religion..
@mantheman100 everyone has a religion whether you like to believe it or not, basically its ur beliefs about life, your purpose and where your going when you die...so yeah atheism is a religion
@mantheman100 well im sure you have a belief of where your going when u die, even if it is idk. im sure you have your beliefs on the purpose of life. and im pretty sure you have someone you follow. We christians have a more intelligent God to follow, and you have yourself....a human
@draco4813531415 You're going in a furnace or the ground when you die, life has no defined, nor definable purpose, we follow nobody but we take what is useful from many different places and make it our own. You don't have a more intelligent god to follow, only your own delusions and dication from clergy/parents. I would rather rely on myself than the Christian god; in fact, if any judeo/christian belief is correct, I believe the only moral option would be to kill god or die trying.
@Idlevice is there any atheist with any respect towards other people, the christian God is capitalized-.- and good luck killing God even the dumbest human knows its suicide, he's God...as in almighty and we're human as in...not almighty. and my body is going there but my soul soul is going to heaven, where do you think your soul is going>.> i can give you that answer
@draco4813531415 I have lots of respect for many, many people. I have no respect for immoral, baseless superstition and therefore I have no respect for god and I don't respect your beliefs. I didn't say a campaign of violence against god would be successful but I feel that if the Christian god is true, I would be morally obliged to do so. There is no reason to believe in 'souls'; it's ridiculous.
@Idlevice no, i did like a really long comment and it wont let me send it, i can send other messages just not that one...and its irritating cuz its at least 2 words long..
@richardaberdeen Get you quotes right. The complete quote is " I have never been an atheist in the sense of denying the existence of a God.— I think that generally (& more and more so as I grow older) but not always, that an agnostic would be the most correct description of my state of mind". I wonder if you actually read the letter.
@nunofmf2 You're lying again. The actual quote, taken from a letter in the Darwin library is: "my mind may best be described as "agnostic, but not entirely". The term "agnostic" in the time of Darwin sometimes referred to lack of faith in religions about God, rather than questioning God's existence and, unlike you pretend, Darwin said he was not entirely agnostic. Thus, Darwin could without contradiction, call himself mainly agnostic and yet believe in God, based on the language of his times.
Darwin evokes the works of God, the works of natural theology, the greatness of nature at the beginning of The Origin of Species because he really does believe those works in nature are beautiful and astonishing, and the adaptations are there. He's at one with the spirit of natural theology. – Darwin biographer James Moore It is fair to say that Darwin was agnostic towards religion, but believed in God, which is exactly how Darwin described himself; "agnostic, but not entirely". Stop Lying.
@Thelordisgayandmerry First there is a universe, then there is life, then there is evolution. What you call "evolution" is more accurately called "life in transition". God created life so that life can survive, which it has done for millions of years. You are pretending that a process can magically exist unto itself and yet, you make fun of people who believe in God. The position of atheism is completely full of shit. There is absolutely zero evidence that any process can exist unto itself.
@Thelordisgayandmerry And, it is not true at all that species "evolve" from other species. Rather, ALL OF LIFE is in a constant state of transition; the category "species" is an artificial invention of science, having no bearing on the existence of God or life. Whether a child calls every snake a "snake" or a scientist divides snakes up into 1000 "species", has no bearing on how life functions--life goes righ on adapting as environments change, regardless of what we call it. BULLSHITTER !
His most famous book is entitled "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection".
Scientists are allowed to separate animals into species, because Evolution is such a slow process it takes much more than several scientists' lifetimes for a new species to appear different enough from the species it originated from.
If we're all in a state of transition, you could grow wings tomorrow and lose them next week.
@richardaberdeen " And, it is not true at all that species "evolve" from other species. Rather, ALL OF LIFE is in a constant state of transition; the category "species" is an artificial invention of science, having no bearing on the existence of God or life. "
True, but you can make the same argument about pretty much any object category in the universe. The invention of language makes communication possible and that is generally a good thing..
@richardaberdeen Do you know how many times the word god is mentioned on the book (On the Origin of Species)? One time. Just one time. And he sure isn't crediting god with being behind anything. I sujest you download the book from project guttenberg and actually read it before saying nonsense like that.
@nunofmf2 You lied about Darwin, just like a whole lot of atheists do. Now you're trying to cover it up by pretending that what Darwin said isn't what Darwin actually meant, which is how atheists habitually try to explain away this very black and white clear statement by Darwin. Atheists pretend they can speak for Darwin, as if Darwin wasn't capable of speaking for himself. Get over it, Darwin doesn't agree with you, neither do Einstein and anyone else with half a brain.
@richardaberdeen You should check out Richard Dawkins, he agrees with "Einsteinian Religion" and even gives a brief description. If Darwin referred to himself as agnostic but not entirely couldn't that refer to a similar view of Einstein's? A little less god rather than a little more? That being said you cannot analyze a man's religious beliefs when you are reading things that aren't about religion.
@RoHbotic Richard Dawkins is an obvious liar. According to Dawkins, the universe "represents nothing but blind pitiless indifference". If this was remotely true, there would be no such people as Isaiah, Jesus, Gandhi, Schewitzer, Rosa Parks or anyone else who gave a damn about someone else. After all, people are part of the universe. Dawkins is a consumate liar who the Greeks would ban from the Academy for life, for comparing God with the spaghetti monster, which is a violation of logic 1-A.
@richardaberdeen Ok so since the universe does not represent human traits of compassion pity and empathy its not capable of producing kind people? That just plain silly. The comparison of god and the spaghetti monster is simply to bring to light that just because you can't disprove something doesn't make it true. You back up nothing on how Dawkins is a liar you are simply stating what you think. As violent as these Abrahamic religions are how can you believe that that god is kind?
@richardaberdeen Have you actually read the book? Can you tell me EXACTLY where in the book Darwin mentions god? Just one simple example? You do realize that anybody can download the book for free and check for themselves, right? I'm not trying to change your opinion on god or Darwin because I know that's impossible, I'm just trying to see how far your are willing to go in your delusion.
@nunofmf2 Apparently you don't bother to read past posts, where I quoted directly from Darwin's final edition of On the Origin of Species. A "final" edition represents a historical person's lifetime view and as such, it carries far more historical weight than previous editions or, previous quotes from a younger Darwin. If you had actually studied Darwin in any depth and had studied history, you would already know that--people often change their mind, as both Darwin and Einstein did over time.
@nunofmf2 From Darwin in his old age, representing a lifetime conclusion; older age quotes contradict some quotes by a younger Darwin, which is also true of Einstein and every historical person. This is because people often change their mind over time. "There is a grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one". --1876 edition. On the Origin of Species. "I have never been an atheist", 2 yrs before he died.
@richardaberdeen telling people they're completely full of shit isn't very Christian like (waves finger back and fourth disappointedly) I also don't think you fully understand the word superstition.
@bmancodgta4 A- I am not a Christain and B) superstition is belief not based on evidence. To just pretend there is no God is the worst of all known superstitions. There is no evidence that motion can arise without Primar Cause, that intelligence can arise from non-intelligence, conscious awareness from non-conscious particles or that zillions of parts within parts, processes or universal laws can exist all by themselves. Atheism is a greater superstition than all other superstitions combined.
@richardaberdeen The definition YOU gave does not fit with the way you're using it. Atheism isn't belief not based on evidence. It's not belief at all. It's lack of belief in a God. If anything, the word superstition fits much more with belief IN God. There is no real evidence... word of mouth doesn't count. I would still not call belief in God superstitious, but atheism is DEFINITELY not a superstition.
Now remember that believing has nothing to do with religion.. its like saying because jesus took breaths in the bible it means that we are christians.
@mantheman100 Atheism is the greatest of all known superstitions, having no foundation in evidence. There isn't a shingle shred of evidence supporting a conclusion of "no God". The physical evidence very clearly speaks for the invisible Creator, just like the Bible says. Bullshitter !!!
There is also no evidence that unicorns, fairies, and dragons don't exist, either.
In fact, we have no proof for anything's non-existence. Things that don't exist can't leave evidence of their non-existence (if you don't understand why that is, you need to think harder).
What you're talking about is proving a negative, and it's backwards from where the burden of proof is (google that phrase if you're unfamiliar). It's impossible to have proof that god doesn't exist.
That said, the burden is on any particular theist to prove a deity exists (for, if one does exist, one can get evidence of it's existence (or not, which would suggest either one doesn't exist or is hiding, either way means one shouldn't go around thinking there is one, and it's currently the situation we're all in, thus atheists exist)).
If you want to convert an atheist, you have to show us some sort of proof. Why should we believe Allah exists? Or Jehovah? Or Yahweh? Or whatever?
@Truthiness231 No, the burden of proof lies with those who go against known evidence. According to all known historical and human behavorial evidence, we are sinners, just like Jesus said. And, according to all known science evidence, motion cannot exist without Primary Cause, nor can intelligence arise from non-intelligence, nor conscious awareness from unconscious particles, nor can any processes called "evolution" or so-called "universal laws" magically exist all by themselves. BULLSHITTER
@richardaberdeen So according to science, motion can't exist without a primary cause, and therefore your imaginary friend is the only answer? You cite science as a reason motion can't exist without a primary cause, and then you abandon science to insert your alternative explanation.
And your proof that your religion is correct is that Jesus said people do bad things?
There are lots of illogical people who at least try to be logical, but you're not even trying.
@richardaberdeen ROFL, put down the pipe. The presence of "sin" (ie immoral acts) doesn't prove Thor exists, much less Jebus. You also say "nothing can exist without something else making it" in so many words, which would mean we couldn't exist (because then god would need a cause, and that cause would need a cause, and so on; for us to exist, something had to come from nothing, and something as complex as a deity coming from nothing is fucking stupid).
@richardaberdeen As it is, the burden of proof is always on the person trying to prove something.
Proof for any religion, in general or specific: _____, which is why there are hundreds of thousands of Christianity alone and yet the majority of the world isn't a Christian but rather one of countless other religions.
Also fun to check out: "cargo cults". I have to say their reason for thinking what they think is slightly less crazy than the Christians; at the very least, Americans do exist.
@Truthiness231 According to Descartes and, according to the known history of science, the burden of proof lies on those contradicting what is self-evident. For example, if Copernicus had just claimed the earth revolved around the sun, without providing any evidence, he would not be in the history books. The burden of proof ALWAYS lies with those contradicting what appears to be true. You are very wrong regarding this, as is clearly demonstrated by the known history of science and reason.
@Truthiness231 No, ALL known evidence demonstrates motion cannot exist without Primary Cause. Those who say there is no God or can be no God, are contradicting ALL known science evidence, pretending that motion can arise on it's own. The same is true regarding universal laws, processes, intellgence, conscious awareness, concepts of morality, good and evil, concepts of God, etc. Atheists are pretending these can exist all by themselves, which is obviously baseless superstiton of the worst kind
Prove any of that can't exist without a deity. Morality for certain exists ONLY outside religion, nobody uses biblical morality over their own natural morality or people would be doing all the stupid shit god says to do to one another in it (like killing disobedient children... wtf, god...).
Also, how did god come into existence without a first primary cause? How did you get the most complex thing humans ever imagined as the start of it all?
@Truthiness231 Morality is obviously based on our shared designed human conscience, just like the Bible says and Jefferson and the modern Francis Collins have pointed out. Similar laws against murder, adultery, theft and false witness, as well as similar and often near identical "golden rules" are diversely spread throughout human civilization, often in non-connected cultures. As Collins said, modern DNA evidence and shared conscience overwhelmingly demonstrates design, not random processes.
@richardaberdeen So you think most societies picked murder and rape as being "bad" things because we share a collective conscious?
1) Nowhere in any modern religion is there any proof for your claim. You're starting to sound more like a new-age crystal rubber than a Christian now.
2) I'm pretty sure it's the same for the same reason secular humanists see it as wrong... because what members of what society want murderers running around?
Now then, what about being gay? Is that moral? Why [not]?
@Truthiness231 Right, like societies just magically all selected the big four rules against murder, adultery, theft and false witness all by themselves, through some magical process of "self-selection". Like, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and similar ideas all just magially self-selected across the board in often entirely non-connected societies. As Francis Collins has repeatedly pointed out, athesits = poorly educated obvious bullshitters.
@Truthiness231 And, you keep pretending that Christianity and God are the same thing. Why don't you stop lying about Jesus and try actually reading what he said? Nobody who has actually read the Bible would compare Jesus to Christianity. If you had actually read the Bible, you would know that according to the Bible, so-called "gay" people and so-called "straight" people are equal before God. One is not less moral than the other, nor is one more moral than the other, "for all have sinned".
@richardaberdeen morality comes from evolution, natural selection. What man would be allowed to live in a developing, primal society who rapes, murders and steals? They would be cast out or killed. Other primates do this as well. Your idea that the universe had to come from nothing supposes some very outdated ideas of physics. Unified M-Theory and quantum mechanics through linear time into doubt; there doesn't need to be a beginning.
@richardaberdeen The teaching of the goddamn bible are not moral, not anywhere, not once. Is it moral to be good simply because you're instructed to be good, or for fear of punishment, rather than making a decision to be good? The idea that sins committed by people I will never know can be passed onto me is disgusting. The idea that an all-powerful god decided to redeem us by creating a human son to be tortured and killed to redeem us is unforgivable. Christianity is immoral.
@Idlevice Oh, I see. So loving your neighbor as yourself, doing unto others like you want them to do unto you and, promoting love and peace, rather than violence and war, are not moral. Yeah, right. Oh, and there are liars like Christopher Hitchens who support so-called "just" wars like WWII and yet, criticize God in the Old Testament for going after societies that sacrificed children and engaged in all manner of brutality as bad or worse than Hitler. ATHEISTS = OBVIOUS LIARS.
@Idlevice That's like saying it is immoral for a society to have police, judges and a criminal justice system. What holds crime in check is the fear of getting caught and being punished. When that fear is removed, as it was after the U.S. illegal invasion of Iraq, then all hell breaks loose in a society. According to The London Guardian, more people died from roving criminal gangs and wanton violence in the aftermath than from both military sides combined. Your position is clearly wrong.
@richardaberdeen No, the rioters, looters, rapists, vandals and murderers are clearly immoral. They were only obeying those basics laws for fear of repurcussions; that is NOT morality and look at how easily it falls. It is not immoral to have police however if everyone were moral, we would not need police. Obedience is not morality, it's the reasons why we obey that dictate whether we are moral or not.
@Idlevice Morality is what defines what we obey. Societal laws are based on our shared human conscience, as the Bible says, God has written his laws on the hearts of humanity. When we don't obey God's law, that is immoral, but the law itself is not immoral. The fact we can't obey the dictates of our own conscience very clearly demonstrates we are sinners, unable to live up to the dictates of our own conscience, just like the Bible says. Your responses continue to prove Jesus is correct.
@richardaberdeen You're absolutely right... IF there is a personal, christian god. There's an infinitesimally small chance of that, though. I view morality as the system by which we determine what is right or wrong; my morality may be very different from yours; what I view as immoral, you may not. I'm not a fan of turning the other cheek, for example. I don't think that is moral. Men can live morally even without repurcussions for immorality; I know I would. Would you?
@Idlevice God is not a "christian god", as you say. God is "I AM", regardless of what you or me or someone else claims about God, God remains the same. Of course without police, parental discipline and what in general terms is called the "fear of God", people would live far different lives, as it is well historically documented that they do.
@richardaberdeen Why worship an entity that is unknowable? How can man contemplate the will of such a being? If morality is supernatually granted, then why, as you argue, does it collapse when the man-made systems to enforce and nurture it are taken away?
@Idlevice Anyone can become aware of the grace, mercy, love and peace of God. You can only speak from your own experience. You can't deny the experience of others no matter how hard you try. I am aware of God working in my life every day. I don't have to understand God to be aware of God's love, any more than a child has to fully understand their parent to believe their parent cares. If we ask Jesus to forgive us, God will help us, otherwise Jesus loves you more than you will know.
@richardaberdeen I was raised presbyterian. I went to church for most of my life, being bored and occasionally angry until I was about 12. There was a prayer meeting thing and at that point in my life, I knew the grace and power of god as sure as any believer will proclaim. I was wrong, I was delusional and it was all in my head. I've felt more powerful versions of that sensation at rock gigs. I will never take these proclamations as evidence because I know how we can fool ourselves.
@Idlevice Being raised presbyterian doesn't mean anything. The way to know God is through forgiveness, found only in Jesus, not in some religion about Jesus. I don't imagine what happens in me concerning God, get real, I've been around a few blocks.
@richardaberdeen I asked for forgiveness and I would bear witness just as stidently as any believer out there. I saw a ghost when I was 3, too. I was mistaken and that is why I will never accept that arguement as evidence because I've been there; I was that person and I was deluded. It's a delusion more powerful than you must realize. people have had the same exact experiences and feelings concerning any number of deities, drugs and entertainment. Can you explain that?

I wish people would stop treating atheism as some sort of religion. We are not a religion. We are atheists because we believe there is no god. Stop conceptualizing everything within your own dogmatic view of this world. I believe in individuality. A hard thing to grasp for many people.

@ramonster163 we don't believe there is no god, we believe there is no proof of God. If you were given proof of god right now you would believe there is a god, correct? That's why it's not a religion and that's why it's not faith. Given proof of anything else, religious people would stick to their beliefs.

@myfreepaysite1 Mr. Dictionary and Mr. Grammar have deserted you, I see...so shall I.
1105Chance 5 months ago
@myfreepaysite1 that's a good point, although I wouldn't say that there is no evidence. However unreliable, the gospels do serve as some evidence. I think that the arguement really shouldn't be if he existed or not, we should talk about the validity of his ideas. The cold truth is that if he wasn't divine and we didn't presume that he knew what he was talking about, then his teachings are not only stupid, but they are completely immoral. even CS Lewis admits this.
parkerthehicks 5 months ago
@parkerthehicks If Jesus was not from God, there is no rational explanation for how his teachings could otherwise exist. As Will Durant, probably the most educated man in history stated, the teachings of Jesus represent a singular mind far superior to any other known in human history. 2000 years later, the remain completely and entirely accurate regarding human rights, human behavior and historical reality. Nobody else in history remotely has that kind of track record.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen Jesus lived in a time encompasses by slavery and never said a word about it, he encouraged people to, "take no thought for your life", he said salt loses its flavor, he said the mustard seed was the smallest seed, he encourages the punishment of thought crimes in Matt. 5, Matt. 5: 40 he advocates becoming an easy victim. The explanation is that, if ever he existed, his teachings are fallible and by no means a way to live your life.
parkerthehicks 5 months ago
@parkerthehicks Jesus lived in a society where it was punishable by crucifixon to openly oppose slavery; if Jesus had openly opposed slavery, he would have greatly endangered thousands of people who hung around him. Salt does lose it's flavor and, a mustard seed was the smallest seed known to the people he was speaking to. No atheist in the history of Planet Earth has ever come with a single idea that is better towards the survival or improvement of the human race than Jesus already taught us
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen no, (face palm) salt does not lose its flavor and the mustard seed we now know is not the smallest seed, a diety should know this. I can give a better lesson than him. Do not be taken in by assertions, do not be led astray by irrationality, question your beliefs, and represent them honestly.
parkerthehicks 5 months ago
@parkerthehicks Bullshit. Jesus very clearly spoke in terms of his time and place in history, such as the camel going through the needle's eye, a popular phrase in his time, referring to Solomon, a popular king and, many of his stories contain pieces popular with his culture lost to history today. The farmers of his time viewed the mustard seed as the smallest seed and, salt does lose it's flavor over time. I replaced some salt in my own home a little while back which had lost flavor.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen if you honestly think that salt can lose its flavor then i suppose the conversation is over. The way in which you can reject reality for the sake of your book is just frightening.
parkerthehicks 5 months ago
@parkerthehicks You are comparing apples and oranges. There is what is called "premium salt", which is difficult to alter. And, there is salt containg impurities, such as the salt Israel used in the time of Jesus, which came from the Dead Sea. Salt containing impurities very much can lose it's flavor. I gave you the science. It never ceases to amaze, how atheists pretend to be scientific and then, ignore both history and science when it doesn't agree with their pre-conceived stupidity.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen The salt itself isn't losing flavor, it's just getting diluted by other things. You people go out on a limb to justify the stupidest things in the Bible with even stupider explanations.
It doesn't matter what the Bible says, you idiots will come up with something ridiculous and then pat yourself on the back while ignoring the reasons why your explanation makes no sense.
ninjajesus81 5 months ago
@ninjajesus81 No, you atheists are like Pharisees, trying to pull apart every "jot and tittle" and ignoring the central message. To common everyday people, which is who Jesus was speaking to, the "salt" they were familiar with gradually lost it's flavor. You are being absolutely stupid about this, to say the least.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen No it didn't. Can you explain that concept with chemistry? No, you can't, because it can't happen.
ninjajesus81 5 months ago
@ninjajesus81 You are just an obvious liar. Fact 1) Historians believe people living at the time of Jesus got their salt from the Dead Sea. Fact 2) Salt taken from the Dead Sea was mixed with impurities. The combined substance, salt + impurities, was commonly known as "salt" to people Jesus was speaking to. The combined substance will lose it's flavor over time; this is a well established fact, which I have experienced myself when using cheap imported salt. Common speech is not scientific.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago

richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen So salt acquires impurities over time, and the dilution of the salt causes it to lose its flavor? You're reaching. Stop.
ninjajesus81 5 months ago 6
@ninjajesus81 Salt mixed with impurities, such as the "salt" that Jews used during the 1st Century, very much changes taste over time. You have no idea what you are talking about. Various societies use various kinds of what is commonly called "salt". Salt coming from the Dead Sea area is well known to contain impurities and to change it's flavor over time, because what is commonly called "salt" is a mixture of other things. Bullshitter--try checking out a few facts for yourself.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen So the salt that the Jews were using had impurities that caused the salt to lose flavor over time? And how do those impurities cause the salt to lose flavor over time. "Impurities" is ill-defined. Being purposely vague gets you no where.
ninjajesus81 5 months ago
@ninjajesus81 And finally, because I am not going to respond again to your nonsense, Jesus often used what are called "common language idioms", such as a camel going through the eye of a needle. This was a common expression easily understood by the common people of his time, who had no science education. You are completely full of shit on this, as are atheists in general who I debate, who pretend to be 'scientific', while promoting an evidence-less baseless superstition known as atheism.

synsei1 5 months ago
@synsei1 I'm not sure who "we" is. After all, Aristotle, DaVinci, Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Darwin, Einstein and Francis Collins all claim to believe in God and, that the universe is designed. Whether the universe is 13 billion or 13 zillion years old, has no bearing on the existence of God. I'm not sure you understand who God is, which isn't surprising, since you are smaller than a tick turd on the ass of a microscopic leech living inside my intestines, compared to just the known universe
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen You are a bit insane, aren't you?
As for Darwin, he discarded his belief in "god" when he saw the cruelty of the animal world, and when he figured out evolution by natural selection.
As for Einstein... "It seems to me that the idea of a personal God is an anthropomorphic concept which I cannot take seriously. I feel also not able to imagine some will or goal outside the human sphere."
Thelordisgayandmerry 5 months ago
@Thelordisgayandmerry That's a lie. In Darwin's final edition of "On the Origin of Species", he very clearly credits God with being behind what he called "evolution" and thus, Darwin very clearly believed in design. It isn't surprising that you, like Richard Dawkins and other atheists, lie about Darwin. Anyone can read what Darwin has to say in his final edition of On the Origin of Species for themselves and thus, there is no debate and, I'm not goint to debate with an obvious liar.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen Are you talking about the Ray Comfort edition?
Darwin saw how it all worked. He gave up his faith when he understood natural selection, because of the "cruelty" of it all.
Thelordisgayandmerry 5 months ago
@Thelordisgayandmerry 1876 edition of Origin of Species (a later edition): "There is a grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one". Here is what Darwin actually wrote in an 1879 letter shortly before his death: "I have never been an atheist" and he also wrote in the same letter "one can be an ardent Theist and evolutionist" I'LL TAKE DARWIN'S WORD FOR IT, THAT HE KNEW WHAT HE BELIEVED MORE THAN YOU DO.

@mantheman100 Jesus was not a Christian, neither was Paul or any author of the Bible. Christianity arose after 90 AD. I didn't say a campaign of violence against god would be successful but I feel that if the Christian god is true, I would be morally obliged to do so. There is no reason to believe in 'souls'; it's ridiculous.

@richardaberdeen Get you quotes right. The complete quote is " I have never been an atheist in the sense of denying the existence of a God.— I think that generally (& more and more so as I grow older) but not always, that an agnostic would be the most correct description of my state of mind". I wonder if you actually read the letter.
nunofmf2 5 months ago
@nunofmf2 You're lying again. The actual quote, taken from a letter in the Darwin library is: "my mind may best be described as "agnostic, but not entirely". The term "agnostic" in the time of Darwin sometimes referred to lack of faith in religions about God, rather than questioning God's existence and, unlike you pretend, Darwin said he was not entirely agnostic. Thus, Darwin could without contradiction, call himself mainly agnostic and yet believe in God, based on the language of his times.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
Darwin evokes the works of God, the works of natural theology, the greatness of nature at the beginning of The Origin of Species because he really does believe those works in nature are beautiful and astonishing, and the adaptations are there. He's at one with the spirit of natural theology. – Darwin biographer James Moore It is fair to say that Darwin was agnostic towards religion, but believed in God, which is exactly how Darwin described himself; "agnostic, but not entirely". Stop Lying.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen Fine. I really don't care.
But you do realize that evolution doesn't need a god to work, right?
Thelordisgayandmerry 5 months ago
@Thelordisgayandmerry First there is a universe, then there is life, then there is evolution. What you call "evolution" is more accurately called "life in transition". God created life so that life can survive, which it has done for millions of years. You are pretending that a process can magically exist unto itself and yet, you make fun of people who believe in God. The position of atheism is completely full of shit. There is absolutely zero evidence that any process can exist unto itself.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@Thelordisgayandmerry And, it is not true at all that species "evolve" from other species. Rather, ALL OF LIFE is in a constant state of transition; the category "species" is an artificial invention of science, having no bearing on the existence of God or life. Whether a child calls every snake a "snake" or a scientist divides snakes up into 1000 "species", has no bearing on how life functions--life goes righ on adapting as environments change, regardless of what we call it. BULLSHITTER !
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen So, do you agree or disagree with Darwin?
His most famous book is entitled "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection".
Scientists are allowed to separate animals into species, because Evolution is such a slow process it takes much more than several scientists' lifetimes for a new species to appear different enough from the species it originated from.
If we're all in a state of transition, you could grow wings tomorrow and lose them next week.
Thelordisgayandmerry 5 months ago
@Thelordisgayandmerry The fossil record shows the transition. We can't grow wings, and we certainly won't evolve to gave them anyway.

True, but you can make the same argument about pretty much any object category in the universe. The invention of language makes communication possible and that is generally a good thing..

@richardaberdeen Do you know how many times the word god is mentioned on the book (On the Origin of Species)? One time. Just one time. And he sure isn't crediting god with being behind anything. I sujest you download the book from project guttenberg and actually read it before saying nonsense like that.
nunofmf2 5 months ago
@nunofmf2 You lied about Darwin, just like a whole lot of atheists do. Now you're trying to cover it up by pretending that what Darwin said isn't what Darwin actually meant, which is how atheists habitually try to explain away this very black and white clear statement by Darwin. Atheists pretend they can speak for Darwin, as if Darwin wasn't capable of speaking for himself. Get over it, Darwin doesn't agree with you, neither do Einstein and anyone else with half a brain.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen You should check out Richard Dawkins, he agrees with "Einsteinian Religion" and even gives a brief description. If Darwin referred to himself as agnostic but not entirely couldn't that refer to a similar view of Einstein's? A little less god rather than a little more? That being said you cannot analyze a man's religious beliefs when you are reading things that aren't about religion.
RoHbotic 5 months ago
@RoHbotic Richard Dawkins is an obvious liar. According to Dawkins, the universe "represents nothing but blind pitiless indifference". If this was remotely true, there would be no such people as Isaiah, Jesus, Gandhi, Schewitzer, Rosa Parks or anyone else who gave a damn about someone else. After all, people are part of the universe. Dawkins is a consumate liar who the Greeks would ban from the Academy for life, for comparing God with the spaghetti monster, which is a violation of logic 1-A.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen Ok so since the universe does not represent human traits of compassion pity and empathy its not capable of producing kind people? That just plain silly. The comparison of god and the spaghetti monster is simply to bring to light that just because you can't disprove something doesn't make it true. You back up nothing on how Dawkins is a liar you are simply stating what you think. As violent as these Abrahamic religions are how can you believe that that god is kind?
RoHbotic 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen Have you actually read the book? Can you tell me EXACTLY where in the book Darwin mentions god? Just one simple example? You do realize that anybody can download the book for free and check for themselves, right? I'm not trying to change your opinion on god or Darwin because I know that's impossible, I'm just trying to see how far your are willing to go in your delusion.
nunofmf2 5 months ago
@nunofmf2 Apparently you don't bother to read past posts, where I quoted directly from Darwin's final edition of On the Origin of Species. A "final" edition represents a historical person's lifetime view and as such, it carries far more historical weight than previous editions or, previous quotes from a younger Darwin. If you had actually studied Darwin in any depth and had studied history, you would already know that--people often change their mind, as both Darwin and Einstein did over time.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@nunofmf2 From Darwin in his old age, representing a lifetime conclusion; older age quotes contradict some quotes by a younger Darwin, which is also true of Einstein and every historical person. This is because people often change their mind over time. "There is a grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one". --1876 edition. On the Origin of Species. "I have never been an atheist", 2 yrs before he died.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen telling people they're completely full of shit isn't very Christian like (waves finger back and fourth disappointedly) I also don't think you fully understand the word superstition.
bmancodgta4 5 months ago
@bmancodgta4 A- I am not a Christain and B) superstition is belief not based on evidence. To just pretend there is no God is the worst of all known superstitions. There is no evidence that motion can arise without Primar Cause, that intelligence can arise from non-intelligence, conscious awareness from non-conscious particles or that zillions of parts within parts, processes or universal laws can exist all by themselves. Atheism is a greater superstition than all other superstitions combined.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen The definition YOU gave does not fit with the way you're using it. Atheism isn't belief not based on evidence. It's not belief at all. It's lack of belief in a God. If anything, the word superstition fits much more with belief IN God. There is no real evidence... word of mouth doesn't count. I would still not call belief in God superstitious, but atheism is DEFINITELY not a superstition.
bmancodgta4 5 months ago
you are a fucking idiot.
atheism is the very base lack of belief or faith.
Atheism is based on believing in facts
Now remember that believing has nothing to do with religion.. its like saying because jesus took breaths in the bible it means that we are christians.
mantheman100 5 months ago
@mantheman100 Atheism is the greatest of all known superstitions, having no foundation in evidence. There isn't a shingle shred of evidence supporting a conclusion of "no God". The physical evidence very clearly speaks for the invisible Creator, just like the Bible says. Bullshitter !!!
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen *sighs*
Truthiness231 5 months ago
CONTINUED:
That said, the burden is on any particular theist to prove a deity exists (for, if one does exist, one can get evidence of it's existence (or not, which would suggest either one doesn't exist or is hiding, either way means one shouldn't go around thinking there is one, and it's currently the situation we're all in, thus atheists exist)).
If you want to convert an atheist, you have to show us some sort of proof. Why should we believe Allah exists? Or Jehovah? Or Yahweh? Or whatever?
Truthiness231 5 months ago
@Truthiness231 No, the burden of proof lies with those who go against known evidence. According to all known historical and human behavorial evidence, we are sinners, just like Jesus said. And, according to all known science evidence, motion cannot exist without Primary Cause, nor can intelligence arise from non-intelligence, nor conscious awareness from unconscious particles, nor can any processes called "evolution" or so-called "universal laws" magically exist all by themselves. BULLSHITTER
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen So according to science, motion can't exist without a primary cause, and therefore your imaginary friend is the only answer? You cite science as a reason motion can't exist without a primary cause, and then you abandon science to insert your alternative explanation.
And your proof that your religion is correct is that Jesus said people do bad things?
There are lots of illogical people who at least try to be logical, but you're not even trying.
ninjajesus81 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen ROFL, put down the pipe. The presence of "sin" (ie immoral acts) doesn't prove Thor exists, much less Jebus. You also say "nothing can exist without something else making it" in so many words, which would mean we couldn't exist (because then god would need a cause, and that cause would need a cause, and so on; for us to exist, something had to come from nothing, and something as complex as a deity coming from nothing is fucking stupid).
Look up cosmological evolution btw...
Truthiness231 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen As it is, the burden of proof is always on the person trying to prove something.
Proof for any religion, in general or specific: _____, which is why there are hundreds of thousands of Christianity alone and yet the majority of the world isn't a Christian but rather one of countless other religions.
Also fun to check out: "cargo cults". I have to say their reason for thinking what they think is slightly less crazy than the Christians; at the very least, Americans do exist.
Truthiness231 5 months ago
@Truthiness231 According to Descartes and, according to the known history of science, the burden of proof lies on those contradicting what is self-evident. For example, if Copernicus had just claimed the earth revolved around the sun, without providing any evidence, he would not be in the history books. The burden of proof ALWAYS lies with those contradicting what appears to be true. You are very wrong regarding this, as is clearly demonstrated by the known history of science and reason.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen "The burden of proof ALWAYS lies with those contradicting what appears to be true. "
Just saying that were true, you'd still have burden of proof. There is nothing to suggest there is a deity in general or specific.
Truthiness231 5 months ago
@Truthiness231 No, ALL known evidence demonstrates motion cannot exist without Primary Cause. Those who say there is no God or can be no God, are contradicting ALL known science evidence, pretending that motion can arise on it's own. The same is true regarding universal laws, processes, intellgence, conscious awareness, concepts of morality, good and evil, concepts of God, etc. Atheists are pretending these can exist all by themselves, which is obviously baseless superstiton of the worst kind
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen *curses the 500 character limit*
Prove any of that can't exist without a deity. Morality for certain exists ONLY outside religion, nobody uses biblical morality over their own natural morality or people would be doing all the stupid shit god says to do to one another in it (like killing disobedient children... wtf, god...).
Also, how did god come into existence without a first primary cause? How did you get the most complex thing humans ever imagined as the start of it all?
Truthiness231 5 months ago
@Truthiness231 Morality is obviously based on our shared designed human conscience, just like the Bible says and Jefferson and the modern Francis Collins have pointed out. Similar laws against murder, adultery, theft and false witness, as well as similar and often near identical "golden rules" are diversely spread throughout human civilization, often in non-connected cultures. As Collins said, modern DNA evidence and shared conscience overwhelmingly demonstrates design, not random processes.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen So you think most societies picked murder and rape as being "bad" things because we share a collective conscious?
1) Nowhere in any modern religion is there any proof for your claim. You're starting to sound more like a new-age crystal rubber than a Christian now.
2) I'm pretty sure it's the same for the same reason secular humanists see it as wrong... because what members of what society want murderers running around?
Now then, what about being gay? Is that moral? Why [not]?
Truthiness231 5 months ago
@Truthiness231 Right, like societies just magically all selected the big four rules against murder, adultery, theft and false witness all by themselves, through some magical process of "self-selection". Like, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and similar ideas all just magially self-selected across the board in often entirely non-connected societies. As Francis Collins has repeatedly pointed out, athesits = poorly educated obvious bullshitters.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@Truthiness231 And, you keep pretending that Christianity and God are the same thing. Why don't you stop lying about Jesus and try actually reading what he said? Nobody who has actually read the Bible would compare Jesus to Christianity. If you had actually read the Bible, you would know that according to the Bible, so-called "gay" people and so-called "straight" people are equal before God. One is not less moral than the other, nor is one more moral than the other, "for all have sinned".
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen skepticsannotatedbible(d0t)com/gay/long(d0t)htm
I read it. Did you?
Truthiness231 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen morality comes from evolution, natural selection. What man would be allowed to live in a developing, primal society who rapes, murders and steals? They would be cast out or killed. Other primates do this as well. Your idea that the universe had to come from nothing supposes some very outdated ideas of physics. Unified M-Theory and quantum mechanics through linear time into doubt; there doesn't need to be a beginning.
Idlevice 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen The teaching of the goddamn bible are not moral, not anywhere, not once. Is it moral to be good simply because you're instructed to be good, or for fear of punishment, rather than making a decision to be good? The idea that sins committed by people I will never know can be passed onto me is disgusting. The idea that an all-powerful god decided to redeem us by creating a human son to be tortured and killed to redeem us is unforgivable. Christianity is immoral.
Idlevice 5 months ago
@Idlevice Oh, I see. So loving your neighbor as yourself, doing unto others like you want them to do unto you and, promoting love and peace, rather than violence and war, are not moral. Yeah, right. Oh, and there are liars like Christopher Hitchens who support so-called "just" wars like WWII and yet, criticize God in the Old Testament for going after societies that sacrificed children and engaged in all manner of brutality as bad or worse than Hitler. ATHEISTS = OBVIOUS LIARS.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen Those virtues are not moral if they are held due to fear and servitude.
Idlevice 5 months ago
@Idlevice That's like saying it is immoral for a society to have police, judges and a criminal justice system. What holds crime in check is the fear of getting caught and being punished. When that fear is removed, as it was after the U.S. illegal invasion of Iraq, then all hell breaks loose in a society. According to The London Guardian, more people died from roving criminal gangs and wanton violence in the aftermath than from both military sides combined. Your position is clearly wrong.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen No, the rioters, looters, rapists, vandals and murderers are clearly immoral. They were only obeying those basics laws for fear of repurcussions; that is NOT morality and look at how easily it falls. It is not immoral to have police however if everyone were moral, we would not need police. Obedience is not morality, it's the reasons why we obey that dictate whether we are moral or not.
Idlevice 5 months ago
@Idlevice Morality is what defines what we obey. Societal laws are based on our shared human conscience, as the Bible says, God has written his laws on the hearts of humanity. When we don't obey God's law, that is immoral, but the law itself is not immoral. The fact we can't obey the dictates of our own conscience very clearly demonstrates we are sinners, unable to live up to the dictates of our own conscience, just like the Bible says. Your responses continue to prove Jesus is correct.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen You're absolutely right... IF there is a personal, christian god. There's an infinitesimally small chance of that, though. I view morality as the system by which we determine what is right or wrong; my morality may be very different from yours; what I view as immoral, you may not. I'm not a fan of turning the other cheek, for example. I don't think that is moral. Men can live morally even without repurcussions for immorality; I know I would. Would you?
Idlevice 5 months ago
@Idlevice God is not a "christian god", as you say. God is "I AM", regardless of what you or me or someone else claims about God, God remains the same. Of course without police, parental discipline and what in general terms is called the "fear of God", people would live far different lives, as it is well historically documented that they do.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen Why worship an entity that is unknowable? How can man contemplate the will of such a being? If morality is supernatually granted, then why, as you argue, does it collapse when the man-made systems to enforce and nurture it are taken away?
Idlevice 5 months ago
@Idlevice Anyone can become aware of the grace, mercy, love and peace of God. You can only speak from your own experience. You can't deny the experience of others no matter how hard you try. I am aware of God working in my life every day. I don't have to understand God to be aware of God's love, any more than a child has to fully understand their parent to believe their parent cares. If we ask Jesus to forgive us, God will help us, otherwise Jesus loves you more than you will know.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen I was raised presbyterian. I went to church for most of my life, being bored and occasionally angry until I was about 12. There was a prayer meeting thing and at that point in my life, I knew the grace and power of god as sure as any believer will proclaim. I was wrong, I was delusional and it was all in my head. I've felt more powerful versions of that sensation at rock gigs. I will never take these proclamations as evidence because I know how we can fool ourselves.
Idlevice 5 months ago
@Idlevice Being raised presbyterian doesn't mean anything. The way to know God is through forgiveness, found only in Jesus, not in some religion about Jesus. I don't imagine what happens in me concerning God, get real, I've been around a few blocks.
richardaberdeen 5 months ago
@richardaberdeen I asked for forgiveness and I would bear witness just as stidently as any believer out there. I saw a ghost when I was 3, too. I was mistaken and that is why I will never accept that arguement as evidence because I've been there; I was that person and I was deluded. It's a delusion more powerful than you must realize. people have had the same exact experiences and feelings concerning any number of deities, drugs and entertainment. Can you explain that?
